The River House at Whitestone: Pet Friendly, Secluded Private Beach, w/ Kayaks!

This rustic, beautifully decorated house sits high up in the trees overlooking the Rappahannock River and offers beautiful views whether you're sitting on the wrap around back deck, the benches on the dock, or down on the peaceful and secluded sandy private beach. You can get to the beach by stairs or taking a short stroll down the "nature trail" ravine (which our dogs love).

The interior is open, well-lit and beautifully decorated with artistic touches and inviting spaces. There's an office area, library, a baby grand piano, and a jacuzzi in the primary bedroom... everything you need for a relaxing escape from everyday life.

The house can sleep 12, but only 10 in private bedrooms. There is a queen bed in the loft master bedroom and adjoining master bath, 3 bedrooms on the basement level that leads outside (2 twin beds in one, 2 more twins in another, and a king bed in the third). There is a shared full bath on this floor as well. The main floor has a full bath and pull out couch that sleeps 2. The kitchen and dining room are well stocked and open layout - perfect for large gatherings with lots of food!

There are baby/kid friendly amenities as well like plastic forks, bowls, plates and cups in the kitchen. There are also baby gates, a baby walker on wheels, booster seat, highchair, and a pack n' play.

There are also dog friendly amenities including dog bowls and sheets to cover the couches.

We also have two kayaks, fishing poles, blow up floats, beach chairs, floating beach chairs, a beach umbrella and sand castle making beach toys to share!

** Note: there is no garbage service so we request that you take all garbage/recycling to a local facility (house binder provides multiple options) or we can offer to take it for a fee of $20

The property is tucked away in a peaceful, secluded spot where the only sounds you’ll hear are from nature itself. I especially loved the private beach, it was such a relaxing escape. We spent most of our time fishing off the boat deck, which quickly became our favorite hangout. We did come across a few bugs, but nothing unexpected for the setting. Overall, we had a wonderful time.

This river house is very spacious. It is located on a lush, secluded lot with private beach and private boat deck. We had 9 guests. The open layout is ideal for socializing, and there are plenty of spaces available when you wanted more privacy. The location was a short drive to a beautiful local golf course, to the town of Urbana, and some great restaurants on the water.We rented a pontoon boat and cruised around the river, docking the boat right on the private beach. The owners have had the house in their family for years. They were very responsive to our needs. We plan to book the property again next September.

Very private on the beach!

Very interesting home with a lot of family history. Piano. Guitar. Amazing dining room table. Wonderful upstairs suite with other bedrooms two floors away so lots of privacy. Kitchen looked well stocked although we ate all our meals at a relative’s home. I didn’t cook at all. Beach is lovely!

Kim and gang sounded as if they stayed very busy with boating/kayaking camp while in White Stone. I am glad they enjoyed the house. It is a perfect place for six guests. Kim, we had a new roof put on. The old one was 28 years old and had developed a couple of very small leaks behind the walls. Now that it is replaced I hope the need to air it out won't be necessary again. My bad on the door code. Please come again.

A lovely post-Christmas Stay

The house is lovely and the view of the river is gorgeous - especially the sunsets. There are huge windows looking out into the the trees and the river. There was plenty of space for all 8 of us. The kitchen has everything you would need - even popover pans! The owners were wonderful: when the kitchen faucet broke, they fixed it immediately.The private beach is lovely too - although we couldn't really use it that much given it was December. It would be great to come back in the summer.

Family getaway

The property is very secluded, You feel like the world is behind you. It is peaceful and quiet, The sound of nature will be the only symphony you’ll hear. I love the private beach area. We fished and caught some crab on the boat deck. The house is a bit old but that is where the charm is. There was some bug in the house but that was expected. Overall we had great time.

The Rivah house

Had an awesome time relaxing with family at this beautiful house on the Rapahannock River, and watching the Osprey family on their nest. Also enjoyed spending time playing both guitars & piano. Our host was always available - though we did not lack for anything. We will come back!

Privacy and relaxation!

In love with this home! Cozy, inviting, spacious, and private! The home had so many special touches and accents that made us feel right at home. We gathered in the huge kitchen and cooked all of our meals, enjoyed cocktails on the deck at sunset, and slept late in the comfy bedrooms. Everyone’s favorite was the private beach. We floated, sat in the sand, and fished on all the nice weather days. If you’re looking for a relaxing family get a way this is it!

Amazing. Wonderful. Beautiful. You'll never want to leave...

Becky and her family were just amazing hosts. The property is secluded but minutes from town so you'll really feel like you are on vacation but never far from everything you need. The views are one of a kind... trust me, you will never want to leave. Private beach and dock, spacious interior, and a wonderful kitchen to serve up family cooked meals. The beds are all comfortable and everything is included to make you truly feel like you live there. My 3 kids and I had just the best time. Perfect for any family vacation. 5 stars across the board.

We enjoyed Joey and his three beautiful, intelligent, curious and awesome children tremendously! We could not have had better guests! They seemed to enjoy the house thoroughly, which is important to us. Joey provided a video of the property from above via drone, put it to music and it will be viewable on our VRBO listing soon. They even met us out one evening to play darts. The kids showed interest in a renovation project we have going on down the road, loved our pets and loved the old tractor. We really enjoyed having the four of them and for 5 WEEKS!!!!!!!They are very special people!

Location location location

Cannot beat this location. The private beach was just incredible. We came with two dogs who enjoyed going for a swim each morning. The kids loved hanging out on the beach all day. The hosts were responsive and thoughtful. When we arrived the first night the lights were on and music was gently playing. Thoughtful touches that were very much appreciated. We could not have hoped for a better experience.

Amazing Getaway with on Private Riverfront (Perfect Weather)!

I had a wonderful long weekend at Becky's lovely home along the Rappahannock River. The house is large, comfortable, and obviously well-maintained. It's fully stocked with the necessities, so no need to bring linens and towels. The pictures do not do it justice. The home was just what my pup and I needed to get away from the city for a few days. Becky is a welcoming and gracious host, and made sure we had everything we needed. I would highly recommend this stay, and also hope to visit again.

Mixed Feelings

The location is five Star! The house space is ample. There are numerous items (inside and outside) that need maintenance. I have never rented a home through Vrbo where I needed to take the trash with me. The homeowner was very responsive and willing to work with us. We did enjoy time as a family in the fresh air, on the water, and relaxing.

Nothing short of PERFECT

As a native of White Stone I spent my youth on this beach and roaming through the woods before this home was built. When I saw it was available on VRBO I couldn't have been more excited to stay there. My wife and I were joined by my parents, daughter and her family. The large antique dining table provided the perfect seating for local family and friends to share an early Thanksgiving Feast. Becky was a fantastic host with lots of memories from the area. The evening sunsets over the river are beautiful. Deer and other wildlife take you back to a slower time. We love to cook and kitchen was user friendly it also offered a great conversation area. Sonny and family were extremely delightful. They were so at home at our home because they were tightly connected to the immediate area. They became family almost. I so look forward to seeing them next year. They sent pictures of their Thanksgiving dinner at the long table and used the house as our family has-- to get large groups of friends and family together. I look forward to seeing them again. I fact I just met another family member of theirs in town from CA. He's as wonderful as the rest.

Perfect Family Home

Every year our extended family of 7 find a home away to gather in for Christmas. We have done this for 12 years. This was the best floor layout of all the places we have stayed. The pictures of the kitchen, dining room and living area are perfect. The Master bedroom is up one floor and very spacious. The bathroom had a mildew smell that the owner warned us about when we arrived. We kept the fan going and the windows cracked and that helped. Hope they get that fixed soon. Three bedrooms are downstairs and they share a bathroom. The shower doors need replaced but otherwise all was good. If you need to have casserole dishes for cooking bring them along. Lots of pots and a few pans. We made it work for Christmas dinner with some improvisation. The beach is incredible. We move around every year so we won’t be back but. I would recommend this place. The owner is super sweet and helpful. We were all very pleased.

Your comments regarding the home's lacks or problems are very much appreciated, some discussed and some not, and we are working on solving these issues always, (new roof coming this spring!) When speaking with you after your stay you sounded really satisfied with what our house provided you all for a fabulous family Christmas. That is what we strive for-- incredible family stays there. The house is very special! I saw no signs that 3 dogs had been there. Thank you for being conscientious and making that happen. The house has plenty of room to spread out. My husband and I took the loft queen bedroom. My son, daughter, son in law, and grandson took the basement level. The rustic feel of the house is awesome and the owners left relics from their parents that add a personal touch to the house. Not just a rental!! And the BEACH!! OMG the beach is one of a kind, so much room to yourselves. few things to note… 1. If you sleep in the loft be prepared to wake at 6:30ish every morning. There is a huge skylight right above the bed. 2. The stairs!! Lord help there is a million stair to get to the beach area. And take caution at night as there is no lighting on them. There is a ravine you can walk down to get to the beach, buts it’s better for a side by side, atv, etc. The bathhouse did not work while we were there but they replaced it with a water hose just outside the house to rinse off the sand. 3. You can’t see the beach from the house. The undergrowth is very thick and blocks the view. It is also spreading over onto the steps down to the beach. 4. Take your own pop up tent. The little beach umbrella there just isn’t enough. The kayaks and floating chairs were good. However the storage of these items isn’t (stored in wood area at beach). You will need to clean everything before you use it. Most of the floats available have been destroyed by other renters and just left lying around. 5. There is only 1 tv. But plenty of games. Overall the house is amazing, would return for another visit

We are so excited to share our property with you. It holds some very special memories over the last thirty years including a family wedding, family reunions, and four generations of family gatherings. Our parents (who were also grandparents and great grandparents) bought this land in 1975 and eventually built their dream home for their retirement from jobs in Washington D.C.

Our pets are just as much a part of our family as the humans, and we welcome your families, including the fur babies.

The sunsets here are epic, the house is perfect for family gatherings and the kayaks are for adventuring.

Our family chose White Stone, Virginia to build this house because all of the immediate family and so much of the extended family settled in Virginia. Instead of driving to North Carolina for family vacations, which was becoming increasingly more difficult with more great/grandkids being born, we decided to build something only an hour outside of Richmond where we could enjoy the beach and each other more often.

Our property is unique not just from an architectural standpoint, but also because it is one of very few properties that has its own sandy beach. The house overlooks the water and bridge and the sunsets are just absolutely epic.
