Fantastic location, great for a family.

We were visiting our daughter at school and getting her moved out for the summer. We were looking for a place we could relax in, cook our meals, be near Swat, and be able to jump out to Philly as well as visit family in the area. Russ’s property was ideal. We had room for all, the listing is accurate. We had a little trouble with the WiFi but Russ had it sorted without problem. We’ll definitely return!

Just what we needed.

Great location in a very safe, quiet town center. Easy walk for groceries and takeout. Also very close to walking trails and the SEPTA train. The apartment had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and check in and check out was a breeze. The host was very communicative, and having parking passes was a huge plus

Great spot!

The location of this place is great - right by the train station, shops, and restaurants. Hosts were very welcoming and responsive. Also, great hiking trails near by. Old building with beautiful floors, very clean. Would definitely stay again.

Clean less

Terrible experience we waited two hour to get in, because host wasn’t available at all. The door had two locks and only gave code for one of them. House beds and pillow dirty with hair all over. Dining table very dirty. Try to Communicate with host because I forgot a pair of shoes inside the house and never answered my message. Would not stay here again.

Inhabited when we arrived! Zero response from host

We unlocked the door and the apartment was a complete mess. Reached out to Russell and received no response other than "thanks for staying!". Had to book 2 hotel rooms at the last minute further away from the wedding we were attending. A few days later Russell did say they would refund us, but it's been two weeks - no refund and no correspondence.

I wished I canceled when I started seeing the negative reviews come in. From the start- we asked about the parking pass- none at the place and when contacting the owner he was aware of the problem- said he was going to call to check/maybe an alternative spot and never heard back (this ran a risk of parking ticket which the owner was unconcerned).Other issues- there is a reason there isn’t a great picture of the bathroom with a worn showerNo WiFi- which was in other reviewsFloor was dirtyThe “master bedroom” appears to be a converted room so the “door” doesn’t close to the frame which leaves all the air conditioning outAlso- it says ac- all window units and good luck with themTrash outside of kitchen door was left (3 bags on the fire escape) which left an order (hard to achieve with the amount of air fresheners)Last was the “towels” which were threadbare and dark colors (doesn’t leave a great feeling).We left- attempted to contact the host no response excepted for automatic responses.Deeply disappointing

Charming neighborhood/spacious property

We had a wonderful stay. I grew up in Delco, and was home for a family wedding. Swarthmore is a hidden gem, with a co-op for groceries, coffee shop, bakery, vintage clothing store, restaurants, wine bar, and more, all within a block or two. And the train to Center City is walkable but you can't hear it at all. Our host provided parking passes, which was a blessing at this popular spot. He also is very communioative and helpful. We'd stay again in a heartbeat.

The location in the town center of Swarthmore was excellent for to attend a family reunion nearby. I have successfully used VRBO for vacation rentals in the U.S. and abroad many times. Sadly, this was one of the worst experiences I have had with a VRBO rental. Upon arrival, we discovered a shattered window on the porch and a broken towel rack in bathroom. We immediately reported these issues to the host to be sure he was aware and that we were not at fault. We heard nothing from him during the entirety of our stay (other than clearly automated messages asking how our stay was going and providing check out instructions).More importantly, we also quickly discovered that only one of two promised overnight parking passes was available in the unit. The passes are necessary to avoid parking tickets and possible towing of your vehicles overnight. We also discovered that the WiFi network identified in the check in materials did not exist and the password that was provided did not work on any of the available networks displayed on our devices. This was a particular issue for my daughter and son-in-law who had to work remotely. As a result, they had to work out of the town library and, ultimately, to leave the rental two days early to keep up with work. We reported these issues and asked for assistance from the host repeatedly during our stay by leaving messages on the VRBO site, text messages and voicemails. WE NEVER HEARD BACK ONCE! We also complained to VRBO to no avail.

Firstly the location is great. The rooms provide plenty of space and the building is amazingly accessible to everything in downtown Swarthmore. That said, we had a pretty poor experience with this rental host. The listing states that there are 2 free parking passes that come with this rental. This is a big deal because free overnight parking is hard to come by in this area. When we arrived and checked in, we did not see any parking passes and messaged the host to ask about it. We never heard back about the passes, and we parked in the spots we were told to through the instructions. We received a parking ticket for parking in this spot, and when we messaged the host to let them know they finally replied and said that they did not have the passes at the rental because they were lost in the mail. They offered to pay for our ticket but never did. We also had another issue with the air conditioner in the communal room. It broke after a day and began to leak all over the flooring, so our family spent a decent amount of time drying the rug, cleaning the air conditioner, and going to the hardware store to find the parts necessary to fix it. We notified the host immediately about the issue, but only heard back from him that they would send over extra towels since we had used all of them to dry the leak. No other assistance or compensation was offered. We typically don’t feel the need to write harsh reviews on hosts, but the lack of help and transparency felt important to note.

Double Booked! Disaster!

VRBO verified our reservation (made Feb 2, 2023) as did our host. A half hour before check in our reservation was cancelled by the host! We had travelled 5 hours to Swarthmore & then had no where to stay. There were already other people in the apartment! We attempted to contact the host, left a msg, & were never called back. In fact, the people in the apartment told us they'd had an issue with the parking permit. The host never returned their call & they went to the police station to resolve it. I'd say this host is a mess!!!

Cute little apartment

This apartment was so perfect for me and my two little kids and my aunt and uncle. We were visiting family in the area I grew up in Springfield 3 miles away. It was walkable to so many conveniences, the train is across the street which my uncle took to the city and on to NYC for a few days. The downtown has cafes, wine bars, little toy shop my kids loved, the library and a park within walking distance. The house is plenty big enough, lots of stairs bc it's above shops but it was okay. I wish they had a baby gate available for the top of the stairs but that's just an idea. They had a pack and play, and comfortable beds. I felt a little nervous that the lock code doesn't change between visitors. We stayed for two stays with a break for the weekend in the middle when we went camping and the code didn't change leaving me feeling like anyone could go in that had that code at any time. But I know it's a safe area so I tried not to think too hard on that. The parking was a little difficult. The listing says it has parking but I guess they have own spot that multiple listings in the building share. Parking in the neighborhood was confusing to figure out what is okay overnight. Only issue is that we were charged for extra people we didn't have. The host said they'd send it back but we didn't get it. I'm sure they just forgot. Also the auto message said second time staying gets a 10% discount but we didn't get that either. I think it's an VRBO issue with their website not a host issue however. Overall great trip we hope to stay again!

August wedding

Very nice location and well kept space. To overnight park, there is only 1 parking pass for a vehicle in the 12 hour spots on a nearby road, otherwise you have to overnight park in the 300 block of park avenue because swarthmore has a. I overnight parking rule. Window AC units work really well overnight in each room, but some of the common areas get hot in the august heat and humidity.

Very Comfortable

This was our first experience with Vrbo, and Russell was very accommodating with my questions. The apartment was very clean and comfortable. It’s above shops, so there are stairs, but the apartment has everything you would need, so you won’t find yourself running out to get forgotten things except for food. We will definitely consider staying here again.

I am a lifelong resident of Swarthmore and have a passion to always help to improve the town in anyway possible. From gardening, working with developers, to neighborhood trash walks - I think it is very important to maintain the integrity of my beautiful hometown, and that is my priority!

Being in the housing space we have maintained close relationships with then College and our places are predominantly used for family ties visiting their students, students visiting the school, students abroad, teachers, families in town for College sports, weddings and much more! We love meeting people, and we live help providing the desired spaces some desire!
