Welcome to The Cottage at Chappell Hill. Some places are just places to sleep. This circa-1900 farmhouse is an experience. Known as the Healing House for decades, you'll feel it the moment you arrive. It offers a rare kind of peace - one guests keep coming back for. Relax on the porch above a pond as birds serenade at sunrise, deer prance at dusk, and fireflies light the night. Inside, stained glass, oil paintings, and antiques have stories to tell. Chappell Hill's darling shops and diners are 1/2 mile away, Brenham is 8 miles.

The Space:
The Cottage at Chappell Hill is old-world charm wrapped around modern comfort — the kind of place that reminds you why you love to travel in the first place. The Cottage faces Main Street in the tiny, Hallmark-type town of Chappell Hill (population 300) — tucked away enough to exhale, close enough to everything worth doing. Guests have full private access to the entire 800 SF cottage with 1 king bedroom, 1 bathroom, 1 full kitchen, 1 laundry room, 2 porches, and fenced yard. No shared spaces or hovering owners here. This is the only home on the property.

Historic Charm: Original shiplap walls and wood floors · Victorian sash windows · Gingerbread trim · Cypress shingles · Oil paintings · Pressed tin ceiling · Stained glass front door handcrafted in England · A German "Willkommen" sign welcomes you at the entrance — a nod to the original owner who built this cottage in the final year of the 19th century. German heritage is deeply woven into the fabric of this home and this small town. My German ancestors settled in this county in the 1800s and are buried in Brenham. I love sharing the cottage with others so they can create new memories, experience the beauty, explore the sites, and learn about the local history.

Texas Star Winery is just across the creek behind the cottage — best reached by car.

The cottage is very peaceful and very well appointed. There are two porches, with trees all around, and you can watch the squirrels and listen to the birds. The bed is very comfortable; the amenities are well thought out. Very restful and comfortable place to stay. The hostess is very responsive. Don't miss out on this jewel!

The house is away from town, but it's a fast drive to Navasota or Brenham. We really enjoyed sitting on the front porch and the patio in the evenings. It was perfect for a couple wanting to spend a few days relaxing.

We spent the July 4th weekend at this charming place. It was exceptionally clean and has a very well stocked kitchen. You won’t need to take anything except your food and drinks. The front porch is delightful for drinking your morning coffee. It reminded us of my wife’s grandmother’s front porch. Our dog loved exploring the front yard which is completely fenced. The host was great at communicating with us. A great place to escape for some quiet time or Chapell Hill’s July 4th parade.

Cottage was very clean, with great attention to details. I’ve never stayed anywhere where the owner has thought of just about anything you could possibly need. The bed is comfortable, with incredibly soft sheets. Kitchen is well equipped. Decor is very quaint, and the front porch is very inviting.

Little Yellow House

This house was not so little! Incredible location, right in town, loved the bikes and rode them to breweries and when I woke in the morning I went for a nice bike ride around town - lovely! I highly recommend staying here.

Love this place!

2nd time staying in 4 months. The property is just perfect for our needs and the host is so nice. The refrigerator is a little small but wasn't an issue for us especially with 2 good places to eat right down the road. This is a truly dog-friendly place and our pup enjoyed the fenced in front yard.

The house is wonderful. If you like old houses or antiques you will love this. It is small, so I would not recommend it for more than a couple. We stayed here for our honeymoon and loved the quiet area and that it was not in town but close enough to Brenham for convenience. The house is very clean and well stocked with linens, cooking utensils, basic pantry items. The fosge is small though, so if you want to cook you may need to grocery shop frequently. Loved it so much that my mom and I want to come stay again and go antique shopping.

Well appointed little cottage

This was a terrific little get away spot! It felt like I was a world away from hectic everyday life, but really was just about 30 minutes from my home in Cypress. The rental is well done with lots of little details that helped me feel at home. Check in and check out were super easy! This was a perfect location for me to get away for a day or two.

Perfect for our decompress trip

It's such a charming cottage and was perfect for us to just get away and chill. Very nicely furnished and decorated. The sofa and bed were quite comfy, something u don't always get. Washer/Dryer helped us pack fewer clothes. Owner was great, very communicative, accommodating and helpful with food suggestions. We loved the porch and spent every morning and evening there. Would 100% return.

December Stay

The property was a quaint little cottage that was decorated with an antique feel. Everything was as advertised and when our stay in early November has to be rescheduled due to multiple emergencies, the host quickly responded to my request to reschedule for December. The only issue was the house was a bit drafty during the cold temperatures. I would definitely recommend a friend to stay here.

The perfect weekend!

We loved this cottage in cute & charming Chappell Hill. Our dogs loved the yard and the porch, and we did too. All of the amenities were awesome and the bed was so comfy. We really loved our stay in this very clean and comfy weekend getaway. Shopping and stores in Brenham are close by but far enough to feel like you're in the country - which you are! Being there during bluebonnet season was also a plus. :) We hope to return!

Historic Chappell Hill (population of 300) is known for its historic architecture, rich cultural heritage, the annual Bluebonnet Festival in Spring and Scarecrow Festival in the Fall. Founded in 1847, it's located in Washington County, which is in Stephen F. Austin's original colony. He is known as the "Father of Texas" and played a significant role in the colonization of Texas by bringing the first group of American settlers to the region in 1821. He was appointed by the Mexican government as an empresario (land agent) to bring 300 families to settle in Texas.

Most of the German immigrants who settled in Washington County were primarily farmers and craftsmen. They were attracted to the area by the fertile soil and the promise of land ownership. They brought with them their language, culture, and traditions and established their own communities, churches, and schools that taught in the German language. They also introduced new crops to the area, such as grapes and peaches, which helped to diversify the local agriculture.

The birthplace of Texas is considered to be Washington-on-the-Brazos. It was here that delegates from across Texas met in 1836 to sign the Texas Declaration of Independence, officially declaring Texas as a separate republic from Mexico. This event paved the way for the Texas Revolution, a critical moment in Texas history. There are several historical sites and museums that commemorate this important event in Texas history, including the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site and the Star of the Republic Museum.
