Unfortunately, there was some miscommunication right from the start when we arrived Friday evening. We understood that up to three dogs were allowed and did bring three dogs, but we were unaware we needed to notify the host ahead of time. Upon arrival, we were informed there would be a 30 per day, per dog fee, which led us to drive our dogs 30 minutes away to stay at my grandparents’ property after already arriving. After reviewing the listing details again, the contract appeared to state there was a one-time dog fee, so there seemed to be some misunderstanding. The interaction felt overwhelming immediately upon arrival, especially with the host being present in the attached garage. Throughout the weekend, we also felt we lacked privacy, as the host was around the property frequently, which made the stay feel somewhat micromanaged rather than relaxing. We were in town for my grandfather’s memorial and had hoped for a peaceful weekend, but often felt like we were intruding. The cabin itself was clean and the scenery was beautiful. However, there are areas that could be improved. While we understand it is a family-owned cabin, the large amount of personal family photos throughout the space made it feel more like staying in someone’s private home than a cozy lodge-style rental, especially for the price point.
