Lovely weekend

Wonderful, relaxing house in a lovely spot. As advertised, it's quite remote, but perfect for a laid-back trip with family or friends. Donna was great: very helpful, easy to communicate with and, importantly, stocked the place with some really delicious coffee. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent stay at the Woods

We highly recommend staying at the Woods retreat. Donna is a wonderful host. Property is clean and very comfortable. House is quietly nestled in the woods, surrounded by beautiful forest and old stone walls. We enjoyed grilling and sitting by the fire pit.

Great getaway

This house was obviously built as a labor of love. It felt like a privilege to stay there. Beautiful and unique construction, very nicely done. The property itself is quiet and secluded, with great landscaping and some thoughtful additions like a screened-in gazebo. The owners were responsive and had everything wonderfully set up for us.

Beautiful, relaxing retreat!

The house is beautiful, rustic and very uniquely but beautifully designed and decorated. We loved everything about it. We came for a few days to relax after our wedding in the area and it couldn't have been better for it. It's clear they take wonderful care of this home!!

As good as advertised! Highly recommend.

Stayed July 1-July 4, 2016 My wife and I felt right at home as soon as we stepped into the house. Importantly, the home feels secluded as you make your way down the private drive and then up to the property. Home is nicely equipped with everything you'll need in the kitchen, bath, and bedroom. Donna and Dan obviously put a lot of thought into that. The only miss for us was furniture in the living room, in front of the TV. Though we didn't watch much, it would have been nice to have a decent sofa to sit on while watching the morning news. But possibly that only compelled us to head outdoors sooner, away from the droning telly and into the beautiful nature that surrounds the home. Also, Donna made it clear that she was there should we need anything during our stay. But we didn't, and she let us be – perfection. Thanks again Donna and Dan! We'll be back, highly recommend!

Tranquility at its finest

My husband and I frequently take trips upstate to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The Woods Retreat was perfect! The home was secluded with lots of privacy and trees for miles which is exactly what we were looking for. The layout of the house was well thought out. My favorite was the stone-wall leading to the stairwell. The charming loft is wrapped with tall windows - the scenery was lovely to wake up to. There were candles strategically placed everywhere - just a perfect romantic setting. We spent the days exploring the grounds and night cuddling by the wood-stove. Can't wait to visit again!

beautiful rustic home in the woods

Our family of 3 spent a wonderful week in this woodsy rustic home. The interior is just lovely. All 3 of us indulged in daily baths in the beautiful bathtub and enjoyed falling asleep with the windows open to the sounds of frogs and crickets. Freshly roasted coffee and organic soaps and lotions added to the experience. We enjoyed picking berries, eating ice cream, hiking, and swimming in the local area. The house is definitely in a remote location, so make sure that is what you are looking for. Don't plan on walking down to the corner for a cup of coffee and the morning paper! But if a stylish, comfortable, quiet house in the woods is what you seek, this is the place for you.

A beautiful house. The definition of good design.

Our friends’ getaway weekend at The Woods Retreat was tantalizingly short! We arrived on a cold, snowy night, and could immediately see that creative minds and keen eyes had selected and provided us with every possible amenity. All there was to do was thoroughly relax and indulge ourselves in warmth and comfort. The property was expansive, the views breathtaking. We will definitely book again, and we recommend it to all! BEAUTIFUL. FANTASTIC. ROMANTIC. REMOTE. RELAXING

We grabbed the dogs and split from the city for a quick 3-day breath of fresh air. Over the radio, reports of the great storm of 2015, it was to be big, historic, legendary. Hell, what better place to be snowed-in, we thought. Well, the great snow-storm turned out to be a bust... but the cabin proved to be anything but. The property is secluded and romantic, the house is beautiful - you can see the love and care in the construction, warm wood, and clean stone. Well stocked kitchen, with quality cookware. There's a real feng shui going on. The property surrounding the house is remote... great for hiking around with the hounds. Oh, there are also deer up the kazoo. We will definitely return, and Donna is a very, very cool lady.

Stunning & magical! Even better than the pictures!

I can't say enough wonderful things about this cabin and the hosts, Donna & Dan! My boyfriend and I spent the weekend there and had a wonderful time. The area is beautiful with lots to do and see and tons of activities. But even better is the cabin -- it's beautiful, secluded, well-maintained and has so much attention to detail. It has a warmth and we felt like spending most of our time there - cooking dinner and spending time roaming the property. If you're looking for an escape from the city, a return to nature and a beautiful, comfortable setting to do so, then this is your place! Can't wait to go back.

Romantic, warm, cozy, relaxing, secluded Cabin.

My husband and I (along with our two Boston Terriers Dogs) were seeking a last minute getaway after learning that my Mother was diagnose with Breast Cancer. We were in need of some time away from our busy lives and we were searching for Secluded Location in hopes of gathering our thoughts, strength, relaxation and focus on my Mother's Health once we return back home. Well we certainly achieved our Goal!! We were greeted upon our arrival by Donna, whom welcome us and gave us a walk threw of the entire Cabin. The "Woods Cabin" was the perfect getaway. It is full of windows which allows the warm sun to fill up the cabin with light and warmth during the day. The view from all angles are of everlasting trees and mountains. The stove fireplace at night provides the cozy feeling of relaxation and romance. The beautiful stone wall and high ceilings make the cabin an fabulous open space. The bathroom has huge window which provides great view while laying in the jacuzzi surrounded with candles for relaxation. The loft is a open area with a comfortable Queen size bed with majestic views. No need for curtains nor shades on windows there is noone in sight only deers and nature. The Cabin is well equipped with TV, Cable, Wireless Internet, Fully Stocked Kitchen, Washer, Dryer and very clean. We truly Loved It and can not wait to return back. AWESOME Sunsets and Starlit nights

My husband and I and our 2 dogs felt extremely at home at this serene resort in the Woods. We had everything we needed for a Home away from Home. We loved the place so much, we did most of our cooking there, as everything needed for cooking was available, along with a variety of spices and local coffee beans! The woodburner was perfect for some chilly fall nights. We did have time for drives around the area and a little hiking as well. Our 'boys' were very comfortable there as well. We highly recommend this Retreat! Karen & Val

Lovely weekend in the Woods

My girlfriend and I absolutely loved this cabin. One of the owners was there to greet us and show us around. The place is stocked with all the little things you might need but wouldn't think to bring, lending a homey safe warmth to an already inviting atmosphere. Everything is super clean and the upstairs bathoom in particular was gorgeous. The place is deep in the woods and the wildlife is quite abundant- look out for the tiny frogs, they were our favourite. We would definitely stay here again.

the house is absolutely beautiful- the area serene. I had the place for three months and brought a piano in to do some writing and playing outside of new york city where i live (the acoustics are pretty good if you're curious). The owners were great, only presence came when there was an internet glitch which was quickly fixed. There is a useful list of restaurants and grocery stores, the appliances all worked like new... good all around- was well worth it. -zach

Quiet Retreat

Best kept secret! My boyfriend and I were looking for a quick getaway to disconnect from the hustle and bustle and found the perfect cabin tucked away on 40 acres of wooded land. We enjoyed our time at the cabin- romantic,very quiet and relaxing. We both love the outdoors and loved the fact that we could walk out the doors and hike. Our dog especially enjoyed himself as he was able to run around freely around the property. The house has everything you could possibly need. It has modern appliances and amenties. Dan and Donna were awesome and very accomodating despite our last minute inquiry for their property. We highly recommend this place and plan to be back very soon. Thanks again!

Beautiful hand built retreat.

My girlfriend and I had an amazing time. The house is amazing, better than the pictures. The Interior design is great, its warm, clean and comfortable. We felt like we were in the country side but with out having to give up any degree of comfort in order to that. We are already planing our next visit! Almost don't want to rave about it to much so it does not become to popular... Forgot to mention super friendly owners. Great get away from NYC. Recommended!

Relaxing--Exactly what we needed

I can't believe how perfect this place was! When we decided to rent a place upstate to celebrate my birthday we only had two mandatory criteria: 1. we needed a wood-burning fireplace to sit by and 2. it needed to be as secluded as possible. This home gave us that and so much more! We were thrilled at how truly quiet it was--40 acres meant that the only sound was complete silence occasionally interrupted by a faraway bird chirping. No cars, no sounds from neighbors--just silence. The house itself exceeded out expectations! We spent a considerable amount of time watching the fire and discussing how much of a brilliant design the house really was--the wood and stone make it feel truly rustic, but the open layout keeps it from feeling claustrophobic. And windows on pretty much every facade make for a wonderful view of the woods outside. Every single room was a pleasure to be in, and even the bathroom was roomy and beautiful! So many beautiful rugs and charming cacti plants to be found around the house. I was pleased with the firewood provided, and the kitchen was a great place for many wonderful meals. We didn't leave the house at all really--just to go trek in the surrounding woods on a little overgrown path. This place is a real gem, and the owners are kind, accommodating people. As soon as we left we were just dreaming of coming back soon :) Thanks so much for what was literally the perfect weekend.

I am an artist and graphic designer who grew up in the nearby hamlet of High Falls. I am passionate about my work and I have a deep love of the property I own with my brother Dan. I studied art and illustration at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and as much as I loved living on the Upper West Side while I was in school, I came back upstate every weekend to work at John Novi's Depuy Canal House, staying at my Dad's newly constructed house in the woods. I had the best of both worlds!

My brother Dan and I inherited this property from our father, who designed and built this wonderfully unique retreat. His purpose was to create a secluded, environmentally responsible, sustainable house for his retirement years, (this was in the nineties). Sadly, he was unable to live here on a full time basis, but he enjoyed the blissful seclusion and warm ambiance of his creation for many family celebrations and holiday get togethers.

I have such a close bond to this house and property... once you get to the top of the hill, after traversing the somewhat steep and rather long driveway, you'll see for yourself how truly special it is. If you're looking for peace and quiet,... seclusion without being totally isolated, you will love spending a weekend, a week or even a month at this secluded get away. We do as much as we can to make you feel at home as soon as you walk through the door. The spice cabinet is fully stocked, pots and pans, knives,... you'll find a fully stocked kitchen, and our hope is to anticipate your every need. We even make sure there's cream for your morning coffee.
