As a guest of Sassafras Cabin, you’ll enjoy access to multiple Meramec River areas owned by 4J Vacation Rentals, offering flexibility for swimming, floating, fishing, and relaxing.

• Riverside Pavilion Above Fishing Springs – Covered pavilion with deck overlooking the river, bar area, fireplace, refrigerator, sink with running water, swimming access, shade, and cornhole boards
• Bluff & Sunny Swim / Floating Take-Out – Scenic swimming area that also serves as the designated floating take-out point
✨ Optional River Access
• Private Gravel Bar – Optional access to a 13-acre private river property with ½ mile of Meramec River frontage, ideal for relaxing, swimming, kids playing, and short tubing loops throughout the day
Access to the private gravel bar is available for a per person fee and is not included with the nightly cabin rate.

Floating & Golf Cart Rentals
Floating and tubing options are available through 4J Vacation Rentals (visit our website and click the Floating tab for routes and current rates). Optional golf cart rentals are also available to make getting around easy and fun.
Please note: Gravel bar access and rentals such as floating equipment and golf carts are optional amenities offered separately and are not included in the nightly cabin rate.

Farm-to-Table Dining from Our Family Farm
Guests have the option to order farm-raised meats from our family-owned 4J Cattle Farm, including Wagyu and Angus beef and pasture-raised chicken, delivered directly to the cabin.
Many guests enjoy grilling steaks or preparing farm-fresh meals during their stay.

Great place!

Very Nice Accomodations

The cabin is very nice and clean and the property is secluded with beautiful views of the river. We really enjoyed walking the property, the outdoor jacuzzi tub, and the gas fireplace. Very relaxing trip! I would highly recommend this cabin.

Property was remote and very peaceful. The site was very clean and well maintained. The outdoor furniture was very clean and sturdy and came in handy for the 2 very warm nights we stayed at the Cabin in late February.

Lovely Weekend

The home was clean and just as described. The host responds quickly and the resturants we tried were all wonderful! Steelville has a cute mainstreet with fun shopes to explore also.

Quite and peaceful

We got a little confused on location. Google maps failed us that night but travel and being dark out when we arrived really made it hard to see. Place was quite, beautiful, clean and cozy. We had a very nice stay.

Christmas getaway

My family and I decided on an experience instead of too many presents this year. We definitely had an experience- fishing and hiking on Christmas day, thanks to perfect weather and a beautiful location. The Sassafrass cabin was a comfortable fit and had all we needed. There was even a Christmas tree! We highly recommend this stay.

Perfect Stay!

We loved the Sassafras cabin. It was perfect for our friend float trip weekend. Everything was clean and had all the needed essentials. Close enough to town to visit grocery store and restaurants but also in the country setting. We used Kickin’ K floats for our float trip and it was great to end at the cabin property and not have to drive after a day of fun on the river. We also stayed at the Dogwood cabin which was within walking distance so perfect for our group of 10. Will definitely stay here again.

Beautiful cabin on beautiful property!! We were more than impressed upon entrance of the cabin. It was so quaint so beautiful clean with a beautiful kitchen with every dish you could need. The washer and dryer in the cabin was a life saver while on vacation. The bedrooms were perfect with beautiful views out the windows. If I could have made any changes at all it would only be two things, the shower was too small could barely wash my hair because you can’t get out of the stream of water lol barely turn around in there and second was the BUGS!! Holy cow being in the mountains in mid summer the bugs were horrific. We could not enjoy the hot tub due to excessive bugs outside and 2 out of the 4 guest got spider bites in their sleep and we all got ticks. There were spiders and ticks everywhere inside and out! To be expected in such a rural area. It was still a beautiful place and perfect location to enjoy all the local Missouri spots caves, springs, river.

Wonderful cabin!❤️

Loved this adorable, quaint cabin! Perfect for me, my husband, two teens and our lab! It was clean, cozy, comfortable and had all the items needed in the kitchen to make a meal. You have to drive/walk to river access, but it's only a couple minutes just down the road (two great spots) and it's easy to get in and out. It was secluded enough to feel like you're away from everything, but also close enough to town to run and grab groceries, or other needed items. We met the owners and they were so friendly! We got a little lost at first coming in, so make sure you look for the signs that direct you to Murphy's Place, 4J Vacation Rentals property (Sassafras Cabin). It might be helpful to have exact directions sent once you book the place....since it's situated pretty far back from the road. Such a wonderful get away! We will be back for sure!

Quiet & Cozy

Great place for a relaxing weekend away. The view was beautiful and we enjoyed the hot tub on the cold autumn evenings. I think it would be ideal for 4 people. With 6 (2 were kids), it felt a bit tight and maybe not worth the "additional guest fee".

This idyllic location has been in my family for five generations. Originally purchased by my great-great-grandfather, my great-grandfather was born in the original farmhouse. Then my grandmother, her twin sister, my own mother, and I were all lucky enough and blessed to have grown up cradled within this picturesque and peaceful piece of land.
Excited and inspired to share our love of this land with others, my husband Justin and I started 4J Vacation Rentals in 2020 with two homes— Country Cabin & Hillside— that were each built and lived in by my grandparents and my great-grandmother. In 2021, we purchased the neighboring 16 acres and 4 cabins— Dogwood, Sassafras, Copperstone, and Murphy’s Retreat— that overlook the Meramec River, and our vision of sharing this land was magnified and expanded beyond our wildest dreams.
Additionally, Justin and I also run a nearby cattle farm, and my mom and I have started a non-profit equine therapy practice for those with special needs. Justin and I have two kids who love to run around and explore the surrounding rolling hills and sparkling riverbed, just like I did when I was a kid, and my mom did before me.
This land is a magical place we so enjoy sharing— and seeing guests like you fall in love with it is such a rewarding feeling. Waking up to see the morning sunrise through the mist as it rises off the Meramec River Valley is a truly spiritual experience— one that will effortlessly bring you the serenity and tranquility you crave, and that are so lacking in the world today.
