This was our 5th trip up to Charlevoix for Apple Fest, and by far this house was the best location in terms of walkability to Downtown that we have ever had. We really appreciated this factor since we have two small children. The bedrooms were all a nice large size. The front porch was so beautiful and inviting, as well as the back patio area was very nice and a new grill was included for use at the property.
The house was very spacious and had some little extras that were helpful for us, ie. pac n play, umbrella stroller, children’s books.
John and Jeri we also very accommodating to us requesting an early check- in too! Thank you!
They also left a beautiful welcome arrangement of chocolate bars, local MI wine, and chocolate covered cherries. Very sweet!
However there were some downsides... the full size bed in the middle bedroom was very uncomfortable. My husband jokingly commented, “at one point in the night I woke up and thought about relocating to the floor because I thought it might be more comfortable.”
While we certainly appreciate the charm of an old house (we had one ourselves), the creakiness of the floor upstairs proved
problematic for us with 2 little children being awakened (as well as adults waking to use the restroom in the middle of the night and waking others up). Additionally, I’m not sure that a single door in the house latched properly.
The cleanliness left a little to be desired, baseboard were very dusty and could have benefited greatly from some caulking and a quick paint touch up.
The bathroom situation wasn’t ideal. The upstairs bathroom didn’t have a shower (only bathtub).
I think we mostly found the squeaky floors and bathroom situation cumbersome because of the small children. But just something to consider for families.
