Winter update: Hello everyone! During the winter, weather can be unpredictable in the mountains and roads and the driveway can be difficult for some cars to navigate in snow and ice. We STRONGLY recommend a 4x4 or awd vehicle for bookings during the winter months. If there are major winter storms, you may have to cancel and rebook.

Moonshine Lake is a big unique and beautiful property nestled in the foothills of the massanutten mountains and fronts upon a natural mountain lake. You will have solitude, peace, and incredible star gazing from the field or deck. Relax next to the fire pit or relax in the hammock. The property is located minutes from tubing and kayaking adventures less than 30 minutes from the entrance to Shenandoah National Park, and 20 minutes from luray, with its breweries, dining, and movie theater. The house is a classic cabin with room for up to 10 guests. It has all of the amenities you expect including central hvac, high speed satillite wifi, washer/dryer and a dishwasher.

What I love about this place is sitting on the deck in the morning and watching the deer and rabbits in the front yard, and listening to the song birds. A close second is the stargazing.

Please be aware that you may hear some noises.

Hidden gem!

This was absolutely perfect! A hide away in the mountains with incredible views. The place was what I expected and more! Plenty of room, comfortable beds, clean, and equipped with everything I needed. Close to Walmart and Food Lion and the park! The owner was accommodating and in communication. My only complaint was the dishwasher could have been better. But I had no problem doing the dishes by hand. I will for sure be booking again next year if it’s available!!!

A huge disappointment.

We did not stay. The house was very dirty, the furniture was falling apart, the house in in poor condition overall and very difficult to reach due to very bad roads. The owner messaged the day we arrived to say the place was not cleaned, but it was worse than just not cleaned. Nothing was as advertised…not even the lake. It is a pond with no real access from this house. You can see it, but can only get within 30 feet or so of the water.I have asked for a refund, but will most likely have to contact my lawyer to resolve. We were very disappointed.

The layout of the cabin is great. Very spacious living room dinning room, large deck. Great for a large group. Lots of seating. We had 2 little kids with us and they had tons of room to run around and play. I know it’s a cabin and we were doing a rustic vacation, but it’s a bit run down and unfortunately I’d have to give the cleanliness of the place a far below average rating. Kitchen has all the basics and more, but it particularly needs a heavy cleaning/makeover. We had a great family stay anyway.

Gorgeous location, potentially a nice place to stay.

Check-in was anytime after 4. Our first group arrived to the cabin which was totally dark, inside and outside. No lights illuminated the walkway, stairs, or the door for the entrance. Upon entry switches were triggered that did nothing. No outside light switches were ever found, or worked, in the cabin. I asked about this issue with the owner over email but was told to take "...a lamp outside or buy some table lantern." This location boasted of a bumper pool table, but the table itself was broken in several places. All of the dishes in the cupboard were dirty and/or had a layer of grease on them. The cabin itself only had one smoke detector in only one of the bedrooms. There are stains on the overhead lights in the kitchen due to leaks in the ceiling. The curtains on the windows in the newest bathroom are sheer/white so there is no privacy. Every fan and every vent were covered in a thick layer of dust and grime. The location was excellent. The potential is there, but the overall feeling of the trip was disappointment with how expensive this rental is.
