Very, rustic cabin “barn” in a Costa Rica.
The homeowner, Doris is a lovely, helpful hostess. The gardens and pool are awesome! The flora and fauna, neighbourhood sloth, howler monkeys, many different species of birds and flowers as well as interesting albeit, poisonous green and black dart frogs are an incredible Caribbean side, Costa Rican experience.
It is a short walk to the town: Cahuita is a very laid back town, lots of great restaurants, bars, stores, pharmacy, ATM and bank.
There are beautiful, nearly deserted beaches, Playa Blanca and Playa Negra.
Downsides: there are absolutely, no screens on the windows or doors, so you are at the mercy of mosquitoes, bats etc. On a daily basis we killed off numerous cockroaches! In the evening, if the windows are closed, it is too hot without any air circulation. Termites were also certainly active in this wooden structure.
The house is not like the outdated pictures on the website and is not very well maintained any longer.
There are not 2 full bathrooms: upstairs bathroom “en-suite” has one sink and toilet, but no real privacy door. The bathroom downstairs has a poorly, working shower and a leaky sink. There is a shower out by the pool that works quite efficiently.
The only bedroom/en-suite upstairs which has a double bed, plus a crib type or where a child can sleep. There are no other privacy doors on the other two sleeping areas which also have double beds, but one bed/sleeping area is completely open.
No place inside to hang towels or even clothes and no wine glasses or acrylic glasses to take poolside.
Not an overtly, tranquil area with neighbors playing loud music, dogs barking, roosters crowing, cats meowing/fighting and garden burning at any given time. Being close to highway one can expect to hear the big trucks gearing down too.
Fans for white noise when in proper working condition do come in handy, but the only ceiling fan made too much noise when turned at a decent speed for air.
Earplugs are absolutely, necessary!!
We left for 2 nights to tour Tortugero and then left 5 days earlier than our intended stay.
Overall, in our opinion, we do not recommend this particular place, we investigated others similar prices and one can certainly, find a much better place to “camp” out on in lovely, Cahuita.
