Payson is a town in northern Gila County, Arizona, United States. Due to Payson's location being very near to the geographic center of Arizona, it has been called "The Heart of Arizona". The town is surrounded by the Tonto National Forest and has many outdoor activities and events to enjoy in all seasons.

The Tonto National Forest, encompassing 2,873,200 acres (1,162,700 ha; 11,627 km2), is the largest of the six national forests in Arizona and is the ninth largest national forest in the United States.[1][2] The forest has diverse scenery, with elevations ranging from 1,400 feet (427 m) in the Sonoran Desert to 7,400 feet (2,256 m) in the ponderosa pine forests of the Mogollon Rim (pronounced MOH-gee-on, or MUH-gee-own). The Tonto National Forest is also the most visited "urban" forest in the United States.

As the gateway to Arizona's dramatic high elevation Mountains, Payson offers four-season recreation. It also offers the dramatic seasonal weather as the Northeastern United States but in less dramatic amounts.

Arizonans call it “The Rim.” That’s short for the Mogollon Rim, the rugged, far-reaching landscape of the Colorado Plateau. Cutting across the state, the Rim is a picturesque destination for wilderness adventurers of all ages.

This land, where the Ponderosa Pine forest meets desert canyon country, has exerted a magnetic pull on early Mormon settlers, Western novelist Zane Grey, and actor/rancher John Wayne. Seven sparkling lakes are the centerpiece of scenic mountains, where you can ride horses in the morning and fly-fish in the afternoon. Plan a hike to wonder at Tonto Natural Bridge, believed to be the world’s largest natural travertine bridge. And once the first snow falls, strap on your skis and find a trail for cross-country skiing.

Payson also boasts a lively festival calendar. There’s big-time broncin’ in this small town setting at the World’s Oldest Continuous Rodeo, established in 1884.

Spacious House - Would Stay Here Again!

Well kept spacious house for four people. Host was very communicative and added the nice touch of having waters and snacks when we checked in.

Excellent stay in Payson

This is an excellent property with great central location yet quiet and private. There is good access to the backyard and fire pit area via the side by the garage, just to comment on others who claimed no access. Would definitely stay again. Thanks for a great stay.

Great Location

My stay was great! It’s a very nice and quiet place. Close to Pine and Strawberry along with the local Walmart and gas stations which was nice. The owner is very nice and accommodating and quick with communication. It’s definitely a place to stay!!

Enjoyed the front porch area! Good location! Toiletries provided if needed. Personal point of view …to and pt would have preferred new rolls and not folded from previous guests use. It’s a shared laundry and you need to provide your laundry supplies. Overall ok stay!

Weekend In Payson

The home was beautifully decorated and very cute. I did not know the home had been split and had another unit on the other side of the wall. We did not have access to the backyard but there is a buf front porch and it was great! The location is perfect, right off the main road and so close to lots of things. Quiet neighborhood, great amenities! Would recommend staying here if you are looking for a nice place to stay in the Payson area!

Towels new but had not been washed yet floors dirty counter tops not clean.

Over all it was a great place to stay. Wish it had a fire pit like the site said. And why was the frig outside blocking the path to the back yard? And why the gas line in the middle of the patio not covered? I still would stay here again

The fire pit is located in the back yard and the path to get to it is on the left side of the garage. 2. The gas line was for the back patio outdoor kitchen which is now complete. 😊

A Clean and Convenient Option for Families

We stayed at this VRBO property while attending a nearby wedding and had a positive experience overall. The location was ideal, close to our destination, making travel easy. The home was clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. A thoughtful touch was the snack package provided on arrival, which was much appreciated after a long day of travel.Directions to the property were clear, and the check-in/check-out process was seamless, adding to the convenience.We did face a couple of challenges. First, we didn’t notice the stairs leading to the entrance when booking, which was difficult as my wife was recovering from knee surgery. While not the property’s fault, mobility concerns should be considered. Additionally, while the beds were clean and neatly made, they were softer than we like. Finally, we weren’t aware that a long-term renter lived in the back of the home. It didn’t impact our stay, but knowing beforehand would’ve been nice.Overall, this property was a clean, convenient, and welcoming base for our family gathering. With a few minor adjustments, it could be perfect for many travelers.

Not as advertised!!

Floors were disgusting and sticky animal urine on couches, and guest beds. The property is shared so another family literally lives in the house with a shared access point via the laundry room. No back yard access for your pets. Back porch is visible from the kitchen and it’s a complete and utter eyesore. It was disgusting. Family felt uncomfortable due to close proximity to strangers and all the rules are for their benefit felt like we were guests to their home and we had to keep the noise down. Got a complaint form tenant because we were laughing and trying to enjoy or vacation. Overall not as advertised and it was mostly a miserable and disgusting place to stay. The pictures are a lie.

Although we encourage reviews but would like to respond to such reviews such as this so our future guests have more realistic facts. 1. As all hosts, our goal is to ensure all our guest have a pleasant stay and a memorable/enjoyable experience. However, in cases such as this where the guests make no effort to communicate with the host during their stay, and then randomly leave bias reviews is very privative and immature. 2. Our cleaning staff has a checklist of all the things that they are required to do before and after each booking which includes doing a thorough inspection of the home; taking before and pictures of the premises and ensuring that they are cleaning / sanitizing of the home which includes washing sheets, comforter, towels, couches, dinning chairs, floors, kitchen, bathrooms, patios, floors, bbqs and the list goes on and on. No such urine stains existed. We have picture of the conditions of how the home was provided to Jeremy, his staff and family and no such evidence existed that he described in his review above. 3. Not sure why he had expectations of being able to access everything that is not advertised nor indicated as something that would be included as part of his booking. 4. The town of Payson has a policy of quiet times for all residence after 10pm so we also request the same of our guests so if they are in violation, then its not an unrealistic expectation that someone would say something. lol In summary, guests such as Jeremy, who have unrealistic expectations, do not communicate any potential concerns should they ever happen don't really provide their host the opportunity to assist are just dramatic and immature and they do no real service to themselves, the future guests or the host by winning after the fact and portray an ill intent to do harm to the host's business by what I can only think are fabrication of the truth.
