Beautiful Island Retreat

Our family had a wonderful time. The screen porches, view and breezes are second to none. The home is well appointed and personal. The sunsets are perfect. A great place to unplug, wind down and get back to the basics with your favorite people.

Better than pictured or expected

The Sarasota Island House is a perfect place for families hoping to make memories. The house was immaculate and well provisioned. Everything, including beach towels, sand toys and flotation devices, are provided. The owner even alerted us via text about a fast moving thunderstorm. We enjoyed every aspect of this wonderful home and I recommend it highly. Thank you Stephen and Catherine!

Much Needed Downtime

This house and setting are absolutely amazing. Words not even the pictures do this property justice. My family thoroughly enjoyed the Island setting and the laid-back pace. The house was wonderfully kept and had all the things needed for the week. The property as a whole including the landscape and provided water activity equipment was well keep and provided hours of fun for my family. Will be staying again! The host was spectacular including greeting us and preparing my family for the stay! Thank you again and hope see you next year. The Stevenson

Amazing!

We had an amazing week long stay at this property. The pictures and descriptions do not do justice to how special and magical this place really is. We travelled as a group of three families with kids and teenagers as part of the mix. The kids spent countless hours playing on the zip line and at the beach. The house has everything you could possibly need and more. You can tell that much thought has been put into the layout and decoration of this home. The owner was very communicative and easy to deal with. We made amazing memories and were sad to leave this magical and unique property. Don’t hesitate. Just book!

Wonderful vacation!! Amazing Hosts!!

Wow, what a vacation. Visited Long Boat Key many times but never stayed on an island before. Our host, Steven and his wife, were so amazing on communication. Any questions or problems that you may encounter on the island, Steven already had an answer for us. We could not have asked for a better host. The house was very clean. So many activities (I mean jam packed from morning to night) that our days were filled with fishing, tubing, boating, paddle boarding, boating to restaurants, walking out on the sand bar on low tide and hanging out in the middle of the bay. I want to thank Steven and his wife again for having us (2 families) for an entire week at his wonderful house. It was an adventurous vacation for all of us!!

This property was somehow even more amazing than I imagined. Stephen & Catherine have truly built an incredible home that is the perfect marriage of luxury and adventure. Our stay in their home was during a time of great sentimental significance for my family and we feel extraordinarily fortunate to have spent that time in a setting which felt like a slice of heaven on earth. I’ve stayed at several other properties through VRBO and Stephen was in a different league when it comes to owners/property managers. He is affable, attentive and available. I regret giving 5 stars to any other property bc this one was truly in a league of it’s own. I can’t wait to come back!

Beach House Bliss

It is impossible to do justice to this property and the owners; but I will try. First, this is a beautifully designed and perfectly kept property that served every comfort. The living areas, the bedrooms, the kitchen, the porches, and the property all testified to owners who are meticulous, thoughtful, and humorous. Second, the amenities made things so comfortable, interesting, fun and convenient that it was hard to leave to go elsewhere for entertainment. With a fully functional kitchen, comfortable beds with copper fill pillows, kayaks, paddle boards, a zip wire and a fire pit, there was luxury and fun EVERYWHERE you turned. We never stopped discovering the preparation the owners had made for us our during entire stay. Finally, the owners not only met us on their boat as we drove in with ours, they were ALWAYS available, helpful, and accommodating at any moment even though we stayed over on a national holiday. Their hospitality was overwhelming, and it provided us one of the most memorable beach holidays we've ever had.

Sarasota House = Bliss

Location location location. Sarasota House has the perfect location to experience both serenity, nestled within the foliage, and exploring the surroundings. From a perfect little beach to relax on, the sandbar only a paddle board ride away, delicious restaurants practically across the water, & other great areas to explore, you’re never short on things to do. The house itself has all the amenities you’ll need and honestly the best part was the stellar communication with Steve from start to finish. He provides you with a step by step guide on how to best experience his little slice of paradise. Our 16 year old daughter and her 2 BFs had a blast as well. Not one complaint of “I’m bored!” My husband and I couldn’t agree more that we picked our spot to “escape” our new normal of masks, gloves, & cleaning wipes 10 hours a day. We’re already looking for the next time to hop across Alligator Alley and escape reality for a spell. Thank you to the Ellis Family for allowing us the opportunity to experience your beautiful home.

Nice property, overpriced and very inconvenient

Its a romantic idea, house on an island. Then the reality sets in. If you have a large party, the house has room but everything has to be boated over. Frig is nice but regular size, so with a large party you're making a trip a day for ice. The 70' beach is really about 10' of usable beach. The lease requires that you remove all of your trash when you leave or the owner will keep your security deposit. Master bedrooms are very small and very basic, if you're looking for great amenities or frills then this is definitely not your place. Oh, did I mention the mosquitoes, take along a lot of insect repellent. Overall impression, nice place, but I can get a lot more at the resort in Longboat Key for a lot less money.

As reported by 100% of all other guests, our special Island getaway has consistently met or exceeded expectations. So I would suggest future guests take into consideration the following: In all the years of sharing our island home, we have never had to withhold any money from a security deposit, until this group trashed our home. Their lack of adhesrance to the both the house rules and the specific terms agreed to in the lease agreement and the general lack of respect for our home and distant neighbors was quite upsetting - but their deposit was indeed withheld to cover incurred extra costs, extra manpower and fuel, to manage the mess, alterations and damages we had to deal with. This home is on an island and as such mobilization, transportation and related work to get things done is expensive and time consuming. Two separate days were taken up to get the home back to the way we carefully prepare it for our guests. - We required a crew of 4 people on two separate days to deal with what was left behind for us. - Food waste, half full cups and drink bottles left under and around all of the beds. - The kitchen and living room and kitchen was trashed with waste. We filled up 30 bags of trash and consolidated all waste in large trash bags and loaded the back of the boat and had to haul them to a nearby marina to dispose of all waste left behind for us. - The House was left open and unlocked, lights on and air conditioning was down into the 60's with all windows sweating and wood floors were saturated in several rooms. We dried out the floors and cannot adequately assess the charging damage. - Large pieces of furniture were moved - dragged and scratched the floors - Our tech company spent two hours trouble shooting the sound system and found the speakers had been unplugged. - The oriental rug in the kitchen had sticky substance on it along with a spill of sticky red/purple stuff on deck and nearby furniture. - Additionally - Sunday during their stay at 9:52 PM I received a text from one of my neighbors complaining of noise and blasting music coming from our home; and another from another neighbor Monday morning at 1:25 AM from another neighbor complaining of the same thing...

A Dream Island Vacation

This island home is just perfect. We called it "home" as soon as we woke up to look out over a beautifully manicured beach front "yard" and a back "yard" that is nothing less than an amazing coconut jungle. The sunsets are stunning. The beds are comfy and all rooms well-appointed. The kitchen is well-stocked, and we made some wonderful dinners as if we were at home. We caught all kinds of fish, swam and walked to the sandbars, slept in hammocks, watched dolphins dance around the island, drove our boat minutes to fun restaurants, and fell in love (again) with Jewfish Key. (This was our second time on the island, and it is a jewel.) Not only was the property beautiful and beyond what is shown on the listing, but the owner, Steve, was incredibly warm, inviting, and accommodating. He answered texts immediately. When my flight was cancelled and then horribly delayed, he went out of his way to make the experience as convenient as possible (above and beyond). This property is perfect for everyone--families with teens and/or young kids, and romantic getaways. We are returning next year.

Awesome property, great family fun!

The Island House is deserving of its many accolades. Why travel to the BVI, when you can get the same ambience and experience stateside? The house was perfect for our group (4 adults plus 5 children ages 4-9), and comfortably sleeps 10. Meals were fun and easy, using the full kitchen and large teak dining tables. Each morning we would open the large sliding doors on each side of the home to inviting tropical breezes. The kids would run down to the beach and jump in the owner's kayaks (both child and adult sizes available) and/or the paddleboards. The water is shallow close to the shore, and the kids can safely paddle over to the nearby sandbar to explore and run around. Several swings are available for the smaller kids, as is a small fort. The zip line was a big hit, as was fishing off the dock. Fish caught included snapper, flounder, and sheepshead (nearby Cannons Marina has live bait). The property is clean and well maintained. Having a washer/dryer is always a bonus. Following sunset, a campfire with S'mores is a must! We had our own boat, which allowed for visits to nearby restaurants including Mar Vista (recommended). This is the perfect property for a family vacation!

Simply quintessential!

Our family (including 6 children ages 6 weeks, 1 yr., 2 at 2 yrs. , 4 & 6 yrs. and up to 58 yrs with 3 generations!) spent a very relaxing, fun and safe week over Christmas and our experience was truly quintessential- we do not know how it could be improved upon! The home is absolutely beautiful inside and out, very welcoming, comfortable and well laid out and well equipped for our growing family. The spacious kitchen and family room (truly a great gathering space!) as well as the large dining tables & plenty of teak chairs made for great family mealtime together. The large covered & screened in porches off the gathering room were great for relaxing conversations & play areas for the little ones and watching the sunsets and boats on the water. And the beds & linens were the most comfortable we’ve experienced outside of our own! We rented our boat from Cannons Marine and they were very helpful with everything from boating suggestions to fishing tips and helped us load and unload. From our own private white sand beach (perfect for sand castle building) & clear, clean waters we saw beautiful shells and dolphin every day while swimming and paddle boarding around the island. We also saw two manatees. The birds and wildlife around the island were fun to watch and the sunsets were spectacular. We fished everyday from the dock, out on the sand spit, and from the boat and caught fish every day. The paddleboards, kayaks, and canoe were used everyday and lots of fun making trips around the island. Steve and Catherine have truly created a little glimpse of Heaven here on earth! Perfect home on a perfect location

We had an amazing vacation at this spectacular house on this beautiful Island. We were two Swiss Families and we had an amazing time (4 Adults, 4 Kids). Coming from Switzerland we are not used to drive boats and live on Islands. But thanks to the help and contacts of Steve it was easy to rent a boat and drive to the Island. Even if we have never driven a boat before it was quit easy and we learned to drive to boat quit fast. Though living on the Island was very easy even if you come from a Country without Ocean and without any idea of driving a boat. The house itself is spectacular. This was our third Florida Trip and we always lived in nice houses directly on the beach. But this house is different. It is much better than everything we rented before. It is an amazing place. The balcony, kitchen, bedrooms are very well furnished and equipped with everything you desire. You can feel the love that was put into the house by the owner family. If you had a wish to get the perfect Island House, you want to have this one. There are also many toys for young and old. Standup-Paddle-Boards, Kayaks, Kanus everything is there. During day times you enjoy the beaches and at the evening you watch the stunning sunset. Can't be any better. For shopping you drive to the marina, where you can park your car and go to the next Publix. This was also very easy. Or you go with your boat to one of the many restaurants. There are lots of places that server excellent food. And going out for dinner with a boat is even cooler as going out with your car. Living on an Island really slows you down. You have time for your books, good talks and all the good stuff you can do with your family. We saw dolphins every day, we explored the Island by land and by sea and we did boat trips. It was amazing. We hope to come back one day to this dream location.

Our Christmas Adventure

We usually spend our Christmas in the cold in Chicago. This was a particularly difficult year, so we decided to change it up a bit. We found this fantastic home on jewfish key that was the perfect answer. Stephen and Catherine Ellis have opened their beautiful and perfectly placed home for others to enjoy! It has everything a family could want! Arrival logistics were a bit challenging because it was pouring rain when we arrived, which has to be by boat, but we chose to embrace the adventure! We ubered from the airport to the marina. My in-laws drove in from Cape Coral and parked at the marina for the duration of our stay. The marina was wonderful in assisting us back and forth on days we came in to explore by car. On a tip from a friend, we preordered our provisions from Walmart and had curbside service so we didn’t waste time shopping. We also found Stephen’s recommendations for restaurants and additional small provisions, which we had delivered dockside to our marina for pick up, simple and convenient. Once at the home, we enjoyed grilling fresh seafood, Christmas Eve by the campfire and plenty of seating with large screen television for family Christmas movies. The kids played on the zip line, swing, hammocks and the provided yard sporting equipment. Internet was reliable, which for my husband, is a working "must." Since the weather was mild but not too warm, the kids chose not to swim, but definitely ran around with our dogs on the beach for hours! During low tide, we walked the jewfish sandbar and went shelling. We are runners, so each day we ran the back path and enjoyed the tranquility of being on a private island. We experienced spectacular red/orange sunsets directly from the porch and saw dolphin pods playing mere yards from the private beach in front of the house. We were also lucky to see several manatees during our stay. We found the kitchen to be well stocked with cookware and spices. Bathrooms were stocked and the towels were clean and fresh. The home is well kept and clean. We felt at ease and Stephen was quick to respond with any question we had. Overall we had an excellent experience and would love to return when the weather is warmer to enjoy more water sports!

More amazing than we ever imagined.

We have been planning this trip for over a year. From the moment we booked we have been impressed with the communications of our host, Stephen. He was always accessible and willing to answer any questions we had, and we had quite a few! Once we arrived at the island the attention to detail was everywhere. We were immediately comfortable and able to start enjoying ourselves right away. We had family join us for a few days, including two grandsons. There was never a moment without experiencing something special, lizards, beautiful birds, dolphins, zip lining or evening bonfires. Even after all the family left, and it was just the two of us enjoying this special place, we continued to be in the awe of the environment around us. We were able to relax and enjoy the solitude of the island. Our heart felt thanks to Stephen and Catherine for allowing us to experience their magical happy place!

Exceptional experience

Stephen is a wonderfully accomodating homeowner/renter. My family had some personal issues along with some weather problems and Stephen went above and beyond with exceptional service and kindness. The house is amazing and it is a truly magical location.

Island paradise!

From the initial communication from the owner to the moment we shoved off for the last time, this was the vacation of our dreams. Stephen's home has everything you need for a week of island living. You truly only need to bring food and clothes. From the swing over the water, to the zipline, to the firepit, to the paddleboards/kayaks/canoe, to the fishing, to the massive sandbar there was almost no time to relax and swing in the perfectly placed hammocks! If you are looking for a vacation where you have seemingly unlimited options of things to do, entirely at your control, this is the place for you! And if you need anything at all while on the island, Stephen is quick to answer with assistance. From where things are located in the house, to dining options (via boat), to help docking the boat for the first time for a first time boater!!! Stephen is seemingly always available. A trip our family will never forget.

Island living at its best!

Camp Ellis, JFK Your attention to detail with every part of your house and property made our vacation effortless. Our group of friends were able to connect, relax, eat, exercise, enjoy nature, watch beautiful sunsets and even watched fireworks from a yacht anchored offshore. We had a group of 12 including 7 women that stayed on the island and 5 of the husbands rented a place with separate dock on nearby AMI. During the days, we visited nearby restaurants and spent some time on the adjacent sandbar. There were a few island pups that were friendly and served as unofficial greeters to this amazing island. We will treasure our memories here and remember your gem of a home for years to come!

Amazing getaway

We had an incredible time at the island house for a week with family. There is not one thing I would change about it! It was impeccably clean, beautifully appointed, and we felt like we were a world away from home (which is what we were going for!). Stephen was so helpful and responsive and made sure we had everything we needed. I am very picky about where we stay, and I have to say this exceeded all of my expectations. Our kids loved it so much, too! Nothing quite like having a private beach to yourself! We hope to be back again.

Wonderful Experience

This is truly an amazing property! Our girls found immediate entertainment with the zip line, rope swing, paddle boards, kayaks, shelling and building sand castles. Probably the best stocked rental we’ve ever stayed as we never once thought of something else we needed. Stephen & his wife are running this like a five star resort with their attention to detail and amazing responsiveness. The one issue we had (dishwasher broke) was handled immediately as they raced to get a new dishwasher installed within two days. Keep in mind this is during a pandemic and involves coordinating getting the equipment and help to the island. We were simply blown away. The tranquility and amazing sunsets helped the family connect and make many great memories… We will be coming back!

Amazing island getaway

This was the perfect option for us for a safe getaway during the pandemic. Great views with spectacular sunsets especially from the large screened porch. It was a comfortable, very clean and well appointed house. Stephan was incredibly responsive and did everything he could to make our stay perfect. It is only accessible by boat and we are not boaters but it was easy enough. Realize though that unless you are a very experienced boater there is no leaving the island after dark (which was totally fine for us). However, there are lots of easily accessible dockside restaurants even for novice boaters. Overall it was a really great stay.
