This Lustron home is located in the peaceful neighborhood of Windsor Heights. This all steel ranch has 2 king beds, one bathroom with shower/tub, and a dining room open to the living room. The four seasons porch is surrounded by trees and over a thousand shade plants. Offering so much privacy you’ll forget you’re in the city!! Conveniently located off the interstate near restaurants, grocery stores, shopping, and a 10 minute drive to downtown Des Moines. Complimentary Hulu provided.
The space
Build in 1949 this historic house offers a glimpse back in time. With only around 3,000 total Lustron homes made, it really is a hidden gem. This steel structure still holds strong today and the retro décor gives a unique atmosphere away from the norm.
Guest access
Guests are welcome to the entire house. During the warmer season guests will have access to the backyard along the main path and patio seating area...

Iowa Roadtrip

We had a week packed full of fun visiting several locations in and around Windsor Heights, Iowa. The place was perfect for our sleeping needs.

Interesting and comfortable experience

So interesting to stay in this early Pre-fab, All- metal house. Very clean and had everything we needed, host was attentive and everything worked - thank you!

The house itself had ample room in the bedrooms and living areas, very small kitchen. The house allowed for dogs however the cleanliness of the house was very below standards. We let the host know he apologized, we cleaned up so we could continue our stay. The outdoor space was large however it was super overgrown with weeds, it did get mowed but no weeds were pulled so we didn't sit outside much who wants to look at weeds and the dog got cocaburs every time he went out, it took at least 20 minutes to brush out. I sent a message to the host maybe six times about the issues with the house and how he could rectify them. He did respond each time quickly. We had rain and the sunroom ended up with water in it and we let him know that the house gutters were full. Host did send someone to clean up the water. The split unit ac was stuck on 65 the entire time we were there, we did not notify him as we didn't need anything to happen to it so we just bundled up. This was a unique house in a good area and if the host did take my very very long list of things that needed to be fixed then I would rent the place. I would not rent this place if the backyard and the front yard were not taken care of, the weeds were horrible. The host knows we were not happy and he did Apologize a few times. We did ask for our cleaning deposit back and anything else he thought we were owed for our less than very standard stay, we did get a refund of some money and we appreciated it.

A house with history and character

We loved staying in this home with so much character and mid-century history! It's showing some age, but that is part of its charm. Its very clean and well stocked, comfortable beds, dog friendly and we will come back to stay again in summer, to enjoy what looks like some very pretty landscaping and gardens. The owners were quick to respond when we had a question. All and All A+

Volleyball Tournament Stay

We are volleyball coaches and had a volleyball tournament in downtown Des Moines and needed to bring our dog with us for this trip. We found this VRBO that offered a fenced back yard and had two king beds, which was perfect for me, my spouse and adult daughter. The house is in a great neighborhood, close to downtown and the hotels our team stayed at in Clive. We had a great trip and the house was perfect for us due to location, size and amenities. It was relaxing and comfortable with owners who were responsive and accommodating. Everything was just as described.
