We stayed at the Black Sage Beach House for four days in early September, paying $600 per night. We were a group of three families with six adults and five “children” ranging in age from 16 to 20.
We had a wonderful time at the house, enjoying the lake by canoe, kayak (2) and paddleboard. We also took advantage of the hot tub, back yard area (great for games like bocce), propane fire pit, and the small sandy beach. The house is perfectly situated for easy access to wine-tasting tours (which we did), lake activities (which we did) and hiking (which we also did), as well as numerous other activities that we didn’t get a chance to experience this time.
We had no problems with the property, instructions or payment (damage deposit was refunded promptly). The house is fully stocked with anything you would need, including what seemed like many dozens of beach and bath towels, every cooking implement you could need, a barbecue and a secondary fridge. The clothes washing facilities were brand-new, high capacity, which made it easy for us not to worry about keeping track of whose towel was whose.
While the house came exactly as advertised, there were a few elements that were a little different than we had pictured:
• The main part of the house (3 bedrooms, sleeping 8) is a beautifully, recently-renovated one-storey, manufactured home of 1232 square feet. While not small, it is certainly not large for a three bedroom house sleeping 8.
• The “bunkhouse” appears to be a converted one-car garage. You cannot get to the main house without going outside (e.g., at night to use the bathroom). While this wasn’t an issue for the kids who were sleeping there in the summer, in the winter it would pose more of an inconvenience for a quick trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
It was a wonderful weekend away and a perfect location for a family get together for our 3 generations. We wouldn’t hesitate to book the Black Sage Beach House again and we look forward to coming back next year. It is probably the best stocked (cooking implements, towels, condiments, boats) home we’ve ever rented.
