Summary:
Welcome to The Hideaway on Hazel. Refreshed in May 2025.

Our home is centrally located in Ames and is an easy walk to Jack Trice Stadium, Hilton Coliseum, and Reiman Gardens. Great location for football games, basketball games, and any other events at The Iowa State Center.

The Space:
This home is great for Cyclone fans, parents of ISU students, visiting ISU scholars, and business people.

Our home features:
-Outdoor space with hot tub, fire pit, and fenced-in backyard
-Smart Home Devices: 1G Wi-Fi, Smart TV, Nest Thermostat, and smart speaker
-Fully equipped kitchen
-Completely stocked coffee bar with Ninja Coffee maker. Coffee maker can make a single cup or full pot of coffee
-King bed sleeps 2 people. Queen bed sleeps 2 people. Could fit a 5th person on the sofa.
-Both King and Queen mattresses are memory foam
-Washer and dryer
-Dedicated workspace
-Off-street parking in the driveway

Guests are welcome to use all the living areas of the house and backyard.

Very comfortable and cozy. Host very responsive. Easy entrance to place. Convenient parking for atleast 2 cars. Easy access to ISU. Although only 2 bedrooms and 1 bath, it is spacious and roomy. Perfect for our family of 4 but we had family who live in town come over to visit and had no lack of space. Loved the spacious dining room, great for meals, games, and gatherings. We were excited about the hot tub which was ready for use. The back yard is fully enclosed to let our dog out safely. We highly recommend and will plan to stay here again!

We enjoyed our stay and would definitely rebook. All the accommodation’s were exactly as listed. The yard was perfect for our two dogs! Check in and out was super easy. Location was awesome and the park was close for walking the dogs. Host was available for questions with a quick response.

Perfect for a football weekend. Close to the stadium. Decorated nicely. Directions for the smart features were clear and easy. The place was very clean. Plenty of towels were provided. Hot tub was a nice feature as well! We will definitely come back. Highly recommend!

Quiet, convenient, and clean

Check in was super easy with a code to the door. Kitchen and bathrooms well stocked. We cooked most nights! Very nice and walkable neighborhood. Lovely home, cozy and comfortable.

Perfect place to stay relax recover during the National Senior Games and the hot tub. After running all out in my running competitions was perfect.

Worked great for us

Great location. Nice little cottage. Great back yard. Caution: if you have mobility issues, be aware that you have to go up & down steps to get into the house and back yard. There are also several area rugs. But it eas a winderful stay. Very clean & accommodating.

ISU family getaway

The updated cozy house on Hazel was perfect for visiting our ISU son for his birthday. We loved the modern decor and Iowa State artwork. The beds were comfy and the neighborhood so close to Jack Trice and campus. The backyard fire pit and hot tub was everything we needed for a warm evening chilling without son and his friends. We can’t wait to come back!

Nice but not "Luxury" as shown in title

Listing this property as "Luxury Smart Home" sets certain expectations that simply were not met. The house itself is a basic older home that could use some thoughtful updates, especially the exterior. While the interior was generally clean, there was visible mold in the shower caulking that should be addressed. The bathroom also lacked enough hooks for towels and toiletries, which made things a bit inconvenient. A couple of luggage racks would also have been a helpful addition.The exterior left a lot to be desired. The outdoor area clearly hadn't been prepped for guests—nothing had been wiped down, the table was dirty, leaves were scattered about, and the cushions were blown around. The front steps were in rough shape, giving a poor first impression on arrival.Some small amenities were also lacking. The coffee setup was limited to Folgers pods (luxury?), and there were no bottled waters in the fridge—small touches that can make a big difference in guest experience.Overall, the stay was okay, but the property needs some basic maintenance and a bit more care to meet the standards we've come to expect from other rentals, and certainly to meet a "luxury" standard.

Fantastic location and dog friendly but cleaning needs work

We were in town for a wedding that was on the Iowa State campus. It was a perfect location to have us close to campus and a great place for dogs with a fenced yard and walking trail near by. The size of the place and the location were perfect for our needs. However, we would have like to have seen the place better attended to with cleaning. The kitchen appliances need a good thorough clean, ceiling fans were caked with dust and so was the bathroom counter. It also would have been helpful to have a can opener in the kitchen. We also were only given a half roll of toilet paper, which we discovered when we ran out! If these issues are attended to, I'd rate this place much higher and consider it a great place to stay.

Great little place!

This house was the perfect place for us to stay while we were in town for our kid's hockey tournament. It's super close to Jack Trice and the ISU/Arena. Not far from restaurants/fast food/Target. The house itself is really nice, and we enjoyed the hot tub as well! Some of the dishes were still dirty but nothing we couldn't clean up quick before use! Alexis was great with communicating and was even willing to accommodate us with a later check out if needed depending on our game schedule. We would definitely stay here again!

Nice, Quiet Weekend

My oldest friend and I met to stay here because it's halfway between where we each live. We were looking for a peaceful getaway to catch up. The house was clean, quiet, and well-stocked with everything we needed. The hot tub was a really nice addition. We would definitely stay again!

Fantastic location

This is the perfect location if staying for a game at Iowa State. It was just a short easy walk to the stadium. The owner was responsive great house and beds. My only issue was with the shower. It looked like it got missed in the cleaning process. Other than that our stay was lovely and I would recommend this VRBO.

Great place

Great location in town. The backyard is a huge plus with seating and a hot tub! Wasn’t an issue but a heads up that you will have to log into your google account for the tv to work and be able to use.

Great Location!

We were in town with friends for an ISU football game and had a great stay at this property! The house is very clean, nicely decorated and just a short walk to the stadium! Alexis was so easy to work with, and very accommodating! We will definitely be back!
