Fooled
As you make the drive into Oak Island you are instantly excited. The community is very peaceful and gorgeous. The whole drive in I was looking forward to arriving at our destination. However when we finally made it we pulled into the drive way and the grass was a foot high. That was my first red flag. We then started to make our way up the flight of stairs(luggage in hand) to find that the code provide did not work. Called the support line and she provided a new code promptly. We entered the space to find a semi clean space. At this time we were focused primarily on getting out to the beach. So we dropped bags and headed outside. I open the sliding glass door and immediately noticed several rusty nails sticking up from the deck. So bad that shoes would be minimal protection. That was red flag number two. We hustled out to the beach which also had a very grown up sand dune you had to climb over and navigate. At around 7 we decided to head back in and figure out dinner. Walking back to the house we decided to stop and rinse of at the hose off station at the bottom of the deck only to find that it did not work. The shower nor the water hose worked. Red flag number three. Beds in the house seemed to be original from the 60s. Mold in the shower, dirty carpets and floors, laundry room was disgusting, toilet had pubic hairs in it, windows were so bad you could barely see out them. Horrible experience with vrbo and the associated rental company.
