A Short's Walk is a gorgeous newly remodeled home right on Bass Lake in hip and trendy Elk Rapids! It includes a private sandy lakefront, large lakefront deck, NEW YEAR-ROUND SPA / HOT TUB, 2 kayaks, 2 bikes, a bonfire ring, a 1-car garage, and a gas grill. Plus high-speed Wi-Fi and live streaming television! Gorgeous lakeviews from inside! Grassy yard for kids. Washer and dryer. Also just a short approx. 150 yard walk from the famous Short's Brewery where you can drink and relax!


NEIGHBORHOOD:

The home is just outside of downtown Elk Rapids on Bass Lake. It is very close (approx. 150 yards) from the famous Short's Brewery in Elk Rapids, where you can dine and enjoy Short's famous beers. It's just a short drive (less than 5 minutes) to downtown Elk Rapids, which has a fun collection of shops, restaurants, cafes, and bars. There's also a very nice beach on Lake Michigan at the end of the downtown area.

Outside of Elk Rapids, the cottage is close to the famous Torch Lake, Traverse City, Charlevoix, and Petoskey, all of which provide a myriad of things to do and see.


GUEST ACCESS:

Guests have access to the entire house, including the garage.


PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

(1) HOT TUB: To keep the hot tub clean, smoking of any kind is strictly prohibited while in the hot tub. If the hot tub is left excessively dirty, guests will be charged for draining, cleaning, and refilling the hot tub.

(2) FIREPLACE: Please note that guests are not permitted to use the indoor wood fireplace.

(3) PET POLICY: Up to 2 dogs are permitted at the property. If bringing 1 to 2 dogs, please make certain that they are included on the reservation and that the pet fee is appropriately paid. More than 3 dogs is strictly prohibited and any pets other than dogs are also strictly prohibited.

(4) AIR CONDITIONING: Please note that the property does NOT have air conditioning. As such, it may get warm in the house during the summer if it is warm outside.

(5) NUMBER OF GUESTS: Please note that our pricing is based upon the number of guests, with pricing being higher with each additional guest that is included on the reservation. Please make certain that the correct number of guests is specified on the reservation so that the pricing is correct.

(6) EARLY CHECK-IN: Our policy is to allow early check-in on the day of arrival if the property is available for check-in. We will not know until the day before arrival whether or not the property will be available for early check-in or not. You can check with our local property manager the day before arrival or on your arrival day to see if the property will be available for early check-in or not.

(7) LATE CHECK-OUT: We maintain a very strict and structured cleaning schedule. As such, late check-outs are strictly prohibited.

Very close to lots of things to do, but still felt secluded. We loved the hot tub and the matress was very comfortable to sleep on. We enjoyed our stay.

This was our second visit and we loved it just as much as the first. Beautiful sunrise and sunsets. We also got to see another deer this year on our last morning. Such a beautiful view. Another success fall trip north and staying in this home. We will be back.

Overall the stay was okay. 1 pot and 1 pan with a broken handle and no light over the stove meant no cooking. I didnt bring cookware but wish I did. Kitchen is gloomy 1 light over the countertop that's it. The main shower handle is not good.With that shower you got scalding and freezing for your choice. Other small shower was fine. Overall okay

Check in was so stess-free and communication with the host and owner were both so easy and made it so much nicer. The property is beautiful on the lake, 2 min walk to Short's brewery who has a band playing almost every night and with cornhole and area to play sports or throw a ball, and right in the center of shops, many lakes, Traverse City (30 Min drive), Torch Lake - 15 min drive away, beaches - 5 min walk distance away, breweries, and marinas. We had available to us 2 kayaks, life jackets, bicycles, and a raft right there in the garage as well as the grill we used to cook a couple times!! The hot tub was really nice too. The kitchen is really nice, and everything was right there. It got pretty warm in the house through the day, but we weren't there much since we had things to do every day. The water is also very hard, which was communicated through various reviews as well. There was also poison ivy near the wood line which prevented us from being able to get sticks etc for the fire pit that is also available.

Nice location, beautiful view of Bass Lake. Tabitha, the host/manager was helpful in getting us access to the cottage and answering our questions. The hot tub was cleaned the day after we arrived - vacuumed and balance chemicals, this should have been done prior to our check in. It still had scum marks after the Service Tech left which we had to clean ourselves. The water softener was not working so very hard water with iron buildup in the sinks, commodes, showers & tubs. We're thinking this has not been repaired in awhile and no intention of repairing it while we were there or in the near future. My husband was concerned about no railings around the deck which could prevent a small child or anyone losing their balance and falling possibly causing a serious injury - possible lawsuit. The hot tub was not balanced which caused one side of the jets not to work properly since they were not fully immersed in the water. The bikes and kayaks were nice, overall the cottage was clean and very comfortable. The house faces southeast so no view of the sunset but also no hot afternoon sun. The mornings were beautiful with the sunrise and there were pink skies in the evening from the sunset. Very pretty/ serene setting.

Great location

Should have read the reviews prior to booking. They never mentioned NO AIR CONDITIONING in the details. I have never had a VRBO property without AC. I feel that for this reason alone, the property definitely needs to cost less during the summer months. Next, first impression…. There was a full trash can, along with multiple dirty trash bags in the garage from the previous rentors, along with a door handle that fell off in our hand to the back deck because the handle was not the correct handle for the spindle. This made it so we had no way to lock the back door from the outside. The last first impression was dirty bedsheets on the upstairs bed, iron stains from the well water as well as blood stains, and dirt stains. Tabitha the property manager was accommodating on taking care of the bedsheets buying new sheets for our second day there. Tabitha also let us know that the handle has been an issue, and they can send a maintenance guy out to fix (we didn’t want appointments all week so we opted to let it go). The trash issue, tabitha asked if it was recycling from the previous rentors (I’m not digging through peoples trash to check!) I have NEVER had previous trash left over in any rental property. She offered to come remove some of the trash so we could fit ours in, I feel like this should have been standard practice prior to the new guests arrival. Location was the only positive! No full length mirrors, outdated, lacks curtains/ blinds! Carpeting new, but owner skimped on alot!

Elk Rapids family vacation, 2025

Lake front property was perfect for our family. The children enjoyed the lake and had plenty of room to run and play on the property. Hot tub was an extra bonus. The home also worked well for us with the open kitchen and living area. A wonderful trip was had by all!

Elk Rapids

The location and house were excellent. Bass lake is nice and quiet, good for kayaking! The Loon platform in the lake nearby is fun to watch from the fire pit but don’t get too close in a kayak. The water from the house in the shower and sinks is incredibly hard which was the only complaint we had on our weekend stay.

The house was clean and well equipped. The lake is beautiful, at least from the inside looking out, our weather was a little dicey. 1 full bathroom and 1 with toilet and shower, no sink. Tabitha was great to deal with as needed. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of parking and a great location. Would recommend staying here if you have the opportunity.

A great vacation destination!

From the beautiful view to the comfy beds to the cleanly hot tub, this place is definitely a spot to return to! All appliances work and were clean, check in process was a breeze, and the grounds were gorgeous.
