The Shack was a very spacious vacation rental, inside and out. The premises was clean, had all the necessary kitchen implements to cook, provided all that was needed to wash dishes, copious amounts of kitchen towels, ample space to pack cabinet groceries, appliances all worked, drinking water was excellent, provided all the firewood needed to gather at the fire pit, furnished everything needed to do s’mores, nice grill to cook outdoors, a nice porch fan to circulate the warm air, hot tub was very clean, a lot of towels for the wet moments, and a very serene space to regroup from the daily challenges. My family and I truly relished our stay. The owner was very approachable and accessible. I give our stay and the host 5 stars !

As a family that takes our dogs everywhere this house was perfect. Having a fenced yard for our dogs made the trip so much more relaxing. The sun room was bright and airy and the kitchen was plenty large enough to cook our meals and hang out in as well. We watched movies in the family living room and our boys were able to each have a separate gaming system hooked up in the game room. The walk to the lake was short and there were plenty of lake toys at the house to enjoy, including life jackets and carts to haul our kayak. We definitely recommend this home for everyone looking for a place to stay, but definitely for those who love to travel with their pets. All of the bedrooms had beds big enough for my wife and I as well as our teenage sons. This is definitely a place that I will look to book again in the future.

Relaxing family getaway

We had a great time at the shack. The town was quiet and beautiful and there was plenty to do at the house when we were done enjoying the lake for the day. The home was well equipped with everything we needed and the host was very responsive with anything we needed.

Last minute getaway!

We really enjoyed a last-minute lake getaway that allowed us to bring our furry family members (because we all know how hard it is to find last minute pet care). The house had lots of space so we could spread out when we wanted to, but also had space large enough to accommodate us all together. Our younger boys especially loved the bunk room with bean bags. Fire pit was lovely as well! We rented a boat and enjoyed a day out on the lake - it was nice to be able to dock it at the house for a quick restock of drinks midday. Would stay again!

Very nice home

We had a nice fall stay on the lake. The home and yard are spacious, and the sunroom and deck are nice places to enjoy the views. The fire pit sits above the lake, which can be viewed through the trees. The street is quiet, with only 4-5 homes. Vito's came through with a delivery for us one night!

Family's getaway

The shack is on a great piece of land.. you can either walk or drive to the dock... by then of the week driving will be the preferred method cause of the hill. I've never stayed where the kitchen was barren so be prepared to buy every spice and condiment you might need and a baking sheet. The A/c is definitely different upstairs and the fans in each room helped with the temperature. I did leave an outside broom to clear cobwebs from porches and dock... overall it was another great stay at Lake Anna on our 3rd year back.

Hi Kristin, thank you for choosing the Shack for your Lake Anna vacation. We wish you had reached out during your stay as we have baking sheets, Pyrex baking pans and a full spice rack available to our guests. We do not provide bottled condiments due to health reasons. Thank you for taking care of cobwebs during your stay. The home is in the woods and it’s impossible to keep them off the porches! 😊 We hope that you enjoy the rest of your summer.

Perfect Accommodations

We went to Lake Anna to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We were able to take our boat and enjoy time on the lake even in November. The weather was beautiful and the house was perfect for us. It was beautifully appointed and had everything we needed. The fenced in yard was helpful with the pups. My grandchildren loved the game room and we had plenty of space. The beds were very comfortable which is not always the case when renting. Even though it shows a ramp in the picture it is really not a safe place to put in the boat but there is a public ramp very close by. The location was perfect for us. Thank you for a wonderful and needed getaway. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to Lake Anna.

We are happy that you enjoyed your husband's birthday celebration at the lake! We look forward to hosting you on your next visit to Lake Anna. Thank you for choosing the Shack for your stay and for your kind words about our property. We agree about the ramp- it's more for kayaks or SUPs. It's a short ramp and we recommend the marina at Hunter's Landing which is less than 5 minutes from the house.

Home away from home

Amazing and super clean property that is perfect for 1 large or 2 families. We had 4 boys ranging from 6-14 years of age and everyone had their own space to have fun. The game room was amazing for the kids to disappear to and play. The sunroom is where the adults enjoyed relaxing. Fenced side yard with the hot tub was perfect and was awesome for our dog to run around but be safe. Fire pit on a cold night under the stars was a great experience. Close to fun restaurants that got us out of the house. The 1 thing that caught us off guard is the proximity to the water. It is not directly on the lake. If it was during the summer we might have been a bit upset but since it was the winter a quick walk to the dock for some fishing wasn't bad. Easy drive from NOVA. If you need a getaway book now!

Joie’s place was good for the most part. She was extremely responsive and got into all the details when asked,of exactly what they have and didn’t have and even gave us s’mores, which was a nice touch. She also was very helpful in finding us pontoon boat rental places, and has a book of local restaurants. If you’re looking for a place with four bedrooms and 2.5 baths, it should meet your needs. The biggest issue for me is that the picture implies that there is a beautiful dock and body of water on their property, while it is actually a very short walk across the street, so we didn’t bother using the single kayak. As long as you realize that, the rest is more than adequate. The dishwasher had some issues with a kick plate and the loose bottom rack, along with some slightly wobbly furniture, and bunk bed, both of which Joie quickly said she would look into. Could’ve used a few more creature comforts, like shampoo, and the bathrooms and furniture were very basic. It was clean, but they simply put a package of linens on your bed and you have to make your own bed, which was a turn-off. The grill, Keurig, kitchen equipment and supplies were well maintained. . The hot tub was a nice touch and worked very well. She kept a room with well stocked toys and games, which came in handy, and the property was fairly large and private, but the house is sort of basic. Again, it should adequately meet your needs, and Joie was a pleasure to deal with, and luckily lenient with our arrival time.

Thank you for your feedback Don. You're correct, the dock is across the street- it's a 90 second walk to the lake. We have a video of the walk posted in the listing. We appreciate the feedback on the furniture and have fixed the issues. We also fixed the dishwasher. Feedback like this is greatly appreciated as we are not on property. We are also adding an option for our guests to request that beds be premade. Thanks again for the feedback.

Our family lives in Northern Virginia, and The Shack is rooted in our own cherished traditions. I grew up spending weekends at my grandparents’ beach house on Massachusetts Bay. My husband Mike vacationed at Lake Anna with his family. Those childhood memories shaped our love for the water, and we’re grateful to now share that same experience with our children — and with you.

この宿泊施設のオーナーになった理由

The home is tucked away at the end of a serene, tree-lined cul-de-sac, the neighborhood offers privacy, calm, and filtered lake views. With generous outdoor space and minimal traffic, it’s ideal for families. Best of all, the lake and your covered dock are just a short 90-second stroll away — close enough for convenience, yet far enough to preserve quiet and seclusion.

この宿泊施設の特徴

The Shack stands out because it combines updated comfort, flexible living space, and outdoor amenities — all just steps from the lake.

Inside, the home has been thoughtfully remodeled with modern finishes and refreshed throughout. Filtered lake views from the sunroom create a peaceful backdrop, while two living areas plus a separate den allow everyone to spread out — whether kids are playing games and adults are relaxing, or multiple families are staying together comfortably.

Outside is where the property truly shines. In addition to your covered dock on a deep-water cove, you’ll enjoy a fenced yard, a private hot tub area, a flat lot ideal for yard games, a private basketball court, and a firepit designed for gathering under the stars.

Many lake homes offer one or two of these features — The Shack offers all of them in one private, well-appointed setting.
