This is a fabulous place to stay, particularly for the price. The property was as described, tucked in a private jungle area with a lovely pool and lots of opportunities to see many examples of the amazing, local wildlife up close! The Villa is very spacious, allowing our family of 8, including a 2 YO, to spread out and enjoy the beautiful views. The location is great for easily accessing great beaches, a multitude of excellent restaurants, and the many activities we enjoyed, including scuba diving at Caño Island, Corcovado, Manuel Antonio, a trip to Nauyaca Waterfalls, deep sea fishing, a mangrove tour, and canyoning. Communication with Claire leading up to our stay was thorough and very helpful, making it easy to get to and into the property and plan for the trip. There were a few, minor upkeep items - a screen door lying on the outside deck, sliding screen doors not all closing tightly, for example, and there were also a few issues at the first of our stay - WiFi/Internet didn’t work, electricity went out for several hours and wasn’t sufficient to run appliances and A/C as needed, and having the info up-front on how to resolve the electricity outage would have been better. However, Claire and Bud responded quickly and effectively to resolve those, even coming in-person more than once and regularly checking in to make sure things were working. Overall, we had a comfortable stay and memorable trip!

House is very rundown. It’s unfortunate as other reviews are great and the price is not cheap for this house. House is in need of serious repair. Several amenities listed were not operational and did not work including two out of three showers, one AC unit, the main fridge in the kitchen and the internet. The listing also states distances from several key landmarks that are false/misleading the actual distance in km and time to get to those places are much longer in distance and time. Host was notified of these issues but was not cooperative and would evade or deflect blame.

Beautiful view and incredible wildlife! We were lucky to get to meet our host , Bud and Claire . They are fantastic people and helpful and responsive when little things needed attention. We stayed for 35 days , My husband and myself , We also had family visit for a week . The house was big enough for everyone to enjoy , the location was in one of the nicest areas with complete privacy , but also a quick ride down to restaurants and excursions. We cooked dinner most nights in the well equipped kitchen , We bought fish every night and made healthy and delicious meals. Mornings were spent in the pool with monkeys and toucans and butterfly’s , The amount of wildlife that we were able to see was incredible, We enjoyed everything about this rental . The house had two air conditioner, one in the master downstairs and the other master upstairs, They also provided us with a portable air conditioner if we needed . The house is far enough up to not need it at all . Freddy was a sweet guy who kept the pool cleaned , katte was the housekeeper who came one day before the kids arrived and did a great job cleaning and refreshing the flowers all around the house . So many things to do in the area , We went zip lining with the OSa canopy tour ( not for the faint at heart ) We went fishing and caught fish and they cleaned it up for us , We came home abd had fresh fish sandwiches. We also went horseback riding which was so much fun . Just rent this home , Claire and Bud are incredible people .

Great place for a family stay in Paradise

There are so many adventures and activities to do around the Uvita area. Claire and Bud’s place was the perfect house with a the perfect location to enjoy all Uvita has to offer. While there we enjoyed the pool and deck and were able to see lots of wildlife including sloths, monkeys, toucans, and other amazing animals. Would definitely come back and stay here if in the area.

Great house that is able to accommodate a larger group.Beautiful views and lots of wildlife. The only small bummer was AC was not effective. The house is designed not to have AC and is really well vented. AC didn't work at all in one room and in the other it had minimal effect so we just kept the house open all day as was probably intended.

Breathtaking views

Our stay at Villa Kristina Maria was wonderful. The homes location offers amazing views and is surrounded by jungle. We saw monkeys and toucans daily and even had some coatis visit. Hope to return in the future. Working with the owner was easy.

Fun location for adventurous family w 4x4. Larger home and space than pictures. Plenty of room to spread out. Feels like the home is built into the trees. Great views and wildlife.

Amazing

Our stay at Villa Kristina Maria was absolutely amazing ( the ocean view,the wild life and the lush jungle ) Our family of nine couldn’t have picked a better place to stay for our first trip to Costa Rica.. only about 10 min from the town of Uvita made it easy to get groceries and experience all that the area had to offer , zip line , snorkeling, hiking and the beautiful waterfalls and beaches..The locals were amazing and very helpful.. Will definitely return.

Tropical Paradise

Stayed for three weeks and had a phenomenal time. if you like wildlife just sit out on the deck and enjoy. Toucans,monkeys, butterflies etc. The pool was great and clean. House is very roomy. Beaches unbelievable. Zip lines, waterfalls, Mangrove tour were some of the activities we did.

This was my third stay and the other guest second stay on this property. We come back because we love the privacy and all the wildlife. Just some of the wildlife we saw: great curassows, chachalacas, crested guans, toucans, trogans, a tayra, aracacaries, coatis, and the white faced capuchins, slept in the trees next to the villa each night. The view is spectacular and the whole setting so relaxing. The pool is great for cooling down on hot afternoons and also a focus of entertainment for kids. Driving up the road into the area is part of the adventure too and everyone always watches for animals along the way. Both the casita and the villa, where we stayed, are gorgeous. We will be back!

Extraordinary Stay!

We had an extraordinary stay in June! The house is so much nicer than the photos. We had wonderful views from almost every room of the jungle and ocean! We loved sitting on the porch watching the monkeys swinging through the trees in the evenings, and watching the colorful sunsets at night. We saw lots of toucans and many other little animals around the house often. Claire was very thoughtful as she cared enough to spend time when we asked questions. She gave us many suggestions and lots of helpful information about the area. It requires a 4x4 to drive the dirt road from the main highway to the house. The weather was quite hot when we were there so we were very glad to have the AC. There is an excellent AC in the downstairs bedroom. It was actually working so well that it cooled the entire downstairs area. The upstairs Master has a similar AC which worked great too. There are also plenty of extra fans. Consequently we were all very comfortable there. Uvita is an excellent area to be based in, there was so much to do, and this beautiful house made our trip that much better.

Great views

This is a beautiful house with a great view. Lots of space. The host has a lot of good information and ideas. When told you may want a flashlight it is good advice to take. The neighborhood does on occasion loose power. Which is out of the hosts control. Good news the water works even when the power does not. Unlike, where we come from. Do also be sure to have 4 wheel drive for the driveway. We saw many new animals and insects. The pool was a great way to cool off. We would stay again.

This is the place to stay if you are in Uvita, Costa Rica!! whether 2 people like my son and I or 8, this house is magical. It is in a private gated community so very safe. It is surrounded by a gorgeous lush jungle full of wildlife. We saw white faced monkeys, coatimundis, lizards, tucans and other exotic birds, in addition to hearing the howler monkeys. You have an incredible view of the ocean with a private pool. Much of the main floor is large windows so you always have a view of the jungle and ocean. There is a cabana with a thatched roof with a bar area next to the house and pool. Each bedroom has a deck off of it in addition to the large covered deck going around the main floor. This house is also part of a private beach club with a small restaurant and facilities which is rare for this area. The owner was super informative and helpful. She sent detailed directions, restaurant recommendations and links to activities. she also helped me with advice when I was having tire problems with my rental car. My son said this trip was his favorite spring break and much of it had to do with staying at this house. I hope to come back.

This home encapsulates Costa Rica

Between the forest up against the hill is this gem of a property with pristinely manicured garden - decks off every bedroom to take in the wildlife that is rampant around the house. We had a sloth in the tree next to the pool! The stunning view of the Pacific Ocean and the beautiful parade of clouds on the horizon was a pleasant surprise. Toucans, macaws, green parrots, three kinds of monkeys, just to name a few. Morpho butterflies every single day floating between us on the deck. Two huge frogs claiming the side of the pool at night. This place is paradise. I will come back here often God willing. The owners are super kind and accommodating- you need a 4x4 but the road offered additional sightings and amazing greenery. Not a problem. We enjoyed the private beach and club that ‘comes with the house’. Delicious food and we had the entire beach to ourselves - great swimming. This house has everything you need - view, ambiance, decks everywhere, beautiful pool, stunning garden and all the wildlife right there. You may never want to leave the house. Pura Vida!!

Family Getaway for the Holidays

Villa Kristina Maria was the perfect home for our family/friends to get away for the holidays! It was more beautiful than expected. We had lots of room, never felt crowded with 7 people. Mornings were glorious sitting on the wrap around porch, drinking coffee and being delighted by the toucans, monkeys, parrots and iguanas in the surrounding rain forest. We equally enjoyed the evening sunsets over the ocean from the upper deck. Afternoons were made comfortable with a dip in the pool. We found the driveway to be part of the adventure. Claire, our host provided clear directions on how to get from Uvita to the house, including guidelines on how to navigate the driveway. It only took one run and it was old hat. Claire was a gracious host, albeit from afar, but we knew the caretaker was close if needed. We felt totally safe and secure in the home and thoroughly enjoyed venturing into town and the surrounding areas. We recommend exploring the Whales Tail, Kayaking in the Mangroves, swimming in the local waterfalls, and zip lining with Osa Canopy Tours to name a few. Claire shared lots of ideas on what to do and where to eat and she is friends with the Uvita Information Center and they provided great service and advice. If you are seeking the best of the jungle and ocean, in a tranquil setting and willing to drive 7 minutes up a dirt road to experience it, than VKM is the place to be. BRING binoculars! and sunscreen, and be prepared for dampness. (The ceiling fans gave some relief) There is no air conditioning and we liked it that way, keeping the house open. Pura Vida!

Adventure Seekers

This house is definitely nestled in the middle of paradise with a million view. Very interesting architecture and love the pool. Loved the animals that did finally come in appear to us. Sloth every night in back tree. Kids(18+) loved being able to just walk out the door and explore. The bonus of having a private farm owner hike us to the waterfall and the private beach club is a big plus all provided by homeowner Claire who’s super attentive. However a few things you need to know that isn’t really explained unless you read the details. There is AC only in one room out of four. This house was built to ventilate meaning every room has open to air screens you cannot close. They have fantastic fans. I think it was the timing of us going in June as it rained every day at 97 % humidity and for some reason, no breeze off the Pacific Ocean made it uncomfortable but tolerable. I’m sure in other months it’s probably very comfortable. At the house my Verizon intl plan could not get any cell connectivity. . I had to rely on the Wi-Fi which went offline almost every day due to electricity going out every day just brief 5-10 min, nothing notably long, not uncommon. Easily reset but annoying. You must have a 4 x 4 vehicle to access this property, the road up to the property is one lane and all uphill. Well worth the drive once you get there. It is a 4 Hour Drive from the SJO airport And know that most of the popular excursions are at at least one hour drive from house. Food was fantastic!

Stunning views, amazing house

We are a family of 4 with two small boys aged 2 and 4. We shared Villa Kristina Maria with another family of 4 who have two girls aged 1 and 3. This house was a dream for us. This was our 5th trip to Costa Rica, and our best so far. The house had a lot to do with that, as it is really the kind of place you’d be perfectly happy to never leave. It is really well located, extremely private but close to all the beaches and great restaurants of Ojochal. It’s on a very well-maintained dirt road that is gated and locked – but in no way has the feeling of a housing development. I really love the Craftsman design of this house which is unlike other Costa Rican rentals you’ll find. It’s absolutely stunning. The pool is heavenly – though it appears small in the photos, it was the perfect size for us and we loved that it had a ledge all the way around that our kids could sit on. The porches are lovely and the views are amazing. In particular, the upstairs master suite has just breathtaking views, and the huge windows make laying in bed and looking at the stars a very unique experience. The open plan downstairs was perfect for making dinner and keeping an eye on the kids – there was plenty of room for us all to spread out, and the table was big enough for us all to sit together. We heard howlers every day, had some capuchins visiting by the end of the week, and plenty of toucans. The giant toads are always fun – watch out, they leave dog-size poops by the pool : ) I would stay in this house again in a heartbeat. The only warning I’d offer is that the driveway is extraordinarily steep. Not for the faint of heart and I would recommend an automatic transmission (4x4). Our friend almost rolled down the mountain when she stalled in the middle of the driveway and it was terrifying! But don't let it deter you...this house is totally worth it!

Belle région!

La propriétaire est fort sympathique et répond rapidement à tous les courriels et appels téléphoniques. Elle se préoccupe constamment du bien-être de ses locataires. Nous avons fait un magnifique voyage, la maison est bien située pour découvrir cette région du Costa Rica et choisir des activités variées. Elle offre beaucoup d’espace, chacun y trouve son intimité tout en vivant facilement en groupe. Toucans et singes viennent régulièrement se montrer la binette. Donc, bon choix de location, malgré le fait que la propriété ait besoin d’un peu d’amour: fonctionnement des ventilateurs, réfrigérateur, luminosité le soir et portes/fenêtres moustiquaires.

Tree Top Experience in the Jungle

We had a most adventuresome time during our stay. We were visited by a variety of animals and enjoyed the rain that came in the late afternoon/ evenings. Claire & Bud were most gracious and helpful hosts. There was more detail than we could process, but it was all very appreciated. The food recommendations were incredible and we didn't have 1 bad meal while we were here. We loved the authentic meal we had after visiting the waterfall with Marvin. Milady is a wonderful cook. The people, the wildlife and the food, along with all the wonderful views made our time here very memorable.

Living in southern California, our family has always enjoyed outdoor activities at the Beach, swimming, surfing, snorkeling, Nature, and hiking. Our interests then were a perfect fit to purchase a home at the beach in Costa Rica on the Osa Peninsula. Our favorite beaches near Villa Kristina Maria are Playa Ballena, Playa Ventanas, and Playa Hermosa.

We fell in love with the spectacular views and surroundings of the Rainforest gorgeous scenery and natural wildlife in this secluded gated community in the Uvita area in the Southwest Pacific region of Costa Rica. The Costa Rican people are very warm and friendly, and made us feel welcome.

This private wildlife reserve where Villa Kristina Maria is located offers an abundance of wildlife day and night. Being surrounded by Nature is a peaceful and renewing experience.

The home was designed by our friends Steve and Kathy and constructed by Ecomaderas, a local Tico contractor. We are thrilled with the way the home blends so seamlessly into the Rain forest.

We have a property manager who lives in a home nearby and can assist you during your stay with questions, home maintenance, and regular pool cleaning.

Relax during the daytime and fall asleep at night to the mesmorizing sounds of the jungle. Awaken to the distinct loud voices of Howler monkeys as they traverse through the jungle, and the squawking of green parrots flying overhead. Often you can hear the waves crashing on the beach.

Included in the vacation rental is access to our private Beach Club. The Beach Club has a nice restaurant and bar, swimming pool, shower, and restroom facilities with private access to the beach in Marina Ballena National Park. It is a beautiful tropical beach with views of Tres Hermanas rocks and Isla de Cano. The ocean water temperature is a warm 80-85 degrees year-round. Monkeys and scarlet macaws are often sighted in the trees surrounding the beach.

Villa Kristina Maria is located in the Uvita area in a private, gated, and protected wildlife reserve. It is an ideal setting for viewing the flora and fauna of more than 100 acres of primary and secondary Rainforest, streams, waterfalls, and hiking trails.
