My parents, David and Carla Shaffer built the Montana Homestead in the spring of 1977. Providing a home for their eleven children, they had a large garden, raised cows, goats, pigs and even pastured horses for the neighbors. David was a local teacher of mathematics at the junior high, high school and community college. Carla was a stay at home mom and housewife, teaching her children the responsibilities of being hard workers, good work ethic and overall a good citizen in the community. David is now retired and Carla passed away April 2019.
To keep the Homestead is the family, David sold the house to his daughter, Kathryn Price, a life long resident of Columbia Falls. Together with her husband, Darin and their four children they are continuing the family tradition of bringing families together in a comfortable environment while enjoying the many activities that NW Montana has to offer. Renovations have begun to modernize the Homestead without losing its rustic appeal. A large barn is planned for the near future to also host events on site to include family reunions, scrapbook retreats and weddings.
