My wife and I lived in New Orleans for a few years while attending school, although that was in the early-mid '70s. We had returned briefly on a couple of occasions ten years ago, and decided to make an extended visit this past Spring. We located Yancey's property on-line, and were intrigued by the description, photos and location. Based on those, it appeared to be an ideal place from which to enjoy the unique beauty and ambience of the city.
We were not disappointed. Yancey has a lovely home in the Garden District; the unit itself is located at the rear of the house, with a bricked walkway, private entrance and patio area secluded from the street. Hardwood flooring runs throughout the kitchen, utility area, living room and bedroom, with a modern, tiled floor in the large bathroom; classic high ceilings with fans. The rooms are spacious and the kitchen is fully appointed with everything needed (complimentary starter coffee and wine a thoughtful addition). We stayed two months and, during that time, did not lack for any necessary pot, pan, dish or utensil. Similarly, a generous quantity of paper products, towels, linens, bath soap, laundry detergent, etc. was provided.
The apartment is airy, bright and nicely decorated; the furnishings are comfortable. As important as everything else, the unit is clean.
Though the apartment is located as part of her house, Yancey assures a sense of privacy and solitude for her guests. She is a great host: helpful with suggestions, and informative regarding stores, restaurants, pop-up entertainment (an impromptu neighborhood piano concert), and other matters. We completely enjoyed our stay.
