We hand-built the Sparrows Nest specifically to be a vacation getaway property, thinking of everything we can to make your visit memorable. Large bathrooms and bedrooms, luxurious knotty pine living and dining rooms, with our spacious kitchen, hand-made shelves and stainless appliances will greet you. Our wraparound deck invites you to stay outdoors and rest. The Nest was designed to be pet-friendly! Come give us a try. You will want to return ASAP.

One of the most welcoming VRBOs I’ve ever stayed in. Our family was thrilled with the numerous amenities and well decorated spaces. Needed for nothing!!! Atmosphere, cleanliness, location, attentiveness of owner for our needs, utensils, dish/glassware aplenty and just the all around niceties of the property were great!Watching the birds was fun, Jack our cat enjoyed watching as well.Only able to stay (2) nights, would have liked to stay longer., You can’t go wrong here.

The house was very clean, nicely decorated without being cluttered, and it wasn't stocked with garage sale leftovers. We have rented houses from Austin to Marco Island to Hilton Head, and this was one of our favorites.We will be back.

This was by far one of the Best VRBO's that I have stayed in. Great location, very private.You walk in the door and your are greeted with a wonderful dining room/kitchen and living room. The kitchen has everything we needed and more. Snacks, coffee, wine - Absolutely a wonderful surprise and to no surprise the bedrooms and bathroom were also fantastic. This place was very clean and offered a home away from home vibe. We brought our dog and they had accommodations for him as well.To sum it up WONDERFUL!

Had an out of State family wedding to attend in the area there and didn't want the typical hotel stay. Went out on a limb and secured our first ever Vrbo. Everything was just perfect. Very clean with attention to everything you'd possibly need. Felt like a home away from home. Had the pleasure of meeting the host(s) JD and his Wife Karen. Extremely gracious and easy going. Just good people. Definitely my place to stay if / when I come back to revisit.

Had more than one would need! Such nice kitcen and dinnerware. Snacks, waters, stocked coffee options and a nice surprise treat left for us. Bedding was so soft. Literally the best hosts and place we have stayed at and we have been all over the country! We can't say enough good things!

A plus as always

We love the Sparrows Nest and keep coming back because the place is awesome and the host is super. I can't say enough great thing about both. Enjoyed it so much. Squirrels and local wildlife will pay you a visit and hang out with you. Good fun.

Girls Weekend 2025

This was the best VRBO rental we have experienced. The space is even nicer than the pictures portray. The hosts left us wanting for nothing. The attention to detail was impeccable, with lots of small treats and surprises that made us feel so special. We had unexpected entertainment by the wildlife visiting the birdfeeders that left us both amused and in awe of nature. We 110% recommend and hope to visit again. Thank you Karen and JD!

JD Gandee grew up in Clendenin, about 18 miles away from the Sparrows Nest. After living in several different states, he came home with wife Karen. Karen Gandee spent most of her life in Southern Florida. The first time she visited Wild, Wonderful, West Virginia, she was in love (not only with her husband)! We have now lived in WV since 2012. It is our forever home. We built the Sparrows Nest near our home for two basic reasons: One is so that our children and their families, who live in MD, can come and visit the grandparents whenever they want to, and they have a wonderful, roomy, comfortable place to stay. Second is our desire to share the beautiful and amazing West Virginia with as many folks as possible. We are proud of our state. It truly is Almost Heaven.

The neighborhood is quiet. The Nest is at the end of the street, so there is no through traffic at all. The view is really great from the huge deck. There has been no crime reported on Credemont, the hill here, for anyone's remembrance. It's a great place to live, and a great place to come and relax. Relax around the fire pit (we supply the wood and kindling), and roast a hot dog or make some S'mores. Bring your dog and take a leisurely walk or have a game of fetch in our large yard (the only true flat plat on the entire hill).

There are several reasons to stay at the Sparrows Nest. First, you have great hosts who have never hosted before, but are very eager to please! We have custom built this beautiful home with you in mind. The rooms are spacious, not cramped. The towels, bedding, and toilet paper are soft. You will dig your toes into the amazing bathroom rugs. I (JD) built much of the Sparrows Nest with my own two hands, and Karen did all of the designing from paint colors to rugs, dishes, and placement of furniture. You will feel this when you recline in the leather sofa, throw a blanket over you, and doze off to the huge Smart TV. You will see the sun stream through the trees and into each room. Sunrises and Sunsets are equally striking on opposite hillsides. Relax, rest, and recharge. The nest is a wonderful place to roost. Welcome.
