Cozy Lakefront Property on Big Lake with Private Wharf

In 1948, Norman & Elsie Beadle closed a deal with the Hebert family on a small patch of land in the Hebert Summer Place subdivision south of Lake Charles, LA. They built a one-room camp named ItSuitsUs that withstood Hurricane Audrey (although it floated off the foundation blocks and swung around tethered by the power line) for fishing and duck hunting. In the 1980’s, the one room camp passed to my father & mother. Following the near destruction of the camp by Hurricane Rita in 2005, the camp was passed on to myself and my wife, Marci. We built the new camp up from a bare lot with our own hands and the help of family and anyone we could tempt out to the site with Marci’s home cooking and the adventure of continuing the legacy of ItSuitsUs.

In 2007 Marci and I rechristened the camp ItSuitsUs II and opened it to our family and friends for a traditional Fourth of July celebration. Now in 2024, we want to share the camp in its 75th year with your family.

ItSuitsUs II has been recently updated following the ravages of Hurricane Laura - new floors, new siding, fresh paint, and lovely kitchen counters. She is all dolled up for you!

We absolutely love this camp! This is our second stay in the last few months and we had another great trip. The host is one of a kind. Fishing and crabbing is good. Not too far away from everything but very peaceful. We are already talking about our next stay.

I absolutely love this house and we'll definitely be back. It feels like visiting family. Great location, beautiful views, and the dock it perfect for long days. The house has lots of charm and is well stocked. We caught several speckled trout and reds. Can't wait until our next visit.

This Lake House was awesome and the host was a pleasure to work with. Mrs. Marci answered all of our questions and made sure their home felt like a true weekend home for us. I was able to spend my 40th birthday there and we had a blast crabbing and fishing the entire weekend. We enjoyed the sunset as well which pictures just doesn’t do it justice. The host and house exceeded our expectations by a long shot and I will definitely be booking with them again in the future.

This was the perfect place for fishermen and family with grandkids and even dogs to come and enjoy time together. It was ideal to be close to marina to launch boat and keep boats tied on the pier. The pier fishing was great, we caught flounder, redfish, and sheep head. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything to cook with, and everything was so clean. Plenty of games to keep everyone busy. The view from back porch overlooking the water was absolutely beautiful with coffee in the morning and margaritas at night. We were there during the week so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The stairs are steep for us 70 year olds but all the safety features are there and it was our exercise. We will definitely rent this place again. The host was available each time I messaged her, during the planning phase, after I booked it and when we arrived. I did not need to contact her at all during the stay because she had given good instructions. And ice machine was a definite plus.

Amazing Place, Best Location!

This was our second stay, and once again, it did not disappoint! The house is in the perfect location for Lake Calcasieu, making it our go-to rental. Very nice camp on Big Lake

35 yrs ago we had a camp at Herbert’s. After we moved it was destroyed by Hurricane. It was so nice to be back on Big Lake. Very nice cabin in great location. Great family spot. Thoroughly enjoyed. Very well kept and spotless!

Amazing host and location!

We would Definetly recommend staying here to anyone. We had a great time and greatly enjoyed our stay! Great location and property

This property is really top notch. It is obvious that this is the owner’s private retreat and not a barebones property only for rentals. If you want to fish this area and have great accommodations, then this is a very solid choice.
