Spacious Apartment with Gorgeous Garden in the Heart of a Tuscan Town
Il Giardino, (the Garden Apartment), right in the centre of the historic town of Lucignano, is a beautifully restored apartment in a converted Frantoio, an olive mill that dates back 400 years. The main floor is at street level including the kitchen, living room, bathroom, laundry room and dining room. There is one flight of stairs down to the bedroom and a few steps down from there to the outdoor garden. This charming private garden is perfect for the afternoon aperitivo. The spacious apartment is fully self-contained and private. Incorporating beautiful, antique Tuscan pieces, yet including all the things one wants to be modern, Il Giardino provides the perfect location from which to explore the rest of Tuscany.
The town of Lucignano is a beautifully conserved medieval walled hill-top village. Its location between Siena and Florence meant that between 1200 and 1500, the town was constantly the subject of battles between these cities. As a result, huge, towering walls with three main entrance gates, that remain intact today, were constructed by the Sienese in 1371. Once Lucignano came under the rule of Florence, construction of the main fortress began.
As a visitor to Lucignano, you will find it perfectly located as an introduction to Italy’s famed ‘dolce vita’. The area around Lucignano truly does have it all! There’s an overabundance of things to do and see, because this part of Tuscany has been value-adding since Etruscan times. Renaissance paintings and Gothic Cathedrals, spectacular walks and cycling, sensational slow food, hills laden with vines and ancient olive groves. Sienna, Montepulciano, Cortona, Florence, Assisi, or Arezzo are a short drive away. After a day of climbing the cobbled streets of surrounding hillside villages, relax in the garden with a glass of Vino Nobile while taking in the views over the Valdichiana countryside.
