Candice Thank you for the review of our cottage, I'm sorry that your experience was not what you were hoping for. We do ask that all guests provide us with any issues upon entering the cottage so we can have every opportunity to rectify the problem. Unfortunately, it wasn’t until after your stay that you’ve made mention of the condition. You are the first guest to mention the cottage was not clean upon your arrival. In fact, our previous and returning guests mention how clean the cottage is. Either myself or my cleaner checks between each renter to ensure it is clean for the next guests. My cleaner confirmed the cottage was cleaned on Thursday, Aug 31 prior to your arrival. I'm sorry that you were taken off guard by the $125 cleaning fee, however, we do stipulate in our terms and conditions, in our welcome binder and my email which contains the directions a cleaning fee would apply should the cottage not be cleaned according to the cleaning list. Unfortunately, it was evident minimal effort was spent by your group in cleaning the cottage prior to your departure. Upon entry of the cottage there was an odd odour, almost skunky, that immediately indicated to me no cleaning products were used. Crumbs were on the floor and counter tops, bbq sauce spattered on the wall, microwave and on the outside of the BBQ. Fingerprints, and sauce on fridge, stove and patio doors. All flooring and carpets needed to be vacuumed and mopped. The duvet cover in the master bedroom was damp, as well as a couch pillow. There was absolutely no attempt to clean the bathrooms, sinks had soap scum and hair, the toilets were spattered with feces. Had it just been a few minor touch-ups, a cleaning fee would not have applied. The photos of the bathrooms that I provided to you, is a clear indication that I was more than fair in only charging $125 cleaning fee. As for the cottage being out of date, we do indicate in the description the interior is decorated with a mixture of old and new, but keeping with a Muskoka feel. The kitchen has been updated with stainless steel appliances and dishwasher. As well both bathrooms have been updated, with the upstairs having double sink vanity and 2 man glassed-in shower. Many of our guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, updated bathrooms and current décor.
