My wife and I and out dog spent 6 nights here in early May. It was a late spring, so the lake was iced over when we arrived and open when we left--watching the ice go out was very interesting. Two other couples joined us for a couple nights and they also gave it highest ratings.
The great room is large and bright. With seating, dining and kitchen all one large space there was plenty of room to spread out. The deck shares the same great view and is big enough for a large party to enjoy. The kitchen is well outfitted with all the pots, pans, utensils, and other kitchen tools needed.
The bedrooms were cozy, but everything necessary for comfort. The beds were very comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. The only possible shortcoming is with a single bathroom there could be long waits if people aren't efficient in their habits.
The property has a lot of open space and walks to the beach or along the entry road are pleasant, although we were there before the bugs showed up. The high location catches breezes from most directions and should keep the bugs low at least during the day. Can't say much about beach or water recreation, since as I mentioned in the beginning, the lake was going through ice out.
The trip into Grand Marais is about 35 minutes and the roads are easy to travel, although the last mile to the cabin is a bit rough, any car but a low rider can handle it. 3G cell coverage is reliable from Canada, and minimal 4G US coverage can usually be found just a few minutes walk or 90 second drive away.
In summary, a clean, comfortable, spacious and well equipped remote cabin--the best we've stayed at.
