Welcome to Walter & Mae’s Farmhouse, where charm and mountain views meet family history. You’ll find vintage touches, Mae’s own artwork on the walls, and her wood-burning cookstove that once filled the kitchen with warmth — all part of the quiet, authentic spirit of this Tennessee farmhouse. The rolling fields where Walter once pastured cattle still sustain a healthy herd today, and the land remains as peaceful and enduring as the mountains around it.

While visiting this century-old dwelling nine miles from Elizabethton, you’ll be surrounded by dazzling mountain vistas and open pastureland. This delightful two-bedroom, two-bathroom property affords spacious accommodations that include a well-equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning.

Not far from this serene setting you’ll find boundless opportunities for recreation and sightseeing. Restaurants and grocery stores are just minutes away.

Take a short walk up a quiet country road and you’ll enter the Cherokee National Forest and the Holston Mountain trail system. Drive a few miles up State Route 91 to visit the spectacular Blue Hole Falls, and continue a bit farther to reach the famed Appalachian Trail.

If fishing is your passion, cast a line in the nearby Watauga River — a championship trout stream — or at Watauga Lake, home to 13 species of game fish. If NASCAR racing pumps your adrenaline, the world-famous Bristol Motor Speedway is only a half hour away.

If history stirs your curiosity, explore Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park or the Tipton-Haynes State Historic Site. You can even delve into prehistory with a visit to the Gray Fossil Site.

We had a great time staying here. We were on vacation for our anniversary and it reminded us of our first home that we rented as we started out. The host try hard to think of anything you might need. We enjoyed the location just out of town enough but close enough to get to places. Great mom and pop places to eat.

Its a beautiful farmhouse, large open kitchen and outside the back door within 20 feet were rolling fields with cows and goats. We needed peace and quiet and found it at the farmhouse. You can sit on front porch and rock, read ir sew. We loved it and I was inspired by their farmhouse decor. Will be going back to see them again if available.

The house is adorable, clean and spacious. The surroundings are gorgeous with the Mountain View’s, the rolling fields, cows, goat and rooster crowing in the morning. Conveniently located with nature or shopping in either direction. Will definitely visit again!

We loved Walter and Mae's Farmhouse. Pat was very communicative, check-in and check-out were super easy. The home was beautifully decorated, and while we didn't have a chance to use the kitchen, it was very well stocked. The location was convenient to Bristol, Johnson City and Kingsport, and very relaxing. I really enjoyed sitting on the front porching watching the cows. Next time I travel to that area, I will definitely stay again. Thank you Pat for sharing your small piece of paradise with us.

Thank you for sharing this amazing farmhouse and its rich history!We had the most relaxing and peaceful vacation. If you're looking for a quiet farmhouse that’s still conveniently close to town, this is the perfect spot. Mornings on the porch with coffee and evenings with your favorite beverage—watching the groundhogs, cows, or even the neighbor calling his goats—are pure bliss. You won’t be disappointed. We will definitely be staying here again!

Lovely get away

The home was beautiful and clean. It rained most of our stay but there were games and puzzles to keep us occupied. To be honest we spent most of our time watching the cows and wild animals and taking in the breath taking mountain scenery. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed for traditional meals. We also tried one of the local restaurants, recommended in the owners notes. Dino's was a quaint little Italian restaurant with delicious food and fantastic service. There was hiking trails, river rafting and lake access very close in driving distance, we were not able to go because of the rain but we would have given the chance. I would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful, relaxing Farmhouse

This stay was so refreshing. Walter & Mae’s Farmhouse is so picturesque, well furnished, so quaint and clean, we really enjoyed our stay so much! Such nice and considerate Hosts! The neighbors so open and genuine, the cows in the pastures, the trails, too many nice things to list. We will definitely return!

Lovely farmhouse

We enjoyed our stay at the farmhouse over Thanksgiving. It was a few miles from my family’s house and easy to get to. They had all we needed and it was very clean. We especially enjoyed watching all the cows in the morning from the porch and right outside the kitchen window. Beautiful mountain views too. Good WiFi connection. Just make sure you screenshot the access code before getting there because there is no service until connected.

Darling farm house and beautiful setting

We loved staying at Walter and Mae's farmhouse! It was clean and well stocked with bedding, towels, and kitchen tools. The setting was so lovely and picturesque! We walked the loop several mornings, and really enjoyed the quiet charming area.

Summer vacation

I enjoyed the summer at this very nice country cottage. The home is very clean and comfortable and had all the amenities needed for my stay. The area is safe and quiet. The farms on either side had cattle that I enjoyed watching and getting to know their habits. I made friends with some of the cows by feeding them carrots and apples every day. The neighbors were awesome and made feel at home, I will miss them. I highly recommend “Walter & Mae’s Farmhouse”.
