Positives of this cottage are the location (within 200m of waterfront), communication with the host, and the amenities provided (fast internet, cell reception, fully stocked kitchen).
Negatives are a few. When first entering the cottage there is a noticeable musky smell. It became evident why shortly after inspection. There is no bathroom fan in the main bathroom, and the toilet was leaking water from underneath. There was also some soft floor below the linoleum in front of the tub, without which my foot would have gone through the floor.
There is no air conditioning, even though there is forced air within the cottage, so it can be very warm and humid depending on the weather.
The beds and mattresses (for which you must bring your own sheets) are quite old. In the "en suite", the double bed is a metal frame couch, which is uneven and loud (especially with two sleeping on the bed). Having a baby in the same room forced my husband to sleep in a different room, since we wanted the baby to be away from most of the noise. For the price point of the cottage, I would have expected new mattresses, and sheets provided - cleaned by the host or property management.
The cottage was cleaned well by the previous renters in the main areas (this is how the renter expects to maintain cleanliness, with property management coming in to disinfect between renters). Less touched areas (window sills, behind couches, etc..) have considerable dust and many insects. We spent our final day packing our belongings and quite a bit of time vacuuming, wiping down the kitchen and bathrooms. I suspect that the further into the season you are renting, the more hidden dust you may find.
I am also not sure if kitchen towels and bathroom floor matts are cleaned between guests. I suspect that they are not.
