Built in 1865, this newly renovated apartment keeps all its historic charm while adding modern updates and amenities.

Perfect for couples or families.

The unit is located on the 2nd floor of a 3 unit home. Be courteous of other occupants.

The main bedroom and bathroom are on the main floor of the unit, along with a full kitchen and living room.

The kitchen includes all the amenities for preparing meals, including an electric cook top, oven, microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher.

The bedroom features a queen size bed. The bathroom includes a modern walk-in shower.

Upstairs in the attic bedroom, you'll find two queen-sized beds and two full sized futons sofas. This is a great room for up to 6 people.

The location in Keokuk Iowa is the perfect place for your visit to Nauvoo, being just a short 20 minute drive along the river to Nauvoo, and also around 20 minutes to Carthage.

Basing out of Keokuk gives you quick access to grocery stores, restaurants, laundry and Walmart.

CHARMING APARTMENT IN CHARMING, DECAYING KEOKUK

If you're a history buff and a walker, like me, you'll love the city and this VRBO property too. The owners of this 1865 manse have done a good job fixing it up, and as you can see by the decaying houses all around in the hood, many from the 1880s, that's not an easy task. Some of these grand old houses, for example those on the river just 2-3 blocks away, have been fixed up beautifully, but others sag and weep. * This VRBO apartment, on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a 3-story house (the bottom floor is a long-term rental), has been given a brave face-lift. The kitchen is contemporary and if not fully equipped, then darned near. (We brought & left behind coffee cups and a corkscrew; an electric water kettle is provided.) The LR is comfy for several readers and talkers, and the queen beds in the 2nd floor BR and attic (2 queen beds up there) are comfy too. The futons in the attic are anything but comfortable, but could be made so with a foam topper. Wifi worked well, and the only problem w the TV was a very odd remote whose volume control we could not figure out without calling the attentive property manager. The location is a fine base from which to launch explorations of the area, both depressed Keokuk and the Illinois communities on the other side of the Mississippi, including the historic Mormon village at Nauvoo, where Joseph Smith gathered some 40 thousand of the faithful in the 1840s, the largest city in Illinois at the time, before Brigham Young took the majority to Utah.

Beautifully Renovated Apt

The renovation was beautifully done in this historic home. Spacious and comfortable. Wifi wasn't happening and there was some confusion about using it. Would highly reccomend the apt., however.
