Welcome to the Hollow--a newly renovated private basement apartment located minutes from Shenandoah National Park & Massanutten Resort & the Shenandoah River. Perfect getaway for your family or a small group retreat.

Enjoy beautiful views by the firepit, float down the Shenandoah River, treat yourself to the local restaurants or stroll around the town. Great location for a day trip to the Luray Caverns, Grand Caverns in Grottoes or even Monticello! Local farms nearby include White Oak Lavender Farm and Cross Keys Farms.

Heads up-this basement has 7 foot ceilings! No AC available. The basement is naturally cooler, 68° to 74° depending on the time of year. But outside weather affects it too.

*FYI: an optometry business above the apartment is open 7:45am to 6:30pm MTWTh, and 7:45am to 4:00pm on Fridays. Muffled noises can be heard from above during these times.*

The kitchen was fully furnished with every item you could possibly use. Little extras throughout the apt. Hostess was a dream to work with.We will definitely return and tell all our friends about this wonderful place.

Great location for easy access to Shenandoah NP!The Hollow was beautifully appointed and attention was paid to every detail. Check in was easy and the host responded immediately to messages . We will definitely return!

Perfect Shenandoah Stay!

The Hallow is the perfect place to stay to explore Shenandoah National Park! 10 minute easy drive. Ruth and her family do a fantastic job hosting! Warm welcome, Very clean and comfortable! You won’t be disappointed. Old 33 is a perfect place for dinner after hiking in the park all day! Burgers, fries, and milkshakes!

Beautiful, Spacious, Clean!

We had an amazing one week stay at The Hollow!! Such a well-appointed, spacious, basement apartment that easily sleeps 4 people. Beautiful kitchen to prepare your own meals. HUGE comfortable couch. Clean, bright bathrooms. Walking distance to restaurants. Right up the hill from a great park. Just a 10 minute drive to the Swift Run entrance of SNP. Ruth is a very kind, communicative, and helpful host!

Loved the Hollow

Stayed as nephew getting married in the area but lived the location and convenience to Shenandoah National Park and Masanutten. Great host that did a lot of little extras - treats, coffee, etc. Wished we had more time to enjoy it all had to offer. Will be back.

Great place!

Very nice location and place in Elkin just 15 minutes from the ski slopes. It’s under a building in the basement but has windows for light to come through. Everything was brand new and in great shape with all of the extras like linens and towels, soaps all included! Highly recommend

Beautiful Space

Very clean and welcoming. Exactly as pictured. Host was very gracious. Elkton was charming. Didn't get to explore much because we were in town for a wedding and on a tight schedule. Would most definitely stay here again if in the area.

Clean & Beautiful Property with Excellent View from Fire Pit

My family and I loved our stay in Elkton, VA. We had a fantastic time at this newly renovated property and couldn't have asked for a better experience. We have stayed in a lot of short-term rental properties, and I think this is the cleanest and freshest one we have stayed in yet. My kids enjoyed playing the several games available at the property and sitting around the fire pit outside. The fire pit area has a beautiful view of Massanutten Mountain. The rental is located below an Optometry Office, but we knew this when we booked our stay, and our host let us know that there would be people in the office throughout the work week during normal business hours. This didn't bother us at all. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed to cook meals. There were even toddler dishes, which I appreciated for my youngest son. My kids enjoyed sitting around the large island and choosing which seat to sit in. The location was perfect for exploring Shenandoah National Park and Massanutten Resort, which has an excellent water park and ski resort. We appreciated the thoughtful recommendations provided by our host. Communication with her was seamless, and she quickly responded to our questions. Overall, our stay here exceeded our expectations, and we can't wait to return. We have already booked a stay to come back in October. Thank you to Ruth for creating such a wonderful retreat!

Convenient location with a brand-new space to make your weekend special. Stonewall Memorial Park is across the street. Shenandoah National Park entrance and Massanutten Resort are just minutes away. JMU is only a 20 minute drive. Access in town to the Shenandoah River South Fork for tubing or kayaking. Two kayaks available on request! Enter the river at Riverside Park (climb down the bank and hop in the river!), exit at Elkton VDWR Boat Ramp. 30-40 minute river trip.
