Great escape is appropriate name. Very quite and relaxing area. Beautiful views with huge porch with comfortable chairs and a large dining table to enjoy it from. Comfortable bed and lovely furnishings and a fireplace. Internet was spot on which is sometimes an issue with other places we stayed. House is about 1/2 hour outside of town of Burnsville so bring the essentials you will need. Burnsville has a Publix and a thriving downtown with places to shop and eat. Can't go wrong with Lil Smokeys drive in unless you are one of those uppity types. Little Switzerland cafe is about 15 minutes away. Beautiful views on drive there. Lunch and dinner menu are each about 10 items each but the baked good are out of this world! Lovely bookstore there larger than some library's I have been to with coffee and baked goods as well. If you are looking to get away from the everyday hustle and bustle this is the place.

Loved this mountain oasis

Could not have asked for a nice,r, more quiet getaway. Property manager was easy to get in touch with as needed, the house was spacious and lovely. We LOVED the indoor fire place. Will definitely come back to this house!

Mini vacation

Check in was easy, house is comfortable and quite pet friendly with the fenced in yard and screened in porches. Only thing is… no hot tub, at least that we could find, even though it’s in the listing.

Great Property

House was clean, nicely furnished and comfortable. Everything needed for a relaxing stay was provided and the views were great. Enjoyed having dinner on the back porch. Our only negative was the road leading up to the house, it needs a little help.

Loved the property

Could not have been happier about the house. It was perfect for our family gathering. Enjoyed the property, especially the porches. The “Bumpus” hounds next door were a bit intrusive, but not a big deal.

Nice House

Overall the house was pretty nice. I found it a bit dark. One of the bathtubs and one of the pans not clean when we arrived. The requirement to pack out your trash was annoying.

Quiet escape

We really enjoyed our stay near Burnsville. The house was the perfect size for 4 adults plus one dog. The kitchen was well-equipped for cooking, and the house is in tip top shape with a lovely screened porch. The beds and many chairs are very comfortable, and there is room to spread out. This house is fairly remote from most services, so make sure you bring your favorite must-have snacks and drinks. One family member was working remotely while the rest of us vacationed, and he had no difficulties with the internet service. We spent some time exploring the area and enjoyed a number of hikes and waterfalls, and spent one evening in Burnsville relaxing over great pizza and beer. It was a very relaxing change of pace and we would recommend this to anyone!

Perfect mountain house for Us!

For us that love a mountain house in the area it was perfect. Our dog, Hershey Bear, loved it as well. There is a small part of the shared drive(25yrd, only feels longer for some) that is kind of shaky but not that bad as long as your not driving a low coupe or sedan. Be advised, plan well on groceries, bc you can't just go out quickly to get something you forgot. It's perfect if you do. Communication with the rental management was very easy and the kitchen is well stocked with utensils and equipment. We also really enjoyed the outside screened in porch, they even screened in under the deck to keep the buggies away. Plan to eat there a lot. The sunroom was awesome as well, but probably better in colder weather. Overall, we loved it!! Thank you!

Pleasant experience

Would have given four or five star except for the bedding. Mattresses really need replacing. Other minor thing is replace one of the swivel chair on the screen porch. House is as advertised. As good a location as it gets for hiking for the water falls on the BRP and Roan mountain. We had a good time there and would go back if the bedding is replaced. The large fireplace was really enjoyable. We brought our own wood so didn't have to buy any but there is a place on 80 which sells larger quantities of wood. We never turned on the TV. The glass porch is nice in the morning as it catches the early sun. There is some good star gazing from the driveway, did see some of the milky way.

Mountain Hideaway

If you are looking to be remote in the hills , this place is for you. If you expect mountain view’s , go during the winter when the trees around the house are bare. This property is pet friendly and now I know exactly what that means. Previous visitors have obviously allowed their pets to use the beds and furniture. It is a nice house and had plenty of room for our party of four. But the house is not clean, reeks of dog smell, has dirty carpet with pet stains and it seems there have not been any upgrades in furniture or furnishings since they joined VRBO in 2008. Prepare to bring your own bedspread and blanket. The screened porch is nice and morning coffee was enjoyed there. This is the first negative review I have ever given but I could not have been more disappointed with how we found the house after traveling for 8 hours. The phone number given for the management company has been disconnected but you can reach then by email. To their credit, they did refund me the cleaning fee and one nights stay after I arrived behind someone else who had left sheets on the floor, wet sheets in the washer, dirty bathrooms, dirty carpet and unmade beds. If we had had somewhere else to go we would have and fortunately we were out of the house during the day and only there at night. Sorry, just not what I have come to expect from VRBO.

This could have earned 5 stars but fell a little short

Were it not for a couple things I would rate this vacation home 5 stars. First let me say the house is immaculately clean and well equipped and decorated. I certainly appreciated the owner’s super quick response in accepting my request. Thank you VRBO! The photos accurately portray the house, furnishings and grounds. No surprises there. Be sure to plan on 20 to 30 minute one-way trips (40-50 minutes round trip) for anything: gas, food supplies, dining, etc… There are no quick trips to anything. All that is okay. Just plan accordingly. I would have awarded 5 stars were it not for the following: The house is a bit dark inside. There are ceiling fans in all the bedrooms, living area, sun room and two fans on the screened porch where ceiling lights would have been installed but none are equipped with light globes. The kitchen is well lit. It appears the owners may have added all those fans replacing ceiling lighting because the interior switches by the door exits to the porch, and now enclosed side porch/sun room, living area and bedrooms only turn the fans on and off instead of what you would expect to turn on lights. After dark, your only option when going out onto the screen porch is to manually turn on one of two pole-type reading lights out there. Look at the photos carefully! The dining table is on the screen porch and not in the house. It has only a reading lamp to illuminate it. All of this may never have been obvious to a warm summer dweller. But now that autumn has arrived it was too cool for five adults to eat meals outside in the darkened area after sundown. Inside, lighting came from scattered low wattage lamps here and there also. There is a small bar separating the kitchen and living area with no seating; definitely not large enough for five standing adults to eat a meal. I hope the owner will take a cue and reconvert the “business” area back to a breakfast nook with table and chairs and install some light fixtures on the fans. You will be required to dump your own garbage at a public dump site in Micaville 20+ minutes north of the house. I and all my family were departing southward and did not want to add another 40+ minutes to our rides back home to empty the trash. I put all the trash in my car and brought it home with me. If all this gets addressed in the future, the place would be 5+ stars. As it is, I can only give 3+ stars to an otherwise great, clean, well equipped home

The Great Escape was a very comfortable stay. The beds were comfortable, the fireplace was great, the kitchen had everything we needed. The porch was amazing with great views. We really appreciated the fenced in backyard for our dogs. The house was easy to get to and in a good location. We enjoyed our stay.

Restful

First trip to the mountains. Weather was perfect. Loved the sunroom and the large screened deck. Wifi was super fast. Very comfortable house - well stocked. Emerald Village 10 minutes away - lots to see there and get ice cream! Great dinner at Switzerland Inn. It was a great stay but not a lot to do close by so 7 days was a bit too long for us - got tired of driving those crazy mountain roads!

Nice get-away

This property was as advertised with the porch being our favorite place to relax. The house was well-equipped. We enjoyed adventuring out to Mt Mitchell, Roaring Fork waterfall, Set Rock Creek Falls, and downtown Burnsville.

Great space!

The home had amazing space for our family and an absolutely beautiful screened porch. The rooms could have been a little cleaner - dusty in areas - but the home was very well stocked with anything we needed.

Beautiful Trip

House was great and the screened in porch is so awesome! The nights and mornings were cool so we ended up turning the fan on and leaving the doors open to the screened in porch. Breakfast and dinners were great on the porch too. House was very clean and beautifully decorated. Even had a little TV/play area for my granddaughter to hang out in when we were home. Not gonna lie.... house is straight up the mountain and the roads are very curvy but that is a matter of taste and it was exactly where we wanted to be and was so peaceful. Honestly it did not take us very long to learn the area and get used to going up and down the mountain. There are so many things to do that are close by and we also drove into Asheville and Boone.

Long Memorial day weekend getaway

The property is beautifully decorated and up to date. We, including our dogs, loved the two porches and the fenced in back yard. I would recommend to check on the security lighting as one light was out. We arrived one evening during the rain and had difficulty seeing the staircase. Please make renters aware of the trash disposal process. During our stay the convenience center was closed 2 days with the holiday weekend making it difficult to dispose of our trash. My wife has cancer and has been quite ill. We both found this to be a nice relaxing weekend for her birthday celebration.

Everything We Needed

The property was great. Great views, peaceful and in good shape. The multiple bedrooms were a must and appreciated by our kids. The spread out room was great and we enjoyed the outdoor screened in porch.
