Nice apartment that has cockroaches

This listing is a very nicely decorated apartment, in a neighberhood with several good restaurants just around a corner, and is very close to a subway stop. The host also texted a few times during my stay to check in. However the building has cockroaches. It does seem like there are pest control measures in place, as two of the times that I saw a cockroach it was already dead. The basement laundry room is also very dirty. TLDR: nice host, good apartment, bad building.

appartement bien agencé et bien situe

Nous avons passé une semaine dans cet appartement bien équipé, dans quartier calme et près du métro. Les seuls bémols: l'état du matelas (use, trop mou qui nous a donné mal au dos), idem pour la canapé du salon. Les ustensiles de cuisine (poêle) et le micro onde sont usagés. Bref un bon appartement mais qui mériterait de nouveaux investissements par son propriétaire! En l'état je le déconseille aux personnes ayant des soucis de dos.

Small and cozy

We had a very nice experience at Henry’s place. The apartment is perfect for two people, but three will be ok too. Henry was always nice to us and replied quickly, even when we were not able to get the keys and texted him at 2am. The apartment is very close to the subway and the upper east side. We were able to walk to the Guggenheim and Copper Hewitt, and got everywhere else by taking the subway. Only problem I noticed: there is a small uphill walk when going out of the subway that can be overwhelming when you are tired. Plus, you’ll have to climb three floors using the stairs to get to the apartment (there is no elevator).

Petit appartement bien équipé dans quartier animé.

L'appartement se situe au 3ème étage dans un immeuble ancien typiquement new-yorkais. Il est très chaleureux (attention aux objets et bibelots d'Henry !).Il est parfait pour 3 personnes. L'escalier est un peu raide après une journée de marche dans New-York, mais ça fait partie du charme ! L'appartement se situe au tout début du spanish Harlem, quartier populaire et très sympathique. Il y a pas mal de petits bars et restos aux alentours, et le métro est à 200 m. Juste un petit bémol, la rue est assez bruyante la nuit mais on s'y fait. En résumé, un séjour très agréable que l'on quitte à regret !

Clean apartment, so-so neighbourhood.

The apartment is located on the 4th floor and only accessed by a fairly narrow stairway. It's somewhat dismaying to return to, especially when you've been out walking around NYC all day. Whilst not particularly large, it's absolutely fine for two people - four would be a bit of a struggle I imagine. Inside is fairly well equipped and quite clean. We did once see a single cockroach (and it was the largest I've ever seen!), although this was just a one-off and doesn't appear to be a big problem. Outside was a different story. Every night, the pavement was covered by refuse bags awaiting collection - something I believe quite standard in NYC. On returning to the apartment in the evening a couple of times we were welcomed by rather brazen rats, sauntering along the roadside buffet of blue bin bags. Easy enough to avoid, but unwelcome nonetheless. The NYPD/Fire station across the road wasn't a problem, although you do regularly see flashing lights through the thin blinds at night, accompanied by the odd 'woop' on the siren. We had no problem sleeping though and it's not a noisy neighbourhood. It felt a quite safe area and we never felt threatened. There are plenty of small shops around, although for many, English is not their first language. Choice of groceries are very limited; beer, pop, biscuits and crisps for the most part. I asked about butter at one place and he'd never heard of it. We ate out on the whole, so never tried to find a proper supermarket though. There are a few restaurants nearby, of differing quality, but we usually ate out downtown. The 'Supreme' pizza from Dreamers on 3rd Avenue was pretty good though. How on earth 14 inches qualifies as 'small' though, is beyond me. Access to the subway was literally around the corner and for me, the best way to get around. You can buy weekly metro passes for around 32 Dollars per person at the station and the No.6 line covers a lot of the main NYC attractions you will want to see. Change at Grand Central for the shuttle to Times square and you're right in the thick of it. We took a taxi from JFK airport to the apartment, which takes about an hour. There was a 20 minute queue at JKF and it costs around 70 Dollars total each way. Hailing a cab back on the street back to JFK was straightforward and took us five minutes (a couple of cabs made up excuses as they obviously didn't want the fare). Overall this place was great for the price and a decent base for exploring New York.

idéal pour un séjour à NYC

Nous avons passé 9 nuits dans l'appartement de Henry fin décembre 2017. Il nous a accueilli chaleureusement et nous a montré le quartier. Nous avons vécu dans son appartement avec beaucoup de plaisir, nous nous y sommes senti très bien. Nous avons écouté ses CD qui ont accompagnés notre séjour. Un appartement de caractère, très bien situé et desservi par les transports , métro et bus, avec des commerces autour et central parc juste à côté. Et Merci Henry de nous avoir laisser l'appartement un peu plus longtemps en raison d'un vol de nuit.
