After vacationing in the Gatlinburg area of TN for 20 years, I was a little hesitant to try a new area, and one with a house instead of a cabin, at that. Let me tell you...we were NOT disappointed! I'm certain that I don't have enough room to write enough praises, but read through the reviews carefully and you'll get an idea of what awaits you. It's not going to be for everyone. The nearest...anything, is 40 minutes away! If you're stuck to your phone or internet, you may want to look elsewhere. But if you're looking for an escape, a piece of unconnected paradise to refresh and reconnect, look no further! Hemlock Grove is a destination on its own!
We stayed at Hemlock Grove with 4 adults and 12 children. The bunkhouse was a lifesaver! I'm not sure how we've ever vacationed without one and don't think I'll ever be able to again. The kids loved the pool table and Wii, along with the movie nights...of course all of this only at night because, during the day, this property is a childhood paradise! 300 acres?? We fished at the pond, hiked the numerous trails, roasted Smores, built forts, climbed trees, set up volleyball and soccer in the field that was generously offered, and took time for lots of target practice.
We brought our own food because, like I said, it's a trek for anything. We did venture out one day to visit Fort Loudon. It's beautiful and an interesting trip that's not too far, but there's really no need to go anywhere. Wait until you see the stars at night!
The cottage itself is comfortable and homey. In fact, never before have I left a vacation home without a backache. This was a first at Hemlock! On top of it all, Lee has been so kind and hospitable throughout our entire stay. It really could not have been better! Lord willing, we'll be back!!
