This unique getaway features two luxurious king bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and a cozy living room with a queen sofa bed—offering comfort for every guest. Modern amenities ensure a seamless stay, including a full kitchen, WiFi, air conditioning, a laundry room, and indulgent extras like a fireplace or a hot tub and firepit for peaceful evenings under the stars.

We had a great stay! The property was perfect for our group of four adults and two kids. It’s a great size, clean, well stocked and has an amazing view. The hosts did a wonderful job when they remodeled the property. We appreciated all the little details and thoughtfulness that went into it. The place is well stocked with quality products, which was also appreciated. We would definitely stay here again!

This property exceeded any expectations we had for girlfriends get away in Galena. The time, hard work and thought the host put into this property shows in every detail. Very comfortable, very clean, and beautiful touches...loved being out in the country but super close easy drive into town. Took me right back to growing up on a farm. Patio was perfect for dinner & snack time. We will be back!

My 4 adult boys and I stayed here for our trip to The Field of Dreams movie site. The property was wonderful. It had everything we needed. We enjoyed a nice evening around the fire pit and in the hot tub. Hire was awesome! Great communication before during and after (we left something in the dryer). Definitely recommend the property and I may come back to spend more time in the beautiful Galena downtown with my wife

Everything was perfect

I typically rent houses when I travel with my wife or with the entire family. I've rented a lot of houses. This rental impressed me the most with the attention to detail. The decorating was perfect for the location. Everything was high quality -- especially the beds/towels. This house has everything you need or could possibly want while staying there. No need to run to the store at all. I have nothing bad to say about this rental. Thanks.

Wonderful Stay at a Charming Schoolhouse Retreat

We were fortunate to be the very first guests at this adorable property!! The owners did a fantastic job renovating the old schoolhouse, blending historic charm with cozy, modern comforts. The décor creates such a welcoming atmosphere, and the home is stocked with everything you could possibly need to make your stay enjoyable.Thoughtful touches like a welcome letter, festive 4th of July bling, baskets of goodies, and cold waters waiting in the fridge were above and beyond—small extras that made a big difference.The outdoor area is perfect for relaxing: whether you're soaking in the hot tub, playing board games, or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings, it offers a private, country feel. It’s just a short drive to Galena, where we enjoyed great food and shopping.Krista was incredibly responsive and available if we needed anything. My husband and I had a wonderful time and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property to anyone looking for a unique and relaxing getaway.

We are just four high school friends who came up with an amazing idea after a couple of adult beverages, because no good story starts with a salad.....and here we are with a completely renovated schoolhouse that we are hoping you enjoy as much as we do.

Getting back to us, we are all local to Galena, 3 out of the 4 of us were born in Galena, the odd ball was born in Evanston, IL, but grew up in Galena since the age of 4. Now after all these years, the boys are married to two amazing women (that’s us....we are the amazing women) and between the two families we have 6 beautiful children.

Before your stay and during your stay, Lynn and myself (Krista) will be your hosts. So please let us know how we can help make your stay more relaxing and enjoyable.

We live in Galena, however, the township we live in is called Vinegar Hill. Prior to us, the schoolhouse was used as the Vinegar Hill Town Hall. A property we were all very familiar with, we voted here, the township board meetings were held here, many garage sales took place here. Then the township put it up for auction, it is equal distance from where both families live, so we figured why not!

Our unique property was built in 1912 as a one room schoolhouse. It was a school until 1958, when the Vinegar Hill Township purchased it and it became the Vinegar Hill Town Hall. We purchased the town hall in November 2024 and turned it into the gorgeous 2 bedroom, 2 bath property you get to enjoy now.
