Blankenburg House: Refined Rustic | Forest Serenity
Summary:
Blankenburg House is a beautiful 3 bed, 2 bath Craftsman-style cottage just 2 hours from NYC. Located minutes from Lake Naomi, guests can enjoy relaxing days on the water swimming or fishing. Explore the scenic Delaware Water Gap for more fun on the water, or head to the Lehigh River for thrilling activities.
Nearby towns: Blakeslee(10mins), Mount Pocono(10mins), Tannersville(15mins), Stroudsburg(25mins), Jim Thorpe(30mins)
The Space:
The Blankenburg House is a captivating turn-of-the-century Arts and Crafts cottage, originally built in 1910 as the summer residence of former Philadelphia Mayor Rudolph Blankenburg.
Rich in history and designed by noted architect Wesley Lesher Blithe (1873–1946), the home showcases beautiful stonework, a vaulted central living space with 25’ ceilings and original wood detailing + unique artistic touches throughout the home.
The spacious and light-filled living room features a massive stone fireplace and built-in banquettes nestled beneath banks of windows—perfect for curling up with a book, enjoying conversation, or sipping your morning coffee. This inviting space flows seamlessly into the dining room, where large windows overlook the garden, and then into a fully equipped kitchen complete with a breakfast island.
The master bedroom features a queen bed, the first guest bedroom has another queen bed and the second guest bedroom has a double bed. The home offers two bathrooms: one with a walk-in shower and separate soaking tub, and another with a walk-in shower.
A cozy den doubles as a game room, offering a foosball table, a miniature Atari arcade, and a PS4 with a flat-screen TV—ideal for friendly competitions.
Step outside to enjoy the expansive wraparound covered porch, outfitted with generous seating and dining areas that invite relaxation in every season. As the sun sets, gather around the outdoor fire pit for stargazing, storytelling, or simply unwinding with a glass of wine. Whether you're drawn by the rustic charm or the historical legacy, The Blankenburg House is a unique and memorable retreat.

The Neighborhood:
Start your day with artisan coffee and pastries at Mountainhome Coffee or brunch at Fork Street Bistro in Mount Pocono, a hidden gem with creative twists on breakfast classics.
For hiking with a view, head to Big Pocono State Park or take a scenic walk along the waterfalls at Austin T. Blakeslee Natural Area. After your outdoor fix, wind down at Barley Creek Brewing Co., which offers craft beers and cocktails in a stylish lodge setting—don’t miss their distillery next door.
Dinner out? Book a table at The Frogtown Chophouse, known for upscale steaks and a moody vibe, or try Bistecca by Il Mulino at Mount Airy for a luxe night out. For a more laid-back evening, sip curated wines at Mountain View Vineyard & Winery, just 25 minutes away, or check out Log Tavern Brewing for a trendy but relaxed scene.
Whether you’re chasing crisp air or crafted cocktails, everything stylish and special is within 30 minutes of your stay.
Getting Around:
The Blankenburg House is just 2 hours from New York City. A car is essential for getting there and exploring the area. The main access routes are the I-80 E and I-78 E. We strongly recommend a 4x4 or a car with four-wheel drive, especially in winter, to handle snow and gravel roads.
