Great Vacation Home

Excellent vacation home. We came down with a group of 12, and had more then enough room. Huge house that reminded me a lot of the large OBX rentals you find. Everyone raved over the house in our party, and we will definitely plan on coming back next year. Thanks Ben for allowing us to use your home. Looking forward to next year already!

Fabulous family reunion beach rental

What a great family rental...Thank you for making our family reunion a great one! Your beach house is beautifully decorated and there was plenty of room for everyone. It was great to all be in one house and everyone still had their own space. The grandparents spent their time on the deck and the kids spent hours fishing from the dock. We will let you know our week for next year soon!

We had a wonderful time. Grandchildren loved crabbing in the canal and we took a paddle boat and they loved using it in the canal. Very roomy. Ben was very good at getting back to me if we had a question. We loved the game room. We all had a great time

Awesome Rental Home

Our large family (17 kids and adults) decided to go to the shore for vacation this year. We picked this house for the size and location. It was everything advertised and more. This home is beautifully decorated, very comfortable, and in a great location. An awesome house for large families that have kids of all ages. The owners were great to work with answering all question in a timely manner.

Awesome property for reunion!

There were 14 of us aged 8-64. My siblings and nephew all came from the west coast. I rented a kayak and bikes, but there was plenty to do at the house already. With the game room and the dock. The kids fished and caught crabs. The house accommodated everyone. I was under the impression I needed to rent linens, but the house comes with linens and towels. Ben was great from the very start. He answered all my questions. I will definitely stay here again. Rent this house, you will not be disappointed.

Basketball at the Beach

A Shore Thing is a large, convenient and well-furnished beach house made perfectly for our group of guys who enjoy basketball, board games, beach walking, and great home cooking (baby-back ribs and a few beers). My group comes every year, and the owner is extremely helpful in making our stay comfortable. And the owner makes several improvements from year to year to make the whole place a bit more comfortable. We love our get-away weekend there. Len

We we're unfortunate enough to have our stay during what seemed like a monsoon, so we didn't have great weather for venturing out. Luckily, the house was perfect for such circumstance. Lots of games, pool, pinball, foosball. Our last day we had a break in the rain and finally enjoyed the deck a bit. We did have one window on the first floor leak A LOT during the storm but aside from that everything else was pretty great. We really enjoyed our stay and may be back.

great size and location but NEEDS CLEANING!!

location wise is perfect and size wise this house is perfect for big groups. every bedroom has its own bathroom too. but this house is not maintained well at all. the picture of the front of the house must be old because its all covered in overgrown weeds now. the blinds have stains, the house is very dusty, there are sheetrock patches in most rooms, mold in the showers, there are like 4 pillows in the whole house, the beds make a lot of noise when you move on them, many light bulbs were blown out and not replaced, and the floors coming up in some places. this house was built very nice but needs a major updating and cleaning!!!! do not recommend for clean freaks.

Great Experience

Our entire family of 14 really enjoyed our week from July 21st – 28th at A Shore Thing. We found the property to be very clean, fully equipped & operational and of course the location simply can’t be beat. We had plenty of room, (including parking) never felt crowded and you could find a quiet spot to go off by yourself to read a book or shoot some pool. At the same time the gathering areas around the kitchen and the large TV’s were designed to hold most everyone. Also, we had enough table space to sit everyone down for dinner and to carry on with large card games later in the evening. Not even including the two picnic tables on the screened-in deck. The couple of times when we needed Ben, the owner, we had no trouble at all reaching him. The first night there we accidentally blew a fuse and needed a code to access the garage and the fuse box. Despite it being late in the evening, Ben was very responsive and back to us with the answer in minutes. Ditto later in the week when some of the family accidentally locked some other of us out of the house during the day! They were good though and had properly secured all the other entrances to the house! A text to Ben and, again, minutes later he was back to us with the answer. He has absolutely been an excellent landlord to us since the moment we booked September of last year. The family has rented houses for vacation in the Outer Banks for over 20 years and loved it. The drive and the traffic finally got to us. A Shore Thing has been one of the very best experiences we’ve had. So, we have already booked it for vacation next summer!

Miss it already - Home away from home!

We had such a great weekend and can't wait to come back! "A Shore Thing" fit our group of 5 families, 3 of them with young kids, very well. We were all very comfortable and immediately felt at home in this wonderful vacation property. It is portrayed perfectly in the photos, is very clean and professionally (tastefully) decorated without being cluttered. The kitchen is fully stocked with utensils for cooking, grilling, blending drinks, and entertaining. My husband and I were in the 'Starfish Room', and it was incredibly comfortable. I wish I could take the bed home with us. Sleeping in each morning was amazing, even in a house with toddlers running around early in the morning. I can tell a lot of care was put in to decorating and making it comfortable. I appreciate that there is a ceiling fan just about everywhere one can be, and all of the switch labels are conveniently labeled. We plugged ipods/ smartphones into the house sound system that played music out the ceiling speakers on the main level, also enjoying movie nights and game nights at "home". We found the location to be great, just outside of the Ocean City chaos in a nice quite neighborhood. We walked (almost every day) to Harpoon Hannah's, which offered both fun day-time meals for the family with live music, and also a late-night bar scene with DJ, boats pulling up to the dock, and dancing on the lit up dock! A lot of fun, and so close. There is another bar/restaurant even closer just across the main road, but I forget the name as we didn't make it there once we got stuck on Harpoon Hannah's. Also close were the Crabcake Factory where we had an excellent bloody mary brunch on the water, and we also walked the just-under-a-mile walk to the beach each day, which made more sense than trying to find parking during high-season. And let's be honest, we could all use the walk with all of the food and beverages we were enjoying! Thank you, Ben, for such a great experience. We will look to you again when we have a chance to make it back to the Eastern Shore!

Great Location, Not Clean!

First, the Pros: 1. Lots of room for our families to spread out. 2. Lots of TVs for everyone (the one in the alcove on the second floor did not have the Comcast remote and was not usable 3. The pier out back provided hours of fun for the two teenage grandsons (crabbing and fishing) 4. Great game room 5. Great location The Cons: 1. The cleaning service is not cleaning the place and if there is a management company, they are not inspecting for needed maintenance. We did not use the hot tub or jetted tub because with the cleanliness issues below, we were afraid they were not fully disinfected: a. Black moldy and/or dirty vents - e.g., we had to spray Lysol around the vent in the third floor master bedroom and try to wipe off as much mold as possible out of concern for the mold blowing over the head of the bed (moldy vent in 3rd floor bathroom), visible dirt on every vent in every room. b. My daughters wiped down cobwebs and visible dirt between the island lights and ceiling in the kitchen, the coffee pot filter basket was moldy and required cleaning prior to use. c. Thick dust around frames in bathrooms, my girls cleaned them d. Oven does not come up to temperature, so it is unusable e. Third floor master bathroom, right sink - the cold water faucet does not work f. Some Charley bars missing from the sliding glass doors so the house is not secured g. Bed pads visibly dirty - we all cleaned our pads prior to use - there was visible blood stains and yellow stains h. Some kitchen chairs are unstable and seem ready to break i. Fireplace does not work j. Kitchen pans - the Teflon is so scratched that they are not safe to use and there was not a sharp knife to be found k. One pier board is so warped it is a tripping hazard l. Moldy smell on the first and third floors m. Not all lights are working n. The shower outside had a missing shower head and the water flow was so forceful, we could not rinse the children off prior to bathing them inside o. In the second floor alcove, the end table was broken and unusable. p. Water damage on ceilings q. We had to move a dresser and bed - there was debris, headbands, flip flops, etc. The instructions in the kitchen said to get a permit for parking, but the permit is $120 and is not needed for parking at the beaches below the Delaware side of Fenwick.

House perfect for 10 adults. Ample parking for 5 cars.Close to restaurants and activities. TV issues when we arrived, but owner had advised. Went on a little longer than we thought.Wish there was a deck umbrella on lower level, lots of morning sun.New owner since we were there...so we heard.We'd do it again!

Definitely A Shore Thing for this family!

This house is perfect for a multi-family vacation! Loved that almost each room had its own private bathroom! The pinball machine and hot tub were the biggest hits! Awesome to be able to bring our boat. The neighborhood was serene! We will definitely be back!

Great space and location!

Our stay was great! There was enough space for us to be together and to be apart! Loved the access to the water/canal. We rented a pontoon boat, it was great to be able to have it for several days with having a dock. The beach was a very short ride and the beach itself was great! We were able to cook our meals with plenty of available cook ware-9 adults, 2 teenagers and 3 toddlers. Would love to return here!! The only downside was the dryer did not work but it was not really an issue because there was plenty of space to hang the wash!!

Great location

House was a great location. Neighborhood was lovely. Bathroom for every room. Size and layout were perfect for our large group. Needed some updates- scuffed paint, loose bannisters, plumbing issues, water leaks. Owner was very helpful with sending repair staff for plumbing fix.

A shore thing

This property continues to be maintained well. Our group stayed at this location every year for 15 years. It's as good as its ever been. The kitchen equipment showed some improvements this year. We will totally stay again.
