Won't be back

I’ve never previously given an unfavorable review. These comments are to benefit future possible renters as I relayed most of the points to the owner during our stay. Here’s a “complement sandwich”: Wonderful location. Nice beach. Plumbing leak from upstairs toilet dripped onto kitchen refrigerator with every flush. The leak had clearly been there for quite some time, as evidenced by (1) large ceiling water stain, and stains from dripping down cabinets, (2) large rust spot on top of the frig where we eventually placed a pail. Disappointingly, pre-rental the owner stressed “2-way communication” but never mentioned this obvious existing problem. The owner repeatedly mentioned that “the house was cleaned on a molecular level,” but a nurse & engineer (us) understand those words are nonsensical (gas ions in vacuum chamber?); yet we realize that most people might be impressed. I think the owner just meant was that Clorox All-Purpose spray was used on most flat surfaces below eye-level. All HVAC vents—other than 2 in entry room—were disgusting with black mold & dirt. The house needs a good all-around cleaning beyond just the surfaces and needs overall maintenance/TLC. The house sleeps 8; room for 5 in LR/Den & 6 at dining table. Hot tub listed on VRBO as a site amenity did not work and obviously hasn’t worked for a long time (science experiment in the residual water; needs to be drained). A nice, new washer/dryer. Lots of photos; didn't ruin hoiday. Won't be back.

Exceptionally clean home in a perfect location

If you are looking for an extremely clean and well-cared for home, nearly on the beach with a heated pool, look no further! Mike is a great host. He met us on arrival to show us around the house. A clean home is very important to me, and I could tell by the reviews and his house rules that this house was immaculate. It was even cleaner than I expected if that is even possible. Even though this home is not directly on the beach, you can actually see the ocean from the house and is a very short walk (just a few minutes) to the sand. We went the week before Easter and had the beach to ourselves. We travel to Florida every spring break and the beaches are always packed. Not this one! There are no hotels around this house, therefore limited beach traffic. We enjoyed walking to the local market (they make great subs), picking up pizza and going to a really nice seafood restaurant, all a 5 minute walk from the house. And if you need anything or have any questions, Mike is just a phone call or text away. Mike even has fishing poles and bikes for his guests to use. One other thing I found very reassuring is that Mike washes not only the bed sheets, but the comforters on every bed after every guest visit - this is something not commonly done in rentals. Beds are also very comfortable. I have 3 teenagers and they all had their own room which they loved. Mike also has a lot of really cool shells, collectibles and plants around the house which also makes this home very unique. We will certainly be back!

A slice of paradise

This home is a GEM!!! -Location is amazing. It's closer to the beach than many beachside condos we've stayed in. And the beach you can access is lined by other homes, not condos, so it's very private and quiet. Truly a world-class beach- sugar sand, fantastic waves, and beautiful sunrises! You can also see the ocean from the upstairs rooms, which was fantastic! -Michael is a tremendous host. Very attentive to the property and our experience as his guests. -The home is truly unique and we enjoyed it so much. The shell collection is comparable to what you would see in a shell museum, and are beautifully displayed. The plants and greenery both inside and in the backyard truly make it feel like a tropical paradise. -The home is clean and well kept. Kitchen is well appointed and equipped much better than what you would find in most rental units. -The beach gear was really fun and really leveled up our trip. Using the fishing gear for shore surfing was really fun. It was our first time surf fishing and we caught pompano, black drum, whiting, and even a bonnethead shark! -Having a private pool for the week was really enjoyable. -Walkable to the grocery store, bait shop, restaurants, pier, ice cream shop, lighted tennis courts, and basketball court. Summary- stop looking at other properties. Book this one. You're not going to find something better.

Everything in walking distance

The property had everything we needed. There is a food market right around the corner that you have to check out. Great selection of restaurants and even a small liquor store. The pool was a relief after a day on the beach. A lot of seaweed so the fishing was moved to the pier ( caught a 15 in redfish) which is a short walk. Definitely stay again.

Steps to Beach and Private Pool!

This property was a very nice, large home equipped with all the amenities needed, and was located practically on the beach, with a private pool in a lush, very private backyard, within a short walking distance of many stores, shops, and restaurants. Mike, the owner and host, was very accommodating and communicative before during and after our stay. The home was beautiful and very comfortable, and we found both the house and pool immaculate. We used the ocean kayaks, beach chairs, pool and ocean toys provided, and there were 2 very nice bikes, beach umbrella, beach towels, and fishing gear available as well. We loved that the property was also located on a very quiet street, but close enough to everything! We loved walking on beach every morning to see the stunning sunrises, so easy to do because of the easy access to the beach. We have been traveling to Melbourne Beach annually for over 30 years, and you cannot beat the value, location, and amenities that this property offers for a relaxing beach vacation. Thank you, Mike, we will definitely be back to rent from you again!!

Perfect

This place was perfect for our family of 7. We cooked our own food most of the time and anything we could’ve needed was there. The location was amazing, literally steps to a private beach, and a heated pool in the afternoon right out the back door. The owner is very responsive and helpful. We are already planning our next trip to Melbourne and are looking forward to staying at this house again. Thanks Mike for sharing your home with us.

Nice house. Great location. Owner was a problem for us.

Long term rental for us-2 months. Owner does not know how to rent long term. The place was set up for brief visiting only. Every day (except Sunday) the owner came by for his mail. He continued to have his packages delivered to the house. He regularly went into the backyard to water plants without asking permission. The fridge was filled with owner's foods which we were told not to touch. The house is filled with owner's collections. This means that there was very little counter space. We moved owner's food to a drawer of the fridge so that we could use it. We moved the air-fryer and multiple knife collections and tea cases off the counter and put them into unlocked spaces around the kitchen. We were living there-we kept the house very clean. Counters, now cleared, were constantly washed. Floors regularly swept. Dishwasher run daily. We left the house clean, bedding stripped, counters washed. We left the owner's refrigerated food still in the drawer. We did not return all the knives and tea cases and air fryer to counters. We returned all furniture to their proper places. We did not vacuum the bedrooms -- we had never been in them with shoes on! We did not bring in the BBQ, as the owner regularly reminded us, because we did want a propane tank in the house. We tilted over the lawn chairs every night (onto the grass) to keep the dew off. The owner always put them upright when he came into the backyard. We felt we left the house in good condition. We are a older couple (and we respect other's properties). After paying tens of thousands of dollars rental the owner has attempted to squeeze us for three hundred more because he feels we didn't put things back and that we left the carpets filthy (huh? -- simply not true). House is nice but overall needs maintenance. Exterior doors work badly, some drains don't work, and lighting is poor for reading. You are required to take off shoes in the house. You are required to leave lights on continuously. Pool was great. AC/Heat worked fine after we changed the air filters. The owner was a problem for us.His collections are in lighted glass cabinets, zip-tied shut, and the lights were not turned off for the two months we were there--some of them are directly opposite the living room tv so you can't watch tv in the dark without a glare. Overall, we felt bullied by this owner who wanted to rent at premium rates but did not want to stop living in and managing his house.

Great stay

Mike is super responsive. House is impeccably clean. Very close to the beach, which was reasonably empty every day we went. Walking distance to restaurants and ice cream! House is stocked with everything you need - beach chairs, beach toys, umbrella, shampoo, towels, etc.

Melbourne at the Beach

Great location. Beach is just a few steps away. Swimming pool was a great smaller pool. It was welcomed because of the weather. We had light showers and big waves coming into the beach. House has all the amenities! I have stayed at several VRBO homes, this one provided all the little things you might not have expected. Owner wants you to enjoy your stay!

Great location!

My husband and I and our 4 kids ages 13-19 stayed over April break. The location was fabulous. We couldn’t have been closer to the beach so it was super easy to go back and forth. We spent a lot of time in the pool which was fabulous as well. Mike had nice fishing poles that my husband and daughter made good use of and they used the bikes as well. We’d definitely come back!

Primo location!!!

I can't imagine a better location in Melbourne Beach if you want to be close to the beach with a pool. The house was spacious and provided all the room our family of 6 needed. Owner met us at the home for a quick tour with pointers. This was a good idea as it was helpful with figuring out light switch locations, and I wanted my kids to hear the owner explain the importance of the prized possessions on display inside the home. The pool was wonderful. The hammock was great. Kayaks, fishing poles, boogie boards were all there and ready to be used. And the beach is virtually right outside the front door! Tons of stuff just two blocks away...fabulous grocery market (with huge wine selection, butcher, fresh seafood and great prepared foods), a surf shop, bait & tackle store, drug store and a handful of good casual restaurants. We will be back as soon as possible. Thanks Mike!

Great Location, Great House, Great Owner

Mike, thank you for a great week for me and my family in your property. This was an excellent example of pride in ownership and customer service. The house was clean as a whistle when we arrived at our agreed upon time. Mike was ready for us, and gave us a full tour and helped with nuances of the home. The location cannot be beat, as you can walk to the beach, market, parks, and the river allowing for fun from sun up to sun down. The beds were very comfortable and the space allowed enough room for our family to spread out. This was an excellent trip and owner. Thank you again!

Great location, great host

We stayed for a month and really enjoyed our time at Mike’s home. The backyard and pool are spectacular and the house was spotless. Mike is a kind and wonderful host. The location is fabulous - the beach is out the front door and just steps to the beach. It is also easy walking distance(2 blocks) to a small downtown area with restaurants, a nice local market and gas station. Thank you Mike!

Great location with a pool and beach.

We all enjoyed Mike's Place by the beach. Our Grandchildren were either swimming in the pool or playing in the waves at the beach. Mike provided four fishing rods and we caught lots of whiting, drum and a couple of bonnet head sharks. Saw lots of wildlife at Turkey Creek Sanctuary including a manatee close up. You can walk to the pier on the west side and the market is a short walk also. Definitely a recommended stay.

Location, Location, LOCATION!

You cannot beat this house for location. Steps from the beach and a short walk to restaurants, market, bait shop and stores. Beach parking is limited to residents, so there is little to no traffic on the street or beach! It is also a ten minute walk to Melbourne Beach Pier for amazing sunsets and fishing. Beautiful ocean views from the second floor. The pool was fantastic and in great view from the kitchen and family room. After a visit to the beach, jumping in the pool was a little slice of heaven. The owner is easy to work with and accommodating. The house has a nice layout and would work well for two families with two bedrooms on the main floor and two bedrooms on the second floor. We would stay here again.

Amazing experience and wonderful place to stay

We were looking for a quiet getaway during Covid 19 and we couldn’t have picked a better spot. This is a beautiful 4 bedroom house. We loved having our own private pool right in the backyard. We were so excited that the beach was so close and not crowded at all. This is so easy to social distance. We enjoying riding the bikes. We even rode them to the market and the little ice cream shop right around the corner. My kids loved feed the fish in the pond in the yard. Mike was great to deal with and makes sure you have a great time. We will definitely stay here again next time we are in Melbourne Beach. Highly recommend!!!

Quick trip for a family function.

Great location, short walk to beach, market , liquor store. Everything a block or two away. Mike was great to deal with. Don’t let the orientation scare your, common sense rules. Biggest one is no shoes, who cares your in Florida. Don’t need them anyway. Overall great stay, would stay again. Also he has a great shell collection.

Fabulous location

Mike is a very good host. His lovely home is is spacious enough for three generations. Kids loved the pool and the easy access to the beach. He was quick to address the minor problem we encountered with the pool. Mike wanted to ensure that we had a great holiday.

Beautiful house with pool and close to beach!

The house was very clean and had everything that we needed. The location is a short walk across the street to the beach. Fantastic House

This is a beautiful home, on what I would describe as "second row" on the beach (45 second walk to the sand). The house has everything you'll need for a great vacation. It is clean, and beautiful. In fact, it is somewhat of a museum. Mike has an amazing collection of beautiful things. Because of this, if you have rambunctious children, this is not a place for you. Really, you won't enjoy the house, if your kids are prone to break fragile things. Mike takes care of the house, (and lives in it when it is not being rented). If you are looking for a place that you can trash, and leave a mess for the "cleaning crew", find another house. If you want a really nice house, with a heated pool, and everything that you need to have a great time at the beach, then this place is fantastic. This is NOT your average beach house. This is a home when it is not being rented. A very nice home!

I am a financial advisor of 30 years and world traveler. This house, my home has been renting for almost four years with over 150 five star reviews on other sites. I strive to keep it beautiful and sanitary so everybody can enjoy it. The house rules may appear to be strict however common sense treatment of the house does not seem to be common.

Because we have "House Rules" to keep it beautiful for everybody.

No smoking
Not suitable for pets
No parties or events
Not safe or suitable for infants (Under 2 years)
Check-in time is 3PM - 8PM
Check out by 12PM (noon)
Because of one bad apple ABSOLUTELY NOBODY in the house that is NOT AN APPROVED guest.
If you don't take your shoes off at the door, you have not read house rules.
***We have a quiet neighborhood, Respect surroundings.***
For allergy reasons no strong scents or strong perfumes.
Please respect amenities. Bikes, fishing equipment, boogie boards, etc.
Kitchen privileges = Clean up after yourself.
Coconuts hurt!, Standing under coconut trees is ill advised. Just saying.
An accurate check in time is much appreciated as I am not always around the house and would like to greet new guest.
This is my home as well as my house. Guest that will respect it as such are welcome.
I do not have a cleaning fee as I feel it is part of doing normal business. However, excessive sand, sunscreen or ignoring no shoes inside will result in charges.
No RV, boats, or trailers of any kind.
