Family Ski Vacation- Gore Mt

Great location for Gore skiing, and love the lake view. Accomodations were perfect for 3 families, and the home was clean and cozy. This was our 2nd stay here and we plan to come back next year.

Lodge at Birchwood

We had a wonderful time at the Lodge. It is spacious, clean and has amazing views of Loon Lake. The Christmas decorations and lights were a nice touch. The McGowan’s are great hosts. I would definitely stay there again.

Pleasant getaway

What a perfect retreat this house was. My group and I very much enjoyed our stay here, we are already planning another trip sometime this fall to see how gorgeous it is with all the fall foliage. The house was spacious, clean, and just perfect for a large group of people.

Looking forward to coming back!

We had a great stay! The cabin was clean, well cared for, and the owners were very responsive and accommodating. Beach access was a great—nice kayaks and life jackets in all sizes were provided, and the swim area was smooth and not rocky, perfect for kids. The lodge was also convenient for accessibility, with a spacious first-floor bedroom and shower, and all the bedrooms were roomy and comfortable. Just a heads-up: “pets” means one pet only (to be fair, it does say this when you read through but at first glance, it can seem like more than one). We will definitely be staying again!

Great place for family

Rented lodge to house 11 people. The lodge is clean and easy to find. It has a great view with an entire wall of windows looking over Loon Lake. We will rent again in the future.

Wonderful White Christmas

We had a great Christmas break with our family. The lodge has everything you need and it's close to Gore mountain, if you want to ski. Patrick was extremely responsive to all our questions. Great view over the frozen lake where people were ice fishing.Definitely recommend this place for a nice vacation.

Wonderful Snowboard Getaway

We recently stayed at the cottage and had a wonderful time. It has a very spacious kitchen and living room area for all to enjoy. There are so many DVDs and games to keep us entertained throughout the week. Patrick was an excellent host and very responsive.

Amazing view

We stayed for a winter holiday weekend and were charmed by the view of the frozen-over Loon Lake with its ice fishers and snow mobiles. The house is great! Might want to get the lighting a bit more finessed- superbright, cold lights here and there, in and outside, mess with the Cozy winter night vibes.

About the Owners: Birchwood Cottages is family owned and operated by Patrick and Margo McGowan, under our LLC, ADK Birchwood. Patrick & Margo McGowan have loved the Adirondack Park for decades and had been searching for the perfect spot to make their own in the Adirondacks. Margo and Patrick have always been drawn to the park; they were engaged in Brant Lake (just down the road) and married in Lake Placid, and vacationed in the ADKs just about every year since then. They have become quite the Adirondack groupies, scouring property and vacationing in various spots within the blue line for years and years, it was time to put down some roots.

How we came to love Birchwood: Margo had known about Birchwood Cottages for about 15 years, as she went to college with the previous owners daughter, and had visited Birchwood a few times throughout her college days. In years passed, she had always toyed with the idea of buying Birchwood – but considered it pipe dreams at best. In the summer of 2015, the McGowan’s came to Birchwood to have a mini college reunion with her friends and classmates, and it was then, that the timing was right to call Birchwood home! After a quick discussion with Art and Jill Spierre, and a seemingly short drive for Jen and Steve to check the place out, a handshake sealed the deal. The Hazelton’s and McGowan’s spent the summer back and forth to Birchwood, and in discussions with Art and Jill, and were finally able to call Birchwood theirs in September 2015. In 2020, Margo and Patrick made another leap and purchased the Hazelton's shares of the LLC.

Our goal is to keep Birchwood as a family friendly vacation spot for our loyal guests AND NEW ONES, so they too, can call Birchwood home (if even for a week or 2) for years and years to come!

Birchwood Cottages is a delightful set of cottages, and one large main house (The Lodge), settled on the north-west shore of Loon Lake surrounded by the Adirondack Mountains. In the summer the cottages can be rented by the week and include a nice sandy beach for the kids to play and swim. Our roped swimming area is easily accessible by steps that lead to a sandy gradual walk-in, and include a floating dock.

Loon Lake is a nicely tucked away little treasure in Chestertown, NY. There are multitudes of activities to do for a day trip- or never leave the beach- which ever you prefer. Full service marina located across the lake for all of your boating needs, and our large boat docks can accommodate any size boat! Winter time in norther Warren County boasts abundant activities; Skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, snowmobiling and annual winter festivals are plentiful.
