My name is Douglas; I was born and raised in California. One thing people know about me is that Hawaii is my favorite place in the world. I have had the great fortune of traveling to over 75 countries and Hawaii is still my favorite destination by far. I fell in love with the place when I decided to attend college on Oahu's North Shore. Hawaii was like nothing I ever experienced: the people were friendly, the water was clear and warm just like the air and there never seemed to be any shortage of outdoor activities. While in college I fell in love with the sport of surfing and started surfing the North Shore every day after school. I also took a real interest in the Polynesian people and culture. This interest has taken me to various parts of oceania besides Hawaii including: Tahiti, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and Fiji. Fortunately my friends and family all seem to share some of my passion for Hawaii and it has truly become a real gathering place for those close to me. When I'm not in Hawaii, I am a teacher and sales representative. I also lived in Brazil for two years doing volunteer work for my church; I speak fluent Portuguese and I'm learning Spanish. In my spare time I love hiking, camping, biking, swimming, traveling (obviously!) photography and travel writing. I have recently gotten interested in surf photography and have had several photographs published in magazines. I have also written a non-fiction travel book entitled 'To The Depths of Brazil' about an expedition some friends and I took to the Amazon Jungle in Brazil. I would like to welcome you into my home and hopefully Hawaii will captivate you as it has me and you will truly feel the spirit of Aloha during your stay.
Aloha and Mahalo!
