Great Get-Away

What a great little cottage; decorated perfect for the area. Easy river access from the canal. Had a great time kayaking and canoeing and will definately be back. Just down the road is "Howard's" Flea Market and Homasassa River State Park. Great location and the perfect vacation get a-way! Owner's are wonderful and easy to deal with.

Place was clean. Location to restaurants, etc good. Wish we could have parked in the driveway off the street and a sidewalk to the porch. Manager was helpful and kind.

Great Family Vacation Spot

This house was like a second home to my family. It has a great location which is close to the commercial listing for food and to the park where the kids can swim. The home came well equipped with kayaks for the beautiful canal behind the home. The host was quick to respond to my messages and was super friendly. I would recommend this to any family traveling into weeki wachee

Nature Getaway

Great location. We used the canoe but also brought a small fishing boat. We saw Manatee almost every time we went out. Had fun fishing the channels. Also encountered dolphins. Home had everything we needed. Loved the extra coat hooks throughout the house and king-size bed in master. Fenced in yard was great . . . Our dog loved it as well!

We have replaced our cleaning company and I am confident there will not be any issues in the future. We were unaware of any issues with the kayaks or canoes. We have retired one canoe and we were able to fix the kayak issue. Again, I’m happy that your overall stay was positive and you sent such a nice email stating you had a very pleasant stay. Not a bad place

Place was clean and fairly well equipped. Large pontoon boat was docked out back which took away from the view and any chance of fishing. Be advised there is no cell phone service in the area for some reason. You have to drive aways to make calls or text. Wifi was spotty as well.

We always welcome feedback as to how we can equip the home better to please everyone. We have always had visitors state there was everything you could possibly need in the home. There is a cell phone tower within a half mile from the house. Connecting to WIFI will resolve any issues. WiFi was checked and all is well. My husband and I are always available to call with any issues or concerns. We take the utmost pride in our rental and try to accommodate and please everyone.

TheWorst and dirtiest house I've ever stayed in

The pictures of the place were VERY deceiving! different furniture, all floors 1 1/2 inch from one side to the other unlevel! The bathroom was old and unlevel, you felt like you were stepping in a hole everytime you stepped down in it. Most all floors had a step down or 2 steps up. And it smelled musty and moldy….probably why there were air fresheners plugged in throughout the house. The garbage tote was already half filled up and not emptied. I stayed Jan 2-Jan 22, I could not stay any longer, my reservation in Weeki Watchee should not even be on VRBO, It will be a long time before I rent from VRBO again, I would like my cleaning fee back since I am the one that cleaned everything that was used. I paid A LOT for this dump and knew I could not get my money back so I was very unhappy that I had to stay in it. I could have rented a motel room cheaper and much cleaner than this and I will probably the next time. None of the pictures of the place depicted the way it really was, very deceptive and untruthful. Although, the pictures have been changed since I left the rental. No one paying this much should have to live like that!

Hi Nettie, we’re not sure we fully understand. The pictures you mention were just taken a couple weeks ago and include improvements we had made recently, such as; a new more comfy couch with a larger TV in the living room, a larger king bed with a new TV in primary bedroom, a new vanity in the bathroom, and a new larger refrigerator in the kitchen. These improvements were focused around further increasing our guest’s experience, and I believe most people would agree that they’re desirable. There is a small step down into the bathroom, along with the breakfast nook, and to get to the back bedroom as illustrated in the photos. We’re not aware of any smells that you mentioned, but we can certainly look into it. In regard to the outside garbage can being half-filled, I believe your original check-in was scheduled for later in the week, however you requested a special exception for an early check in, which we were happy to do, and have done for other guests in certain circumstances. Your original check-in day would’ve been after trash collection, and I believe we also have multiple cans on site for your convenience as well. The house was cleaned prior to your arrival, as it always is with all of our guest before their check-in. We recall on two separate occasions seeing you in person and you stating everything was fine with the house. We really do wish you would’ve brough any of your concerns to our attention, as we would’ve been happy to try and assist where we can. In regard to your cleaning fee, we again upon your request allowed your pet to stay on property based on your assurance of their well behaved manor and “house training”. Upon your check-out, we were disappointed to see the state of the home as it was re-confirmation for us why we try and pre-screen pets. We are saddened that you didn’t enjoy your stay even after we accommodated all of your special requests, and after seeing you in person seeming content with the property during your stay. We take pride in our property, and our open communication with our guest along with the quality of their experience. We truly hope that your next accommodations suit your needs better. River Refuge

Because of Covid 19 we were unable to go many places, but enjoyed kayaking from the river in the backyard and going to the beach 5 miles away. We were uncertain if we were going to be able to leave when our stay was up, and the owners were wonderfully flexible. We appreciated their support during a difficult time.

Weeki Wachee rental

Cozy little home on a canal with a soft relaxing breeze sitting outside. Nice stay away from major traffic, but close to shopping and a nice little beach on the gulf. We had everything we needed for a Nice vacation.

A one month stay-January 2020

The house had about everything you would need & it was decorated nicely. However, we could not get rid of the bad indoor smell, probably due to being an old wood house in a damp location. The 2 mattresses are worn out, uncomfortable, & sag in the middle. The yard was not clean as pictured. The patio was cluttered & there was a lot of extra seating (much needed cleaning). There were 2 nice webbed chairs. The house really could use a good spring cleaning & cleaning in the cupboards. The washer & dryer were nice. Can be a little hard to launch a kayak, depending on the tide, but nice to be able to paddle to the river.

Great stay for the price. Owners were very nice and responsive to a few questions we had. Enjoyed using the grill and eating outside on the patio. The canoe and kayak were great fun on the canal, but we had a very difficult (dangerous?!) time getting in and out of them as there was no good place to launch. Otherwise, all was great!

The house was perfect for our needs. The kitchen was even fully equipped for a family Thanksgiving dinner! Very clean and comfortable - just like home! We loved the canal/river access. And our hosts were extremely accommodating to our needs. Highly recommended location and lodging!

Cozy, homey cottage surrounded by nature

This cottage on the canal in Weeki Wachee Gardens is only a 10 minute drive to Bayport Park on the Gulf of Mexico, where people gather to watch the beautiful sunsets. There are plenty of parks around so you can enjoy nature even if you don't take advantage of the canoes provided by Paula and Ray. It's also close to all the restaurants and stores you could ask for. Paula and Ray were very responsive and easy to work with, but never intruded. They have the cottage stocked with everything you need to just move right in and start your vacation. It is decorated in a mermaid/nautical theme, which is so appropriate being right by the Weeki Wachee State Park with the mermaid shows. If you're looking for glitzy, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for a comfortable, cozy HOME during your vacation, this is it. I have already recommended this cottage to a family member.

Wonderful Cottage on the canal

Our family truly enjoyed our vacation at this very well-kept cottage on the canal. Inside the cottage is larger than we had expected and the decor fit the atmosphere well!! We really enjoyed using the 3 kayaks. Everything that we needed was there and Ray was so helpful in meeting us and assisting us some with our boat. The only negative thing about our experience was that it was difficult to get into and out of our boat with the PVC pipes and cement pavers...an actual dock would have made things a bit easier! However, we have 3 small children. Adults probably don't have a problem with that! We really enjoyed everything about our stay otherwise. We would love to come back again next summer! Thank you for everything!

Two long term stays

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this location during the winters of 2014 & 2015. (10-12 weeks per visit) Photos and descriptions of the cottage are accurate. It was recently redecorated, is clean, and well outfitted. Paula and Ray are attentive, friendly landlords. We enjoyed local attractions & events listed on the Hernando County website. Other renter reviews confirm our observations. Our circumstances have changed, or we would return for a third season. Thank you and best wishes to you Paula and Ray.

Canal Oasis

My husband and I spent three fabulous weeks at this very comfortable, cozy cottage on the canal! It was pure pleasure meeting the owners, Paula and Ray, both of whom could not have been more helpful or more accommodating. The cottage offers peace, quiet, comfort, all the amenities of home, and plenty of space! The canal provides manatees at your feet, turtles, and high jumping fish for entertainment! The cottage, though very private and peaceful, is conveniently located, just 5 miles to anything you might need. Though we did not take advantage of the canoe or kayaks, they were available. Our two small poodles loved the fully fenced yard, and had a great time chasing frogs and small lizards.

Perfect getaway spot!

What a great house for a weekend getaway! The owners were very flexible with our arrival and departure time, and took the time to meet us there to explain what's available in the house, give us the passcode for the Wi-Fi and the local for the 2 canoes and 2 kayaks available, and point us toward the lifejackets and oars. The house is beautifully remodeled and there seemed to be everything we needed there. The outdoor area was very nicely manicured with beautiful native plants around the property and plenty of seating space. The only downfall with the property is the proximity to a major road, so you can hear and see cars driving by from the backyard. There are restaurants and gas stations within a half mile of the house, but the major road doesn't have a sidewalk, so you pretty much have to drive everywhere you go, unless it's by boat (and one of the restaurants was on the river). We saw a couple manatee during our April visit, and the river wasn't as crowded as it gets in the summer. It's about a 10 minute paddle from the house down the canal to the actual river. The access to the canal from the house could be improved, as it seemed we had issues getting in/out of our boats every time. But all of these were small issues in what was an absolutely wonderful weekend! We'll be back.

This is a smaller home but you will be amazed how roomy, comfortable and completely relaxing this home is. We have had friends and family stay here and they have been pleasantly surprised by the comfort and charm of the home. It is close to restaurants, all the chain and lots of local ones. Plus all the shopping you will need.

The home is located in Weeki Wachee Gardens, it is close to everything but far enough away for relaxation. The yard is completely fenced in. You can canoe or kayak from the ramp in the back yard.
