Charming and Cozy, Walk to Forsyth Park in Downtown Savannah
Perched on the top floor of a storied early 18th-century Savannah townhouse, this two-bedroom, two-bath apartment offers vintage charm, peaceful porches, and a front-row seat to one of the city's most legendary sibling rivalries. This is the right side of the Dueling Sisters Inn, once the home of Mildred — the quieter, sterner of the two infamous twin sisters who gave this home its name, and its spirit.
The home was originally built by their father, a respected Savannah judge, who wanted to give his daughters matching townhouses so neither would feel favored. It didn’t work. Mildred, the elder by just a few minutes, took this upper flat as her sanctuary. She was proud, precise, and sharp-eyed, known for her perfect biscuits, pressed linens, and the way she could silence a room with a single glance over her teacup. Her sister Myrle, who lived next door, preferred late-night porch parties and scandal. Their love for each other was real — but so was the competition.
Today, this home still carries that quiet elegance. The apartment features two queen bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a bright living room, and a well-equipped kitchen perfect for cooking in or reheating leftovers from Savannah’s finest restaurants. There are two private porches — one in the front for people-watching over morning coffee, and one in the back for unwinding at sunset. The original hardwood floors, tall windows, and vintage touches throughout the space give it a timeless Southern feel, while modern comforts like central heat and air, smart TVs, and Wi-Fi make it easy to settle in.
Some guests say Mildred never really left. You might notice a breeze when there’s no open window, or a tea towel that moves overnight. One guest claimed to smell lavender and lemon cookies just before bed — and swears no one had baked a thing. Mildred was never one to cause a fuss, but she did like order. We recommend keeping things tidy… and maybe offering a polite goodnight before turning off the lights.
The space is lovingly cared for by Miss Stacy, our longtime housekeeper and resident keeper-of-the-peace. She’s been with the house for years and knows every creak and quirk. She also has her own stories about the sisters, but she’ll only share them if you ask nicely.
Located just two blocks from Forsyth Park, this apartment puts you in the heart of Savannah’s Historic District. You can walk to shaded squares, coffee shops, art galleries, cocktail bars, and some of the best food in the city. This neighborhood is one of the most beautiful and photographed in the country — filled with Spanish moss, gas lanterns, and stories waiting to be discovered.
This isn’t a modern build or a luxury condo. It’s older, full of charm, and beautifully imperfect. The floors may creak. A doorknob may rattle. But the space is clean, comfortable, and full of character — the kind of place that welcomes you in and makes you feel like you’ve stepped into something real.
If you’re looking for a stay with personality, history, and a porch to call your own, then welcome to Mildred’s side of the house. She’s been expecting you.
