Spirit Yurt is a serene off-grid rental in the high desert south of Santa Fe, NM

Spirit Yurt at Flying Trees is off-grid (Powered by the sun) & located 30 mins South of Santa Fe, New Mexico. From the deck of the Yurt, you will have unobstructed spectacular views of the Ortiz Mountains, Cerrio Pelon & the entire cosmos at night!
The Yurt is 30' in diameter., and has 700 sq.ft. of living area. It sits on a 45'x50' deck with two doors for easy acess and 7 windows for an abundance of light. Inside you will find oak hardwood floors, maple covered insulated walls, and 48-2"x6" spruce ceiling rafters that reach up to the clear ceiling dome...the kitchen is equipped with a full sized fridge, GE gas range and oven, sink, coffee maker, and electric teapot. The bathroom has a walk-in shower and sink with a Rinnai hot water-on-demand system, as well as an electric Biolet composting toilet. In the summer, we provide an evaporative cooler. In the winter there is a ventless propane heater.

After fifty years in the film industry as a cinematographer, I hung up my hat in 2018 and retired, but now I'm able to focus on my still photography. My passions and interests are varied: travel, music, food, reading, and studing the diverse cultures in New Mexico and the world. My wife Cee and I moved to NM because we were drawn by the dramatic landscape, big skies, and the open spaces. Our goal was to perserve the surrounding land as best we could-keeping our footprint smallish, and living off-grid. We love this land, we do what we can to save it. Cee and I lived in Spirit Yurt the first 14 years at Flying Trees. When we moved into the house that we built, we kept Spirit Yurt so others could experience this place that we call home.

We are blessed with beautiful sunrise and sunsets, magnificent night skies and wildlife. Guests will experience an abundance of hiking options in this dramatic landscape that surrounds Spirit Yurt. We are also minutes away from "The Turquoise Trail" (Hwy 14 South-Cerrillos and Madrid), 15 minutes from Madrid & just 30 mins from the Santa Fe Plaza.

Our property is located in the middle of 3200 park like acres of BLM conservation land ( Burnt Corn Special Management Area)... And it is soooo quite, except for the Coyotes howling at the night sky.
