* As a former seafaring and fishing village, Prerow can look back on a tradition as a seaside resort spanning over 125 years. Thatched-roof houses with “Darß doors,” framed by soothing greenery, still define a large part of the town’s character today. An approximately 5-kilometer-long and up to 80-meter-wide beach of fine, pebble-free sand awaits you just northeast of town in the sheltered Prerow Bay, where the sun shines well into the evening hours. The primeval-like Darß Forest, located in the immediate vicinity of the Baltic Sea, offers approximately 50 kilometers of hiking, biking, horseback riding, and carriage routes. If you cross this forest heading west, you’ll reach the West Beach—rugged and romantic, carved by wind and waves. Prerow itself offers small concerts, museums, and exhibitions, as well as doctors, supermarkets, a movie theater, playgrounds, and boat tours. It’s easy to explore neighboring towns like Zingst, Wieck, and Born by bike. By car, you can easily reach attractions such as the bird park, the strawberry farm, and the indoor swimming pool, or head to Stralsund or Rostock for shopping.
