The house housing the “Zur Kuhweide” vacation rental is located on the outskirts of the idyllic farming village of Dunum, in the immediate vicinity of the North Sea spa town of Esens-Bensersiel on the East Frisian coast of the North Sea, right next to the unique natural wonder that is the “Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park,” a “UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site” since 2009.

The “Zur Kuhweide” vacation rental, which was completely renovated in 2022, offers 2 to 4 guests excellent conditions for a peaceful and relaxing vacation on the North Sea coast in approximately 90 square meters of living space. Located on the upper floor of the house, the vacation apartment is cozily furnished, warmly decorated, and very well equipped. Here you’ll find wonderful conditions for a lovely vacation in East Frisia. In the large garden, for example, you can sit comfortably in the sun or—since this is East Frisia, after all—finally read a good book over a cup of tea, or simply enjoy the peace and quiet while taking in the view of the green meadows and pastures. Meanwhile, your children can explore the adjacent farm—which was once actively operated—and let off steam on the large farm grounds.

Dunum is a small farming village located away from the main roads. Nevertheless, you can reach the coast and the North Sea spa town of Bensersiel in about ten minutes by car. The hamlets and farms in Dunum are widely scattered across the area. We offer you an unforgettable vacation with games of “Boßel,” barbecue evenings, folk theater, horse-drawn carriage rides, and group biking and hiking tours.

Dunum also boasts excellent transportation connections to the many tourist destinations in East Frisia. It’s not far to the coast and thus to the tourist and spa facilities in places like the North Sea spa town of Bensersiel and the North Sea spa town of Neuharlingersiel, or even to the historic “Knight and Bear Town” of Esens. However, you don’t have to pay a visitor’s tax here. We’ll only offer you the “Nordsee-ServiceCard” (visitor’s card) if it’s worth it for you.

Around Dunum, you’ll find the authentic East Frisian hedgerow landscape, extensive wetlands with beautiful and fascinating flora and fauna, and a large forest teeming with wildlife. You’ll be amazed at how often, while cycling along the side roads and bike paths, you’ll be able to spot numerous wild animals in the meadows and fields at dusk.

According to an old legend, the tomb of the Frisian king Radbod lies beneath Dunum’s “Radbodsberg.” He was the only chieftain to unite all the Frisian tribes and secure a historic victory against the Norsemen. Our old 13th-century brick church is also a special sight to see.

The East Frisia Hiking Trail leads right past our farm through Dunum and, by bike, offers you the healthiest route to the North Sea—to the coastal and North Sea spas or to the dike. We’ve also prepared a biking and hiking map for you, the residents of Dunum. Our location is ideal for walks, bike rides, and all kinds of exploration trips into the unique and diverse natural landscape of East Frisia. Enjoy an active yet relaxing vacation on the North Sea and make the most of the North Sea’s invigorating climate.

On your way to the beach in nearby Bensersiel, you’ll pass through the historic town of Esens north of Dunum. There, children can enjoy the “Klabautermann” indoor play park, while adults have a wide range of dining, shopping, and leisure options to choose from.

The North Sea spa town of Bensersiel has plenty to offer for sports, recreation, and fun—for example, the harbor leading to the island of Langeoog, the beach, the beach portal with the covered play area “Bennis Abenteuerland,” swimming pools, tennis courts, surfing spots along the dike, fitness facilities, beach volleyball, fishing opportunities, and much more.

Speaking of swimming pools: While in Bensersiel, don’t miss a visit to the seawater outdoor pool with its giant slide and the “Nordseetherme Bensersiel” water park—a modern, heated fun and leisure pool for the whole family featuring a large indoor slide with a panoramic view. The therapy center (including all spa facilities) as well as a
