The Shell Cottage is really cute inside, with nice furnishings and kitchen appliances. It was very adequate for 2 nights. On the inland side of the main beach road, it's not far to walk approx 2 blocks to ocean access. It's convenient to downtown and to the awesome Sleepy Monk Coffee Shop. Very comfy bed, nice towels, hot shower. This cottage is close to Haystack Rock and very cute inside and out; we appreciated the economical option for staying with our dog. The cottage is quite small. We were glad to have a rare sunny, clear day in Winter. If it was raining ... it would've been hard. Parking is tricky if one guest doesn't think about the other guests; painted lines may help designate space. The cottage was pretty clean, except for the "used" toilet upon arrival. Also, there was no bedding for the futon, which we planned to use - we called and left 4 messages before someone came around 8 pm and brought sheets. There should've been a blanket for the futon too. The only heat source is a small blower in the bedroom and small gas fireplace in the main room; it was very cold when we arrived. No heat had been on. Heat was hard to regulate. Having a host on site would've made the difference in these issues/questions. Our digital guest book didn't work, and after repeated calls for bedding, it wasn't worth it to call to ask for something like a broom. An on site host would make a big difference. Once you arrive, you're sort of on your own.
