We arrived at this property at 8 p.m. on a Saturday and immediately noticed serious issues. Entire ceilings in the bathrooms, closets, and laundry room were covered in mold, with additional large patches (some larger than a basketball) in other areas of the home. Paint was peeling from the entire master toilet room, suggesting long-term water intrusion. A strong musty odor was present, and there was evidence of cockroach activity in the kitchen.I reported the problems right away through text, VRBO messaging, and phone, but did not receive a response until noon the following day when the office opened. During that time, my family began experiencing symptoms such as headaches and nausea, which we associated with the musty environment.When I finally reached the property manager, the explanation was that the house was old and located in a difficult climate, which came across as dismissive rather than apologetic. The alternative home offered was significantly inferior, lacking beachfront views and privacy, and was not comparable to what was advertised. Only after I declined this option did they eventually promise a refund.Basic hospitality was also lacking — the only toiletries provided were a collection of old hotel soaps, and there were no beach towels or shampoo.The property conditions created clear health and safety concerns, the response was slow and unhelpful, and the resolution did not reflect the standard of service or accommodation that was promised.
