Welcome to our Ernestine suite, named after Ernestine von Veyder. When the castle and the dominion of Malberg ran into serious economic dispair after the French revolution she decided to give up her title as a baroness and to marry the local Prussian Chief Forrester whose marriage led the castle into bourgeois ownership. She managed to economically stablize the estate with her husband's salary and various economic and famring activities.
The Space:
Our Ernestine suite is furnished in calming green tones, offering:
A relaxing living room, peaceful and elegant, with styling that complements the historic character of the castle.
A quiet bedroom for restful sleep, with views and natural light.
A modern bathroom, clean, with showers or tub as suited.
A compact kitchenette for preparing your meals at your leisure.
This apartment is ideal for guests who appreciate a blend of history, tranquillity, and comfort.
Guest Access:
The Suite is located on the upper floor of the Arcades or Cavalier's wing building and is accessed thru the central stairs of that building and is located as the first of the hall.
The Neighborhood:
Location: You’re in the small village of Malberg, in the Waldeifel / Kyllburger Waldeifel area, in Rheinland-Pfalz. The area is forested, rural, peaceful.
Nature & Walks: There are lovely walks around the castle itself, through the gardens (Runder Garten, Eiserner Garten), and along the Kyll river. Panorama hikes in the Kyll and Eifel region are very rewarding.
Culture & Sites:
• Schloss Malberg & Gardens are open for tours (usually Saturdays & sometimes Wednesdays in summers & vacations).
• Schlosskapelle is restored and used for concerts, weddings, exhibitions.
• Good places to eat, small local shops in nearby villages or in Kyllburg.
The castle grounds are open for visitors during the day. In the evening you have the place with two gardens for yourself. We have reserved a small secret garden terrace as an exclusive space outside fpr our guests.
The village of Malberg right below the castle is a little sleepy community with a small village grocery store.
You will find restaurants and the nearby town of Kyllburg, which in summer features a very nice open sky public swimming pool right in the forest.
The county capital Bitburg is about 20 minutes.
Trier, one of Germany's tourist magnets with UNESCO heritage Roman sights and the famous market, cathedral etc. is at about 35 mintues by car,
Luxemburg captial at 50 minutes and the French border to the Lorraine region about an hour.
Getting Around:
Transport & Access: It’s rural, so having a car helps. But things are reachable with short drives; you get the peace of countryside while still being connected.
Other Things to Note:
The castle is being used for cultural events or weddings occasionally and this may be a source of temporary noise. The grounds of the castle are limited by steep slopes that are not fenced off.
Interaction with Guests:
I don’t live in or very near the castle myself, but my staff and I are always available by phone should you have any questions or need assistance.
A neighbour in the village will also be on hand to help should any urgent matter occur.
Otherwise, I respect your privacy and freedom—arrive, relax, enjoy your stay at your own pace.
