The title did not clearly state that the mother in law unit around back was occupied. It only said that the MIL unit could be rented with the full house in June. We rented mid-May. It did NOT state "Shared Yard" like the other properties did. We were not told by the renter that the MIL unit was occupied at any point! There was apparently a couple renting the unit out back. We only rented the place because we wanted a safe, enclosed yard to let our young children play in, unsupervised, while we waited to close on our house. The couple out back also had a dog and we have 2 dogs. Our dogs would have gotten into a fight if we had not seen the couple leaving the 2nd day with their dog, which would have been a hazard for everyone involved. When we told the owner that we wanted our money back, he refused and offered to install gates on the front yard and back deck. While the front one did work, the front yard was incredibly small and not suitable for young children to play in like the back yard was. The gate he put on the back deck was useless and didn't even have a latch. Also, the gap underneath the fence my dog could've walked under without ducking. My kids could have pushed the gate open or crawled under it easily. The MIL Unit renters' dog could have crawled under it onto our back deck, as well. (Wait, there is MORE.) After the owner refused to let us have our money back and leave, we realized that there was the WORST ant infestion we have ever seen in the house. The owner was defensive and tried to tell us it was normal. We have rented many houses but NEVER have we seen an infestation so bad. If we say down to watch TV as a family, we would find ants on us.) When he had an exterminator come spray the outside, we found THOUSANDS of dead ants (and more live ones) in the downstairs bedroom. To make matters worse, the MIL renters woke us up at 11pm screaming and cursing at each other for 20 minutes. When we were trying to get back to sleep, we heard a knock at the door- the police asking where the screaming was coming from. All the screaming woke up our toddler. The owner made excuses for the couple out back. Once the summer prices went up on all the other houses, THEN the owner offered to let us go (because he wanted more money). By that point we were unable to financially afford this and were forced to turn him down. (VRBO had sent him a request to refund us in the very beginning of this mess, which he obviously ignored.) DO NOT RENT FROM HIM.
