ノースウッズで最高のウォールアイ湖の1つにある人里離れたコテージ。 設備の整った3ベッドルーム、1半風呂、背の高い松、カバノキ、広葉樹林に囲まれています。 砂浜の底は海岸から緩やかに傾斜しているため、水泳やウォータースポーツに最適です。 ポイントのすぐそばにあるドックまでの絵のような石の通路があります。 ドックには、壮大な北の夕焼けの夜景を眺められるビルトインベンチがあります。

コテージの正面には大きなオープンデッキがあり、荘厳なノルウェーとホワイトパインの美しい森林に覆われた海岸線と、バーチ、メープル、オークの広葉樹林のパノラマビューを眺めることができます。 1つのベッドルームにはキングサイズのベッドと隣接するフルバスがあり、もう1つのベッドルームには隣接するハーフバスがあるクイーンサイズのベッドがあり、3番目のベッドルームにはクイーン、フル、ツインベッドがあります。 また、コテージには、クイーンサイズのベッド用のソファがあり、寝るための大きなリビングルームがあります。

キッチンには電気コンロ、電子レンジ、食器洗い機、大型冷蔵庫があります。 ダイニングルームには6人掛けのテーブルがあり、リビングルームには大きな湖を眺める窓と、涼しい夏の夜や寒い冬の日のための暖炉があります。

野生生物は、周囲の森や湖にたくさんあります。 ルーンの不気味な鳴き声は、多くの場合、まだ夕方または早朝に聞こえます。母親のアヒルは、彼女のひなが後ろを追って海岸に沿ってぐるぐる回っています。 イーグルスは、頭上にそびえる湖で頻繁に見られます。

Relaxing and cozy lakefront retreat! Hosts are super helpful and had great communication. No problems on either check in or check out and property is better than described. The pictures just don't do it justice!

Absolutely loved this home! The cottage was homey, comfortable and well stocked. Location is secluded which we like. Very quiet and peaceful. Beautiful beach area with nice dock for our boat. Hope to come back next year. Thanks so much Mike!

Tranquil setting with the "quiet" sports!

Overall, we enjoyed the Shields property very much! It's quiet and you feel you are on you own private peninsula with 2 piers. Beach is awesome and is as advertised! I wish there was at least one kayak on the premise to use! Beds in basement could use an upgrade. Would book again!

Quiet retreat

Upon arrival, we found the property as described. The two docks were nice for fishing and swimming. The house was clean and overall well maintained. It looked as though they are in the process of updating some of the rooms. The bathrooms are dated but functional. The kitchen and main living room area is open concept with a large island making it well suited for entertaining. The deck offered great views of the lake and the sunset. The lake itself was fairly quiet for most of our stay and was easy to paddle by kayak or SUP. Wildlife was abound with sightings of deer, bobcat, coyote, ducks, cranes, and all kinds of aquatic animals either at or near the property. The property is a 12-15 minute drive from land o lakes, which offers some shopping, groceries, and a cafe. Other amenities and attractions can be found about 30-40 minutes drive in eagle river. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a secluded getaway outside the main tourist areas of eagle river or minocqua.

Shields Pine-Rest

We had a very relaxing week as the weather was perfect. Left our house with temps in the 90's and arrived up north to the low 70's. What a relief! Best part of the week was floating in the water, water skiing, and running the wave runner. The fire pit was perfect for late night smores. Firewood was provided at the cabin which is definitely a perk. Sitting on the deck in the late afternoon whether grilling out or just family time was perfect. Kids set up their hammocks and even spent a night sleeping out. New carpet was added within the two lower levels. Slept soundly every night after spending the day in the water. Kitchen was very functional. Went out for dinner at Bent's Camp, Bear Trap Inn, and Black Oak Inn. Had pizza from TJ Grizzlies on the deck with a beautiful lake setting. We would definitely go back again. Its amazing how quite it is there compared to the sounds you here back at your own residence. Thanks again Shields.

Quiet week at the lake

We really enjoyed our time on the lake this week. The layout of the house worked well for 4 adults and 3 kids. The pet gate on the deck was helpful, I think the dogs enjoyed the week as much as the rest of us. We were happy it wasn’t too hot since there’s no a/c, the fans kept the air circulating but it did feel a bit damp / humid at times. The point that the house is on is so great, quite secluded and nice views from the beach and docks. Perfect swimming area for the kids, with super clear water. We enjoyed the property and the area!

Land O Lakes Family Vacation

This was the perfect getaway for our family! Our group consisted of six adults, three children, and one dog. There was plenty of sleeping space and gates for our dog. The private sandy beach was wonderful. The lake was perfect for swimming and fishing. The kitchen had all utensils and appliances including a dishwasher. We have already booked for next summer. Thanks for a wonderful family vacation!

Middle of heaven

You always know when you are in the north woods when you have to use trees with signs on them, that look like arrows, with the home owners last name on them. After about 15min of driving the curvy roads surrounded by trees, and missing a couple of deer on them, we arrived at the house at the end of the private drive. We found our vacation home! We had 8 people stay, comfortably, in the north woods cabin. 2 docks got us on the water with one of them having a nice beachfront area about 50ft long. Nice sand in the water made swimming fun. Multiple phone calls from the owners making sure everything was as expected. A short drive to the Upper UP allowed us to view some beautiful water falls. We had a couple of great dinners at the local restaurant with most of the cooking being completed at the cabin. No need to go anywhere else when everything you needed was at the cabin. The basement was a little damp and the dehumidifiers were not able to keep up but no water was ever seen in the basement. Campfires every night with wood being delivered while we were at the cabin. We also rented a boat and where able to enjoy the beautiful clear lake. No true complaints except for the weather but we had fun doing board games and watching movies on those days. Thank you Shields for the relaxing week.

Beautiful beach!

We had an amazing stay - this property has a beautiful private beach, easy access to many atv trails and enough space to accommodate our fairly large group. The owner was very responsive when we had a question. I highly recommend for a quiet vacation with lots of activity options for all ages!

Nostalgic Northwoods Retreat!

What a great property! We loved our visit and the nostalgia of the Shield’s home and family history. It triggered so many of my own memories of my grandparents at their home on a lake - down to the “heritage” pattern Pfaltgraf dishware! All was as expected and the home was supplied with most items - although I recommend bringing an extra roll of TP or two if you have a larger group (we had 9). Beach was beautiful and clean. We rented a pontoon and spent our days leisurely doing cruises day and night. We also brought our fishing boat and launched at the public launch. The two docks were convenient and the teens and dogs loved swimming in the crystal clear water with sand bottom - no muck! There is a “boathouse” near the beach with some water floats / pool noodle type items. We saw eagles and deer around frequently. The teens put up their hammocks and tapped into the WiFi immediately - but at least they were outside enjoying nature! This was the relaxing week I needed!

Wonderful Time

This place had everything we were looking for. The private sandy beach was awesome as were the deck, fire pit, fishing pier, mature trees and picturesque sunrises and sunsets. The property owners were extremely accessible and truly wanted to make sure our needs were being met. The written history of the family, home and northern Wisconsin life was enjoyable to read. We will definitely return.

Perfect family vacation in a secluded cabin on beautiful lake

This property surpassed our expectations. We were in search of a private cabin on a lake where our dog could roam free and swim in the lake. The cabin and property was very clean, well kept and had all the amenities we would need for an up north getaway. Slept 7 people (4 adults, 3 kids) with plenty of room. We used 1 dock to fish from and the other to hang out at the sandy beach and swim in the unbelievably clear water. We grilled a lot and ate on the large deck. Walked down the the beautiful stone steps to watch the sunsets each evening. Enjoyed s’mores and laughs by the campfire at night and later we would take a midnight swim under the stars. We were lucky to be there during a meteor shower so we spent some late nights on the dock just staring at the shooting stars. And our dog (a big German Shepherd) had the time of his life splashing all day in the shallow water! Loved reading about the history of the family and the property. Owner was very quick to answer any questions. Best part was not one of us touched our phones or electronic devices all week except to take a picture. Perfect vacation in every way!

Perfect Family Getaway

Our cabin experience could not have been better! We had up to 9 people and one small dog with plenty of space for more. It was equipped with everything we could possibly need - kitchen or linens. While the cabin does not have an AC, there is plenty of air movement from the lake (temps were upper 80s and upper 90s all week and we were comfortable with fans and opening windows - lots of cross breeze!). Bill was so wonderful to work with - so prompt with all of our inquiries and so pleasant. The cabin is at the end of a back road, right on the lake (not great for fishing but we didn’t care), so it was very quiet and private. The private beach was perfect for swimming, floating, or laying in the sun. The second dock perfect for launching the fishing boat or kayaks. Most days the water was calm and peaceful. We played yard games in the back, grilled, and had a few camp fires. Would highly recommend! We WILL be returning!

Truly a lovely place

We couldn't have been happier with this very lovely home on the lake. The home is comfortable and clean. Kitchen fully stocked with every possible item one could need. Beds are comfortable. The property is huge! Lots of room to walk around. And a beautiful beach. Not the best fishing lake (not even a nibble), but still enjoyable to spend time out there. A wonderful deck where we a great deal of our time. Plenty to do in the area -we went hiking every day (20-60 minutes away depending on where we hiked). Ate home every meal except one. Dinner at TJ Grizzlies (pizza) was great. And we are from Chicago and know great pizza!

Beautiful Sunsets

We arrived on a rare 90 degree day in northern Wisconsin. As soon as we unloaded the car, we all ran down to the beach and jumped in the lake. The lake was refreshing with a perfect swimming area. The next morning, the lake was as smooth as glass, so we took our kayaks out and watched 3 loons dance around the lake. We really appreciated the seclusion and privacy of the property. You couldn't see any neighbors at all. Almost every night, we would line up the lawn chairs on the beach with our feet in the lake and watch the sunset. It was just so relaxing. We'd then make a campfire and talk about the days hike or kayak trip. The cabin was very comfortable and homey. It had everything needed to make our stay enjoyable. It really had that "Up North feeling". We also liked reading about the history of the cabin and it's owners. All in all, a great vacation spot. We will definitely be back!

Great Week Up North

This is a great place and good value. It is close to being a five star property. From our view and travels this is the single nicest lot on Big Portage Lake. It has a gentle slope, nice beach, and great views. We didn't use the dock as it was too small for our pontoon but we had no issues beaching our boat for the evening. Some thoughts: Place had Lots of Towels Bring your own Garbage Bags and TP and Paper Towel, limited supply of these items in house Lots of room/layout is good for large groups. One big room in entry way was nice There is only one bathroom with a bath/shower so that can be a bottleneck when getting going in the morning Kitchen furnished nicely for any type of cooking, includes a dishwasher which is nice Propane grill provided worked well and was in convenient location Lots of sleeping room, room in lower level must have 5 or 6 extra beds. Place is very clean & well kept, but dated décor We'd go back here again in a heartbeat, I could see this place getting a few projects done and it being a true 5 star destination! DK

Comfortable and Complete Cottage on an Outstanding Lake

We had concerns about bringing our 3 grandsons for a week, they are 10 and 8-year old twins, as they would be separated from most of their electronic and cable entertainment. Would they get bored quickly? They didn't - not at all! They spent nearly all their time outside. They were disappointed to leave a day early as one of us got sick. Additionally, they are enthusiastic about returning next year. The cottage was very clean and ready for our arrival. Several notes were left which made for a quick adjustment. It is well-equipped and comfortable without taking away from the cottage/cabin experience. There are plenty of windows and screens allowing for easy checking on children, observing the deer close up, or just enjoying the view. The cottage grounds are spacious and open enough for activities, e.g. catch, frisbee. The swing and picnic table are great alternatives to eating or sitting on the deck or dining area. The lake is clear and clean, well suited for any water activity. It is not over used in any category of water recreation. The beach is large enough for playing, wading in the water, or swimming. The separate dock area is great for fishing, swimming, and exploring.

A perfect vacation spot

Although the initial directions to the house may seem daunting it is actually very easy to find. This is more of a home than a rental and you feel like an invited guest or a member of the family when you walk in. By the end of our stay we felt like we had been coming to this spot for years. The house is fantastic. Well built with many creature comforts and recent upgrades. The location is stunning with water every where you look. The lake is one of the best in the area and suitable for any water sport. We sold a house in the area last year and this rental made us feel very at home again. We hope to return soon. We also brought two small dogs and they were in heaven. Finally, the sandy beach was a big hit with the children of our friends who came to lunch one day. I would imagine the house is fantastic on a cold snowy day as well!

Lakeside Cottage

The cottage had a beautiful view as advertised. Nice dock right at the Lakeside. This a peaceful setting that allows you to relax. The listing accurately reflected the property and the property was clean and well maintained.The photos don't do justice to the beauty of the setting and the photos understate the beautiful view from the property. The owner responded quickly to e-mails and was helpful during our stay. I would recommend this property to family or friends.

The Shields Family originally came from Eagle River. Our parents bought the cottage in 1968 and used it as a weekend 'get-a-way' while they were still working (Dad was City Engineer of Eagle River and Mom was a school teacher for Eagle River (now Northland Pines) School District. After they both retired, they sold their house in Eagle River and moved up to Big Portage Lake. Actually, the original cottage was more of a large cabin, and it burned down in the early 70's. They rebuilt the cottage to what it is today, except for the large addition or 'sitting room' (we call this the 'Lois Room' after Mom) at the entrance.

My brother and I live/work with our families in other states (Colorado and Ohio), and at present are not able to use the property as much as we'd like. Therefore, we decided to share some of the northwoods experience on Big Portage Lake that we've had over the years.

The name 'Shields Pine-Rest' is not only appropriate, but is also historic. Our father was from Chicago, and his mom and dad (our grandparents) bought a resort on Little St. Germain Lake and operated it during the summers. They called it 'Shields Pine-Rest', as there were huge white and norway pines scattered among the cabins. I believe now it is called the Pine Valley Resort, located just off of Shields Road, on the south shore of Little St. Germain Lake.
