Our extended family of 13, ranging in age from 1 to 80+, rate this as our best Cape May rental ever . .. and that includes our stay in The Abbey. The location is fantastic - one block to beach and one block to the heart of downtown. Restaurants, grocery and liquor stores, retail shops, bars and clubs, etc. are all a very short walk, so you can leave your cars (up to 5) parked in the driveway and permitted area and stroll to all locations. (And if a restaurant is a bit farther, you can take advantage of the Free Ride golf carts.
The layout of this home is unusual for a Victorian, but our family found it a welcome change. The first floor layout is wide open with two large living rooms set behind a wonderful front porch and a very state of the art kitchen - with two dishwashers, a wonderful island, a wine fridge, a modern and very large refrigerator, and every up to date appliance you can imagine. The landlords leave tons of open pantry shelves for food, which is astonishing, given the number of dishes, pots, serving ware, etc., they supply. (Another very nice aspect of this home is what they supply to their vacation renters - from paper towels to toilet paper to garbage bags, to all washing and cleaning supplies to kitchen wraps to spices, all you need to do is bring the food and drink of your choosing.) The dining room seated our whole group with ease.
In terms of sleeping arrangements, the first floor includes an en suite bath in a queen bedroom. The second floor includes a huge king room with an equally huge en suite bath, and the two other second floor queen bedrooms each have bathrooms en suite, and one has an interior room with a bunk bed while the other has an additional space with a trundle bed. The third floor, which has a large shared bath, includes a very large king bedroom and another room with 4 twin beds. That floor also includes a small kitchen.
The landlord was attentive before our stay and responsive during our stay with any questions. They truly take great pride in their property, which is spotless and freshly-painted. In fact, they were so attentive that they noticed the third floor twin bed room seemed a bit warm during the changeover. While we noticed that the first night, before we could even make them aware of that, they contacted us to say they were going to send a contractor over to add a window air conditioner for that room. The air conditioning in the entire house was excellent, and we had a very hot and humid week.
