After a brief visit to Dartmouth in early 1999 we instantly fell in love with the town and moved here just 9 months later! Situated on the River Dart the port of Dartmouth is one of the most captivating destinations in the South West of England. It is so Picturesque with it's wonderful architecture, historic quayside and narrow streets full of independent shops, art galleries, cafes and restaurants. There is so much to do for the whole family here including Sailing, fishing, crabbing and walking. Exploring the South West Coastal path is not to be missed with so many stunning views, rugged coves, an abundance of wildlife and the beautiful beaches of course! There are an incredible variety of trips to choose from whether you decide to head up river to Dittisham, Stoke Gabriel or Totnes, take a ride on the historic steam train or paddle steamer or visit the National Trust properties including Agatha Christies house at Greenaway and our favourite Coleton Fishacre near Kingswear. Many visitors find they never have to move their car for the entire stay! We love the fact that Dartmouth is a town for all seasons with its many vibrant festivals including the Music Festival in May, Royal Regatta in August , Food festival in October and Candlelit Dartmouth in December. With a Theatre, cinema , indoor swimming pool, sports centre and several spa hotels it really is an enjoyable place to spend time whatever the weather! If you do decide to explore a little further afield Exeter and Plymouth are interesting cities and Dartmoor is a wonderful contrast with impressive panoramic views of the South Hams and some magical spots to paddle and picnic further up the River Dart.
There is a visitor information folder in the apartment and we can also recommend so many other special places for you to explore with some cosy village pubs, great places to eat and endless walks in this outstanding area of natural beauty.
